First real home-cooked meal in weeks! (I do eat very healthy prepared foods.....)

Baked salmon with mustard glaze
Roasted veggies with olive oil & seasonings (onion, zucchini, green pepper)

1/2 fresh papaya for dessert (w/ lemon...don't have a lime......)

To save THIS batch of stew, refrigerate it until it's totally cold. The fat should rise to the surface and congeal, and you can then spoon it off. Serve your stew tomorrow night!

In the future, bite the financial bullet and pitch the can of Crisco. It's laden with unhealthy fat. Instead, use olive oil. Mix with butter or canola oil if you want the oil to get hotter without smoking.

Now, about browning the beef. Rinse it and DRY it in an old towel. Add some flour, salt or salt substitute, and pepper to a plastic bag. Throw in your beef chunks, and shake to coat them. (If you want to track the amount of flour, don't count the entire bagful--just what ends up going into the stew!) Save the seasoned flour in the bag to use to thicken up your stew when it's done simmering.

Heat 1-2 Tbsp of oil/butter (okay, or Crisco!) in your pan until it shimmers. Add the beef chunks and let them saute briskly until browned on all sides. That amount of oil should be sufficient to brown up 1-1.25 lbs of beef chunks, and it should not change the flavor of your stew.

To give your stew a nice, rich, dark brown color, buy a little jar of Kitchen Bouquet and add a few Tbsps at the end of cooking. This also enriches the flavor. To thicken the broth, use that leftover seasoned flour: mix a few Tbsps at a time into and 1/4 cup of water, and stir into your stew pot. Repeat until the stew thickens to the desired consistency.

made a beef stew but I messed up and I am praying someone can help me Let me tell what I did, okay? I browned my meat in Crisco oil with all my seasonings Later I added my can of beef broth and pearl onions and baby carrots I then added diced potatos and another can of beef broth and later added a bag of frozen squash

My problem is that the "broth" seems to now be a crisco taste what should I do, that isn't going to be good to eat HELP

Just had a late lunch/early dinner - unexpectedly delicious!!
Want to share.....

1 'heavy' cup cooked whole wheat pasta (about 1 1/4 cup)
1/2 cup farmer cheese
3/4 cup cooked chopped spinach

1 tsp. olive oil
Salt & pepper
dash oregano
dash garlic powder

Mix all together -- being sure to mix in the oil & seasonings...let sit for 5 minutes...
and enjoy...!!

Loved it! (got my whole grain, dairy & veggie in one filling dish)
