When I visited my sister earlier in March, I shared with her about DH and me eating from the freezer for 6 weeks. She shared that she could do so for six months....I think she should be doing that! emoticon

made a pasta sauce from pureed leftover sweet potatoes, cheese sauce and seasonings. I had seen a mac and cheese makeover on a tv show, which gave me the idea.

We're now well into March and I hope lots of us are still shopping in our fridges, freezers, pantries and cupboards.
My bff was looking for oatmeal for breakfast this morning and complimented me on the much tidier pantry. I have used up so much that it is no longer crammed.
I had ham and an English muffin from the freezer, along with a fresh egg for my lunch this aft.
Partial bags of pumpkin seeds, nuts, crackers, and chips have been finished off in the last few days. It's great to see empty space appearing in my kitchen!

After the entire month of Feb.... I will finally have to go to the grocery for the first time. But, only for fresh produce. I'm going to continue this challenge throughout March to use up the rest of what I have in the freezer and pantry.

no "cooking" involved but I have been eating up the many containers of yoghurt lurking in the fridge. I once talked to a home economist who said that the best before dates on yoghurt are almost meaningless, as long as it has been sealed the whole time. My mom used to say that in the old days, there were no best before dates --- you just had to use some common sense and your eyes and nose!

Last night: end of bag of frozen green beans, end of bag of fresh mushrooms, some frozen chicken, stir fried up with a dab from a jar of General Tsao stir fry sauce that was discovered during the recent pantry excavation, served over microwaved Trader Joe's Brown Rice form the back of the freezer. Oh, the very tail end of a bag of peas and carrots got served up, too - LOL. Sounds a lot like LynetteMom's supper. With Margot's forgotten mushrooms.

I cut up the left over pork roast, put it in gravy and DH and I had it over rice last night. It was fine. I had meant to add mushrooms to it though and forgot.

Lunch: can of tuna from the pantry, made into a tuna salad including "older" organic celery (!) in a whole wheat flatout wrap (fresh) - served with an old (but not expired) can of Progresso Manhattan Clam Chowder.

A good solid breakfast, a nice lunch and a healthy evening meal, each and every day, is my goal and plan. I did well today and my stock is declining. I have not purchased any food since I started this challenge but I have had the benefit of food brought by a guest and a few meals out. Bit by bit, I intend to use up what I have. emoticon

Ohhh today should be a good one. Will try to fix something light for lunch but when I get hungry, look out I am not a nice person when I get real hungry and although I had my one piece of toast this morning I am getting hungry. Will cook up some meatloaf this eve.because I use the left over sausage mixed with left over hamburger plus other goodies to make it special.
Hubby has been in a bad mood for a couple of days now so I just leave him alone and try to cook something good for us.Sunday's are special days for me,love to just kick back and enjoy the day and hope everyone else does too.

After cleaning out the pantry, I have now put a dent in the freezer, and have mostly new food in the refigerator - still have a long way to go, especially with the freezer section, but am making progress! Feeling good about what I have accomplished thus far - but the work in this area has been long overdue, so I am still a ways away from where I want to be in the kitchen.

This would be a challenge for me, I just keep buying more stuff and not using what I have (not being very frugal). However I am working alot now as a tax accountant and always looking for quick and not complicated meal ideas (DH has also been helping out alot too).

I found that a package of frozen mixed veggies which I delayed using [got one with okra by mistake] was actually one that I like a lot! I got my large freezer cleaned out and almost all of the small unit that is part of my side by side unit. It really helped to plan ahead a couple of days at a time to make sure I was using items that I already had.

I must have 4 months worth of food stock piled in my pantry and freezers (yeah, plural). I grew up very poor with a perpetually empty fridge, so I have gone to the other extreme and always have way too much food. If anyone needs to take on this challenge, its me. And I don't even have leftovers, because I have an 85lb dog who takes care of those!!!

This is a great challenge! I have done that a couple of times this fall/winter...but I just almost have my big freezer cleaned out and will be restocking....perhaps you will do this in the future as well.

My name is Tammy and I live in SW Missouri.

This is a response to an exchange on another thread. I intend to not buy any groceries for the rest of this month, just use up what is in my fridge, freezer and cupboards. I hope others will join me and let's see how creative and economical we can be!
