I do the same as the last post. i don't follow the meal plans. I buy food that I know is gluten/wheat free and I add it to my faves so I can input easily when I eat it. If I tried to follow the meal plan it would be nearly impossible since I can't eat fruit, dairy, red meat, gluten, or wheat.
Whew--I'm a week into this & glad I'm not the only one with this issue!
What I've been doing is "adding my own food" & removing the meal plan meals.
I try to add in the food closest to what I'm eating. For instance, I eat those Mott's Apple Sauce Cups. They are only 125ml (1/2 cup) so on the food search: It lists Mott's Natural AppleSauce in bulk form. So I click on it & then scroll to the bottom & make sure it says 0.5 cups on it.
This works well.
I've run into some problems but nothing (yet) that is a huge issue.

I totally agree it is hard to type in foods and that they do not have on the list. i always have to get the bag of whatever i eat and add it to my food list. I also have an allergy to millet, and quinona and that is usually in gf products. I am doing much better to keep GF because I know I am not helping my body putting it into my system.
At least I'm not the only one out there, then. I doubble checked to make sure it wasn't an option- they have so many options that are choices, but not a GF diet that's really a requirement for some of us (more of a choice for me, but I know there are others out there who have no choice)
Maybe instead of just writing e-mails we can plug in our favorite GF recipies and then go rank eachothers...if there's enough people here to make one of them "popular" maybe Sparkpeople will get the hint.
I just make totally random substitutions... SP says eat an english muffin, I eat some ice cream. SP says have a piece of toast, and I eat some cottage cheese. SP says eat more cottage cheese, I eat an apple. It throws off my categories, but I figure its more important that I eat whats good for me than to make sure I get exactly the right number of carbs and protein and stuff. I guess then the answer is I have not had much success navigating the SP meal plan, but I've figured out how to make it work for me even though its absolutely random and not necessarily very balanced.
I haven't had any luck so far but I sent an email to them asking to make GF meal plans an option just like they have vegetarian options but I have not had a response yet. Maybe if all of us GF spark people sent emails they might see that there are a lot of us here and get moving! Or at least respond!
I would love to know if anyone else has found a way to get around it with the current meal plans!
Almost ever meal every day has bread of some kind recommended in it! I like using the meal plan (mostly because I'm lazy and I want a guide instead of doing it all myself), but it's not very helpful if I have to spend a half hour every day online digging through the foods they recommend and calorie-count for me just so I can find something that's GF and yummy and well balanced.
