I'm discouraged that the scale isn't moving for me. People have commented that I look like I'm losing weight but I'm not. maybe I'm just firming up? I really need to portion control the grains that I do eat. Rice, quinoa, rice pasta. I'm going to limit them to 1/2 cup portion and only 3 times a week.

I feel really good since going GF. Almost 3 months in and I have been sick to my stomach, I have more energy and not freezing all the time. Weird. In the past I was always cold. Now I seem to handle the weather better. Still not happy that it's the first day of spring and only 15 degrees out. But I'll deal with it.

How is everyone else doing?

Just checking in to say hi. I had hoped to be down several lbs this month but it seems a challenge to keep up and do what I need to do. I have a challenge going on with my dd and I was doing good until this weekend. What I had lost I gained back. Sure hard to get it off and so easy to put it back on.

Anxious for the warm weather to come. We are to have 85 in a few days and it will be so nice, but it will only last a day before it is back in the 60's. Now long though and we should be getting a lot of nice warm days. I am already counting the days until we can open the pool.

I had my DD and her 2 little ones here this past weekend. I love having them here but when they leave I am so tired and it takes me several days to catch back up.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Donna

Not familiar with Organic Ville, but am with most of the rest. Most of them make processed foods which I am weeding out, too. I like Larabars because they are mostly raw. They are high in fat because of the nuts. Nature's Path makes some great gluten free cereals. I have been purchasing Nutiva brand foods for a long time. I don't think I have purchased anything Earthbound or Earth Balance. I get Dr Mercola's newsletters. He has lot of good nutritional info. There are so many companies out there! Surely, we can find something to use as well as going more raw with organic freggies. Have a good night, All! emoticon

I am slowly getting away from all grains. So many of them are GMO and it has been discovered that many carry mold spores. I am learning to use more buckwheat (not a grain), almond and coconut flour. I bought some quinoa to replace some rice in recipes. It is so hard to actually eat healthy with so many toxins and modified food. My plan is: I do what I can do and trust God to do the rest. I recently made a brown bread loaf with buckwheat, almond, and tapioca flour and was pleased with the flavor and texture. Sometimes my experimenting ends up as gluten free crumbs for meatballs and meatloaf! emoticon I do like Bob's Red Mill GF for quick baking. emoticon I think King Arthur's GF pizza crust is very good, also.

Hi, I am new here and new to gluten free! I recently did a challenge that led to me realizing that I had issues with gluten/wheat. I am looking for things I can subsitute in. Do any of you use gluten free breads and mixes...thoughts on it and recommendations?

Had those when I was growing up and get them when I get into wheat. So I just stay away from wheat as much as I can.

Just did a new"brown bread" recipe today. It turned out dark because I used buckwheat in it. I can actually slice it and it has no grains in it! I think it may be a keeper.

Dermatitis Herpetiformis is HD. Is is the horrible rash that one can get if they have Celiac. If you have HD you have CD, but not necessarily vice versa My allergist tested a rash of mine in 1977 and told me I had HD and told me to avoid wheat. I got a lot better and went back to eating wheat as it was hard to avoid. I battled with the rash all my life and only when I found out I had celiac and avoided gluten did I truly get better. I am glad you are doing better eating GF.

Donna - I'm not sure what HD is.

At first hubby & I decided to try a gf diet to see if it would help with his liver enzymes and general health. For me it was general health, achiness etc. Last Sunday, after being gf for 2 months, I had regular pasta. I paid for it dearly! It made me sicker than I've felt in a long, long time. I'm calling it a "gluten sensitivity" now.

Ellie, are you Celiac or just doing a gluten free diet? Just wondering as I have CD. I was diagnosed about 11 years ago, but should have been told I had CD in 1977. At that time I was told I had HD and if you have HD you have CD.

I have 2 of the Udi's pizza crusts in my freezer. I haven't had pizza in forever! Making it this weekend. Is there a secret to using the Udi's buns? The hot dog buns I bought seem on the stiff side. Should I toast them or steam a bit? I'd hate for them to fall apart.

Barb, I have made the king Arthur pizza crust too and it seems like it was a repeat.

I am finally back home after being gone over 3 weeks. Got my sister all moved from TN to the New Orleans area. I know she will be much happier to be near her kids. I sure enjoyed the warmer weather down there. Back to the cold 26 high for today.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Just yesterday, I made a King Arthur gluten free pizza crust and it was quite good! I topped it with pizza sauce, Italian cheese and some sausage. DH took some in his bucket today.

