I'm late to post, and have been quiet around here, but I also had gluten free holidays. It helps that I hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas. I did scrape the crust off the pumpkin pie my mother-in-law brought over, and just ate the custard - but I think it's fairly safe, I'm just intolerant, not allergic.
Wow!! last I ate German food was about 4 years ago!! they love food as much as I do!! hehe A pity though that they didn't do the g/f stuff, as normally they are very good at cooking without the "Added extras".
We went to Fort Worth for New Years Eve. Special meal at the Edelweiss, fantastic German restaurant and a magnificent evening at the Symphony complete with Auld Lang Sybe and balloons dropping. I planned in advance that I was going to eat what I wanted since a great German restaurant is hard to find in our neckof the state. I had potato pancakes as an appetizer. A glass of white wine. for my main dish I did not want plain old steak and everything was either heavy on the cream sauces or pork which I can't eat so I chose the Chopped Beef with onions and mushrooms. Well it wasn't a patty, it was more like a mini meat loaf and the sauce was out of this worls. It came with German fried potatoes, sauerkraut and red cabbage. So it was not gluten free but I really didn't have too bad a reaction and it was worth it. I don't plan on making it a habit and back on track yesterday and today.
Grammy Pat So what are you waiting for? What do you have to lose. Your insecurities they try to alter you. But you know you're made for more- so don't be afraid to move. Your faith is all it takes and you can walk on the water to.
Hey Clov3r, I know I have to do it for my own good. I did have a gluten free day yesterday.. New Years Day. I am proud of myself for that. I promise I am going to work really hard at it. I also was able to chalk one up on the goal chart for the team.. no gluten.. That stuff will kill you! However I am very proud of you. Great job. Happy New Year Annette
Actually my whole family had a gluten-free Christmas. I was doing the cooking so we stayed gluten-free. We plan to do that New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. I will stay gluten-free every day. It is not worth it for me to go off. I don't feel well when I do. GOD BLESS! Louise
I stayed GF and dairy free for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Since I've been dealing with this for nearly 20 years it's not a big deal anymore. I had reasonable substitutes and my own little treats. I ate a second helping of turkey, sweet potatoes and broccoli for dessert at my inlaws on Christmas. They kept asking me if I wanted some pie but I knew it wouldn't be worth it. What I had on my plate was delicious and it was a *treat* because I was getting seconds!
(and wine helps every holiday go better )
Kudos to all of you for staying on the healthier path! It's not always easy but YOU ARE ALL WORTH IT!!!
Stayed gluten free for Christmas, I was not gluten free for Thanksgiving and paid for it too. Was at a party the day before Christmas and they had food there and I had to asked if there was any wheat it them. Some you can tell and others was a little harder cause I have noticed that most people don't know that all types of products that are made with flour is wheat.
If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in
Gluten free holiday here! It was horribly hard seeing all of my favorites being served and just having to watch everyone else eat them. It made me a little evil to be honest, sort of snippy with relatives... a glass of wine helped. But I did it and I hope the next holiday is a little easier.
Well everyone, how did we do? I admit, I am guilty. I had to have a piece of my homemade stuffing.. but it wasn't large and that's all i had. For some reason, I had way too much food to serve again, and no one was really hungry including me. But I wish I could say it was completely gluten free but it wasn't... almost, but not quite. Write back and tell share how you did. Have a wonderful day. Annette
