steel cut oatmeal, Did not try it, because it too long to cook. I found if I put it in water and let it set overnight in the frig. It would cook as fast as instant in the morning.

hard to say sometimes, I have always been a veggie/fruit nut. I tried grilled apricots the other night along with grilled eggplant and red peppers and they were awesome. I always enjoy a tbs of my neighbors honey in my greek yogurt, and a tbs of dill relish in my cottage cheese. I have switched to a multigrain pasta (hard call for an Italian lol) and like it just as much as the white pasta.

Glad to see so many quinoa lovers! It's great stuff!

Right now- guess because it's spring eating Mixed Fruit Smoothie .
Just Frozen Fruit and Orange Juice. Just have to watch the size of the smoothie easy to take in too many calories.

I love brown rice and never purchase any white rice any more. Guacamole and hummus is my next best choice instead of mayo or butter! I make my own sweet red pepper hummus that is out of this world. I don't buy any hummus either.

Couscous is my favorite whole grain. It cooks fast and is so versatile. You can stir it into sup, use it as a base to top with veggies, or even add some fruit and honey to it to have it for breakfast.

Love fresh fruit too, but I always did.

great thread which has given me some ideas to try.
My fave is banana "ice cream". Pure frozen banana, no need for the special appliance, I just freeze chunks and blend it with my Bamix hand mixer, right in the container. Variations with peanut butter or various berries added are also delish but you can't beat the ease of pure banana!

I reread my post of a week ago and I must say that I can't believe I wrote that!! I do love tacos but don't have them very often.They don't have to be hi fat as long as a person doesn't deep fry them.I heat up the tortillas in the microwave,add some cooked mexican rice and beans and maybe some small amount of hamburger that is one of my favorite meals.So simple but very tasty and lo fat.I do use lots of garlic and onions for flavor.Today I went to a sushi restaurant for lunch and of course I ate to much but it was so good.

Quinoa Grain. I can eat it as you would rice, in Black Bean and Quinoa Burgers, I make a chicken salad with it. An this week I will be having a Warm Bean Salad that has Quinoa, beans and fresh spinach and some other veggies in it. I'm thinking this will be my lunch for a couple of days this week.

vegetables that is what I love.Last night we had dinner with our friends and she cooked lots of different vege's and I really enjoyed that even though I did have a small piece of meat also.She said she could become a vegetarian but my Hubby has seen some people's hair fall out because they weren't getting their meat protein,I don't think it is the meat that is causing the problem but vegetarians do need to pay close attention to their protein needs it is extremely important.We eat a balanced meal with a variety of vege's and some meat and we do just fine.Think most people eat like we do although we try to stick to two meals a day not three,that is just to much food for us.We both like sweets and eat way to much of it.He is pretty close to his weight target but I still have a long ways to go.My favorite healthy food is tacos and chocolate but I try not to eat much chocolate but do love my tacos and most mexican food.

My new favorite food is yellow squash, carrots, and broccoli cut in chunks cooked in the microwave and tossed with Dreamfields spaghetti with 1 Tbsp. olive oil and 1 Tbsp. Parmesan and Romano Cheese. I ususally avoid pasta, but now with Spark People I know I can eat pasta in other ways besides with manaria.

This is kind of funny because I don't normally eat hot-dogs. I think the whole concept is disgusting, but I will have one over a campfire every summer. My kids, however, love them. I decided to try Johnsonville Turkey Cheddar Sausages, and the kids loved them. I actually enjoyed one too, and I've been craving them. The sodium is still high, but it is a good solution instead of a regular hot dog.

I love anything with spinach or asparagus.

I also love making an egg sandwich on those bread thins. I scramble an egg with peppers and onions. smear a half a wedge of herb and garlic laughing cow on a toasted bread thin and toss my eggs on top. DELISH!

Last night I made "spinach Jimmy"one of my own recipes.Have to admit I got the idea from a Restaurant up in Washington State but modified it enough where I can call it "my own".I use about 1lb.country style pork sausage,1/2 cup chopped onion,2 eggs,about two to three cups of frozen spinach or one large fresh bunch,lots of garlic either minced or fresh,1/2cup frozen or fresh corn,and I am sure there are other ingred.but can't think of them at the moment.Cook the sausage drain the meat,then in the same pan add some margarine or spread and cook the onions just slightly,add the spinach and cook for about one or two min.or just until wilted,add all the other ingred.make sure the eggs are cooked.I usually just break them up when I add them,this is actually a one pan meal and I also add about 1/2 cup of sour cream at the end after I turn off the stove,mix it in and I serve it with mashed potatoes .Excellent dish but I don't know the calorie count.We love spinach and add it to many types of dishes.