I am so hit and miss on this team, but wanted to let you know what is going on the next several weeks. I have copied this from another team I help lead.

Should be sleeping, but I am wide awake so thought I would take care of some Sparking. This will be my last post until mid Feb. About the 20th. I have been working and helping my sister who is getting ready to move from TN to New Orleans area. Trying also to get several meals in the freezer for my husband to have while I am away. I am headed to OK with DH for a few days to have a belated Christmas and then I will be flying to Nashville to be with my sister. She is unable to drive more than an hour, so I am basically driving her to her new home. I will stay and help her get settled. I am so glad to see her finally get to move and be closer to her kids. I am sending back my laptop with my DH so I won't have access to a computer. My sister doesn't own a computer let alone be on the internet. I hope I can come back with fewer lbs.

Until I get back

Barb I have the same problem with getting infections that will put me in the hospital if the doctors don't listen to me because with me they have to hit the stuff hard or I end up in the hospital and I don't like being there and I have allot of allergies to antiboitics too. Which makes it hard to treat the infection and if they keep me on a low dose and for a long time my body will rebel against it the next time.

DJ, Lupus is an awful thing to deal with. And yes, drugs do a number on the body! What we fail to realize is that the drugs are chemicals that are foreign to our God made bodies and they all mess with the liver because it has to get rid of those "toxins." I need to make a correction about taking drugs. On occasion, we do need something with infection -- I have weak lungs and from time to time the natural remedies don't work fast enough to ward off pneumonia, so, I have to do antibiotic. I don't think I had that problem last year. I have discovered that if I take care of a sneaky sore throat and get rid of it, it rarely develops into anything else.

I hope this winter we all get through it w/o being sick!

Have a great day!

I wish that I knew about natural remedies before I got on all the drugs that almost messed me up. I am still on some of them but am working to get off all the drugs that the doctors gave me for when I had a bad lupus flare.

We don't do any drugs. DH and I have used noni, black cherry juice, magnesium and some other things. I have not tried the tart cherry, though. I am planning to get some to see if it helps Hubby's neck and shoulder and my knees. I am taking collatrim and a very good cal/mag supplement to rebuild the cartilage in my knees. We have used herbal remedies for years and I was so interested in helping family and friends I became certified in natural health care. Our ND wants us off all grains. She is wanting us to use buckwheat more than anything else. I even bought some buckwheat flakes for DH.

Maybe I can check back in after I try it.

Have a great day! emoticon

Try the tart cherry and you will find that it does work on the arthritis pain. I take it too but not in pill form. I take the concentrated form. It helps my wrists, knee and ankle too. Just because it is natural does not mean it does not work. That is how the pharmacy industry gets their products but they tweek them to make them not work very well in our bodies and to cause more problems too. Just look at the warning labels for the meds that the doctors give you. That should tell you that something is wrong with the pills that they give us. I had been on celebrex but ended up with headaches all the time and when I forgot to bring them on a trip - no headaches but when I got home I took them and the headaches came back and then I stopped taking them all together. I just use natural herbs and supplements for my arthritis.

When checking my emails this AM, I saw this newsletter from Dr Ben Kim. He is a naturopathic doctor from Canada. I enjoyed this article so much, I wanted to share it with this team because so many of us are dealing with chronic pain or disease. It is well worth the reading.

Still cold here. Suppose to be in the single digits this week.

Hubby and I have decided to look into the anti-arthritis diet with the other we are doing. Because of injury to his neck, shoulder, and ribs, he is having some arthritic pain in those areas. I want to do it to see if it helps the knee pain. (Falling really messes one up!) I talked to my younger brother New Year's Eve and he said he has started taking tart cherry supplements and his pain has subsided much. He had his back fractured in high school (about 30 years ago) and is now arthritic. I was glad to hear he found something that works for him.

Have a great week Everybody!

Brrrrr I don't know about where you live, but we have had lots and lots of cold days. Today high was 24. All I want to do is curl up on the couch with a blanket and stay warm, but that doesn't burn any calories. I gain a lot back since I quit tracking about Thanksgiving. What I shouldn't have done was stop weighing, When the scales get to a certain point I panic and do something about it. With that said I am back on track and on Day 2.

Hope everyone has a wonderful 2013 and loses lots of weight. emoticon

Stay warm,
Donna
