Hello and thank you for sharing your story. I'm vegetarian, I eat mostly vegan food (but i'm aware there's more to being vegan than that) I have had many food problems including avoiding food altogether and more recently binge eating. I went wheat free a while ago but when i started a new job this year I ended up eating cheese sandwiches because it was the only veggie food available. I ended up feeling totally out of control and binging on wheat/dairy foods. I don't even like cheese or milk! It only dawned on me recently that it was the intolerance thing causing the cravings so I've cut out dairy completly and the only wheat has been a few breadcrumbs on a burger. Not perfect I know but i'm only a couple of days into it.
stick with what your doing if it's working for you, and congratulations on your weight loss emoticon

Hello SP.

I myself wonder if there is some connection between gluten and binge eating that really needs serious study. Perhaps souls such as myself, would not have to be labelled 'weak willed'. I have long felt that my cravings were so intense that there had to be something apart from just my emotions that were fueling them.

I believe ( and this is day 11 for me ) that I have found the key.

Thanks for taking the time to read my story and comment upon it.

Interesting, I know I have found a connection between eating gluten and what I thought was lack of will-power... If I get a little bit of gluten, it makes me want to eat more and more, especially gluten-containing foods but if I stay clean, I can control my eating a lot easier. Its almost the same way that an alcoholic can avoid alcohol and be okay but can't ever drink just one emoticon which makes me wonder if there isn't some strange undiscovered chemical reactions that happen in some of us more than others, hence the "need" to binge...
Thanks for sharing!

Hello everybody :
I am making this post in the high hopes that somebody will read it and it will help/inspire them.

This is my story in a nutshell. I am 47 and have had binge eating disorder since late 1982 when I was a college student. I have done everything and I mean everything to conquer including a stint at a very well known eating disorder center to the tune of $ 37,000 for my insurance company to fork out.

I am now diabetic and have sleep apnea.
I decided to go gluten free after reading about Oprah's 21 day fast and read Kathy Freston's book ' Quantum Healing', it has truly changed my entire life.

I have been gluten free since last Sunday, so today is day number 10 for me. Not only have I lost 7 pounds which is of course brilliant, more importantly I no longer crave carbs and I no longer binge at all. I have an extremely limited diet even by the standards of the average vegetarian or vegan, as I eat no animal products at all, nor do I eat soy or sugar in addition to cutting out gluten.
My diet is primarily what Dr Neal Barnard recommends which is beans, veggies, fruit and I do include flaxseeds and I use a limited amount of extra virgin olive oil and I do have a small amount of pistachios daily as well.

I would not even begin to try to push anybody to such a limited way of eating unless you were heavily inclined to do so, but I will say this, limited or not, in 26 years this is the only approach that has worked for me. Not only am I reducing my excess weight, but at last ...........binge and craving free !!

If any of this helps you, please use it.
