I use the immersion blender for soups and smoothies. Quicker than a full blender. I forgot my George Foreman grill which also keeps me from having to heat up the whole kitchen and cooks things quickly as well.

My new refrigerator. It filters water, so it tastes so good, I've practically given up diet sodas. It's crisper keeps the vegetables so fresh, so much longer, that I eat more & waste less. Can you fall in love with a fridge?

My old microwave/convection oven quit, and I got a new one that also includes a broiler . . . and was cheaper than others I've had. I do almost all my cooking with this unit in the summers, to avoid adding more heat for my AC.

This doesn't qualify as a tool, but I chop up onions, celery & green peppers, to keep in refer. I use some in most dishes I make, including scrambled egg. It adds vegs, taste, bulk & lo cal. Love it.

Actually I love all kitchen gadgets, the most useful being the glass containers I keep handy for leftovers, which I store on one side of the refrigerator. But I also like cute shaped pots and pans. The most unusual I have is a pottery cooking pot with measurements on it. I can measure in it, cook the food and it has a cute top to place over it for storage. I make up my own recipes in that pot...different vegetables, maybe some broth, etc.

But I do love knives even though I end up cutting myself, even with quality sharp ones.

Pat.

Maroo - I use my immersion blender for creaming soups. It also came with a glass for smoothies. It's not heavy duty, but I didn't pay a lot for it either. Cool little gadget - I got it for the soup and haven't regretted it.

Forestpal - I've always wondered about cooking in stirfry pan/wok, but I don't have one.

Have to admit my favorite kitchen thing is my best Santoku knife and bamboo cutting board. I can chop vegetables all day! haha My kitchen is tiny so I really don't have any electrical appliances. I used to have one of those jars with a chopping blade that plunges. It wore out and I'd love to find another. They are great at mincing shallots, etc., into tiny bits for vinaigrettes.

I think I am a GADGET - COLLECTOR!

I have gotten so bad, it is trickling into my daughter's kitchen. They usually accept my gifts with a look that reads, Oh, no another gadget.

The newst gadget I bought was a Yonanas maker. www.shopatshowcasecanada.com/yonanas
.h
tml?source=GoogleCanada

You use frozen bananas to make a base for ice cream, then add any frozen fruits, to change the flavour.

I gave it my daughter as it makes too much for one person, though guess I could freeze what is left over. The whole family loves the Yonanas Machine, so at least that gadget is getting well used!
Last year I bought the T Fal Acti -Fry machine. This worked so well, I bought a second one for my daughter.

Low-Cal French Fries per 4 servings
1 tablespoon of cooking oil
1 3/4 pounds of baking potatoes - 181 Calories
Set machine for 30 minutes and wella yummy fries!

The T FaI Acti-Fry is a great gadget for many other main meal dishes, too!
Recipe booklet comes with the unit which includes 30 recipes.

I use 1/2 tablespoon of cooking oil and one medium baking potato chopped in a chip fashion for a single serving.

Because I'm suffering pain from after affects of a fractured disc, I took a cabanet door off my kitchen island so I can sit on a cabanet height wheeled office chair with my feet in the island to prepare food. I glued 2 wood chopping blocks together so I have a large work surface, and I hang a used plastic grocery bag in my knee space, so I can put peels etc right there. I also hung a pan rack above the island low enough to reach, & use it to hang utensils & gadgets.

Oh, oh. It's making me hungry to think about it!

I love my smoothie maker. My favorite pan in my cast iron Dutch Oven...I can simmer soups, spaghetti, etc., for hours and nothing burns. I have so many gadgets and use almost every one at various times. My favorite "gadget" is the one I use to fill deviled eggs so they look pretty. (Like a giant cake decorating tube).

An oven that sets on the counter top. Doesn't heat kitchen, browns nicely.

I think I would say my crockpot. Mine is programmable and switches to warm at the end of the program. This is incredibly handy with my busy schedule.

Teach me the glory of the cross I bear; teach me the value of my thorns. Show me that I have climbed closer to you along the path of pain. Show me that, through my tears, the colors of your rainbow look much more brilliant."

currently, my favorite is the magic bullet. I have a fruit/protein smoothie every morning and I love that I can just leave it in the same container I blended it in :-)

I've recently been looking at food processors then mandolins, something to slice and dice a little quicker and better than manually. I've also had to recently replace my sauce pans. It got me to wondering what appliances gadgets are the favorites of those singles and couples that cook.

Right now, mine is probably my small food chopper, as I use it to make oat flour from oats on an almost weekly basis.

What is your favorite kitchen appliance/gadget? Does it vary by season (i.e stoves and ovens can really heat up a kitchen in the summer so do you use something else)?
