I hope no one minds if I jump in here with my 2 cents regarding SG.. SG is not the kind of thing you just "join", unless you mean joining as in subscribing to their site.
I have been through the process with SG and this is how it works:
You have to submit several photos of yourself. If they accept them, you then have to submit a professionally taken photo set (at your own expense) consisting of several photos in various stages of undress. With this, they ask that you include a signed model release form, proof of age, and a signed agreement form giving SG exclusive rights to your photoset.
Even if you do all of this, SG can decline to publish your photos on their page, yet they retain all rights to the photos anyway.
This means they can sue you if you try to publicly post or publish them anywhere else without the SG watermark attached.
Generally, if SG does accept your photoset, they will pay you around $250 for it and all others after that you submit. In return, you are not allowed to model for anyone else without their permission or they will "retire" your SG profile.
To be honest, it's a total rip-off.
$250 for a whole photoset is a pittance. Any real photographer will pay you $250 A ROLL plus travel time and expense.
You're better off paying a professional photographer to take high quality portfolio shots of you and then setting yourself up on Model Mayhem or seeking out an alternative models agent.