Spinach. I use it in salads, of course, and as a side for dinner, but I've discovered I really like it with hot breakfasts. I serve it wilted with my eggs and in breakfast sandwiches when I make them. Haven't got so far along as to make green smoothies yet, with or without spinach : )

This may sound silly but at last I have started to eat whole wheat bread and now I am used to it and have trouble eating any white bread,hubby eats rye bread but I read some labels and it is made with reg.white flour and that I am trying to stay away from.

My all time favorite food is Tomato. I have rediscovered my love of grapes and granny smith apples.
I also love potatoes, and after reading the article on potatoes, the way I make them is the healthy way to make them (roasted with a little evoo).

There are one or two which were my favorites before coming back to Spark People.. Namely French style green beans and slivered almonds. I checked the calorie count on the recipe and found that I could eat a lot more than I thought.

And baked potatoes were something I thought I would have to give up. Not if I stick to a smaller portion .

I like most vegetables in general and love combining some to see what flavors come out.

Lasagna -- NOT a diet. I jazzed up a frozen lasagna, adding more meat sauce, cheese bechamel, & frozen spinach ( & seasons). Big mistake. I'd been able to limit foods until hungry, This time I just wanted to keep eating.My dog even ate all the spinach in her portion. I'll have a serving tomorrow, & freeze the rest.

Thank you so much for the recipe!!! I'm eating quite a bit of different salads and home made soups. This sounds like it will be scrumptious!!! I know you said that it will serve one person for a whole week, but do the ingredients get mushy at all, being in the refrigerator all week? Can I just make a single serving without having to make a big batch?

Red Bell Pepper. While I've always liked it, I've started using it a lot more.

Also, shallots. It's amazing how much flavor just adding a little bit of shallots to a meal can make.

I do love the fresh berries of summer especially boysenberries they are my favorite.Tonight I fixed a one pan meal for Hubby and myself and we really liked it,we are both trying to lose weight and he is doing better than me but I love to cook and of course eat so my weight is not coming down as fast.I also like cottage cheese with pineapple in it.Safeway carries a good brand of it.Now that we are city folks shopping for food is a lot easier so we have to be careful not to over shop and fill up our big refrigertor with all kinds of food! emoticon

My favorite food of the moment is homemade protein shakes. I have both vanilla and chocolate almond milk. I vary the fruits used. Favs right now are chocolate banana or pineapple mango.

Sounds yummy! Mine's turkey ham in the crock pot with sweet potatoes (just happened to be tonight's supper!)
cut sweet potatos (I use 4) into bits, spread a quarter cup of brown sugar on the bottom, add ham, top with a quarter cup of brown sugar,
add about a half - 1 cup of water (depending how thick you want your sauce!

Turn on low for 8 hours, or on high for 4. :)

Big batch salad ~ Mix together in a large tightly covered container the following. Making sure everything is very dry.

8-10oz bag Romaine chopped
8-10oz bag spinach
1/4 to 1/2 head of red cabbage
2 cups grated carrots
1 red bell pepper chopped
1 pint grape/cherry tomatoes whole
1/4 to 1/2 cup Sunflower seeds

To serve grab a handful and place in salad bowl ~ add cucumber,onion and any other items to the salad and your choice of dressing. This salad will make 5/6 servings and will last all week for one person. Enjoy!!.

Good Morning All, Today I think my favorite food is Jello with fruit added.Last night I was good and had one artichoke w/1 table.light mayo and a small tossed green salad w/light champagne dressing! This morning He wants a waffle soooo to keep Him happy will oblige!!I will probably have one also.so really can't complain about him!!I'll make a pot roast for dinner and that will be my indulgence at least for today.Ahhh but life is so good.......

I would have never guessed that tofu would be my favorite healthy food. My best friend became vegan and introduced it to me and I've liked using it ever since. My favorite is a chili-garlic tofu stir fry over rice noodles. Yumm!

My favorite is a good salad. Variety of greens, some chopped tomato, a super little bit of cheese for flavor, some onions, a little bit of avocado, jullienned red or yellow bell pepper, maybe some mushrooms, maybe some cubed baked tofu (w salt/pepper) or an oz or two of fish (tuna, salmon, swai, tilapia, monk, or whatever is on hand). Dressed with honey mustard (teaspoon dijon mixed with about a teaspoon honey) or balsamic vinegar and a bit of olive oil. Happiness on a plate.

emoticon I haven't learn to cook with it as yet, bu It worked as a nanny for a korean family and the little one like it as it is, into little squares and some pepper, I do know it takes on any flavor, it is a good source of protien, you can mix it in your moring eggs and veg mix, tuna whatever,
