Welcome to SparkPeople Nancy!! Go to the Start Page in the Articles Section (to start with) and look up articles on Ticks, Mammal Allergies etc. You can also do a search with SparkPeople on those same things. Check out the Community Section as well on the Start Page and go into the Teams/Chats etc where you might find someone else in the SparkProgram with the same allergies etc. There are also a lot of Nurses (some on staff) that might be able to help you with your son's allergies.

Good luck to you. Have fun and enjoy your Spark journey!!!

Hi there. I'm trying to keep what I cook to servings for two but it's hard when the other half is my son who still eats enough for two most of the time (he is 45). We will have "fridge" nights where we clean out the leftovers which is great since neither of us is into "mystery meat".

To complicate matters, my son has developed an allergy to mammal meat. I sounds crazy, but he did some research and it turns out that some people who get bitten by the Lone Star tick can develop the allergy. I still have some beef in the freezer and if we have it my son's desert is Benadryl.

Anyhow, I'm here to learn what I can.

Nancy

Welcome to SparkPeople Toni. I'm have Diabetes II. I have been with SparkPeople since the middle of May, 2013. Since being with Spark, I have lost a few sizes, approximately 22#, brought my cholesterol and triglycerides well back into the normal zone, and have been able to get off my Metformin. So, you see, I'm proof that it can be done!!! Not everybodoes body and/or makeup is the same so some may take longer than others to lose weight etc so don't let yourself get discouraged. I, however, have a very slow metabolism whereas my husband has a very fast metabolism. My advice to you would be to track your nutrition and fitness/exercise daily, drink your 8+ glasses of water, tea, coffee etc etc daily. It is very important that you get your 8 hours of sleep a night to help you lose weight - - yes, it does help you lose weight!! Be good to yourself - - if you should happen to have a "bad" day as we all do from time to time, forgive yourself - - that is very important!! Just get back up and get back on track - - keep on going!! Don't let yourself get discouraged; afterall, we are all human. We are here to hold each other up and yet be accountable as well. We are all here to encourage one another. By all means, don't be afraid to ask questions!! We will do our best to answer them etc etc. Look over the different "tabs" on the Spark page - - there are a lot of good reciies, exercise videos, chats/teams on various subject, challenges etc. There's a lot of good info in Spark.

Enjoy your Spark journey.

I know the feeling. My husband is skinny and I am overweight so it can be a pain. Thank goodness we have all the resources of spark people. It is easy to keep track of what I eat and not have to worry about his meal plan. I have found that some of the healthy recipes he likes and some not; he also does not like vegetables but I seem to be able to work around that with all the tools here.
He is proud that I am trying and of my joining a health club for exercise.
good luck

Hi, I am Toni Ann and very happy to have found this group. Have lost my desire to cook for just the two of us. Both of us are diabetics and planning is important so hope to get inspired emoticon and encouraged to change my ways.
