We're very happy to announce Fitness Maps. This feature allows you to measure, save, and see how far you walk, run, or bike when exercising outdoors. What we love about this feature is that its very easy to use. Just:
1) Go to the Fitness Maps page (it is located under Healthy Lifestyle/Fitness, in the center of the page)
2) Enter the starting address
3) Click points on the map to draw your route. Note that you can zoom the map in or out for more or less detail
4) Enter the amount of time it took you to complete your workout (to calculate your average speed)

We will then give you your total mileage your average speed, and even the calories burned. You can then add your calories burned to your fitness tracker.

In addition you can also:
- Save your route to access later
- Share your route so other members can see
- Use the city dropdown at the top of the page to see routes in your city

We hope this feature makes it easier to calculate your distance and calories for routes, to remember your routes, and to find great new routes that other members have done!

"We launched an improvement to our "Add a Food" page yesterday where you can now search foods shared by other members right from the main search page. As a reminder, when members manually enter a food into their tracker they have the option to share with other members. Please note that these foods are not checked by SparkPeople.

There are two ways to search our shared foods:
1) On the lower right of our Add a Food page you will see a button to select titled "Search foods shared by other members"
2) If you run a normal food search and we don't find any results, we'll automatically search our shared foods.

Note that when you run a shared food search that we give a note saying this is what you searched (starts with "Important") and we also show the username of the food sharer with each food.

Our main food database has around 10,000 foods, while our shared food count is currently at around 600,000 foods. So this should be very helpful to find new foods on the market, more unique foods, international foods, and more!"

So many new features are being added recently. It's hard to keep up. I would cut and paste but there is a lot on this one. Short story, you can now save spark daily entries to your favorites. THey are called daily sparkblog entry on your sparkpoint tracker.

SparkTeam Search.You can now do a search within a specific SparkTeam Forum. You'll find a search box at the top of the Team Forums on the main SparkTeam page, and then within a SparkTeam message board you'll find the search at the top of the messages or topics. Please note that the search is not available on private SparkTeams for privacy reasons.

SparkStreaks. SparkStreaks give you a way to challenge yourself to reach certain goals every day (or week or month if you'd like). You can view and manage your SparkStreaks by clicking on My Home/Start, then finding a link to SparkStreaks in the "myTools" section on the left of the page.

Copy meals from one day to another. Now you can copy meals from one day to another. This has been a long-standing request from our members who eat a lot of the same (or similar) foods and meals day-to-day and week-to-week. It will help you save time when tracking! Once you track at least one food for a meal, a “Copy this meal to another day” link will display next to the meal name. Click the link and a calendar will pop up, where you can choose which day to copy the meal to. It will automatically copy that meal onto the day you choose.

"We launched another enhancement to the Food Tracker this week. If you click the "See Today's Full Report" button at the lower right of the myNutrition page, you will still see a full report for that day (with all nutrients and totals by meal). But now you have the option to change the number of days to show, so you can easily print up to 1 week worth of food at a time. Also, at the bottom of the Full Report page you will see a link to "Export Data to File." This will let you save the page's records in a comma separate file, which can be opened by programs like Excel.

Both expanding printing and exporting have been requested by members for quite a while, so we hope they make the Food Tracker even more helpful for you!"
The above is from one of the resident sparkexperts. I haven't looked at this feature myself yet. If anyone here tries it out, let us know. I'll post more once I check it myself as well.

Click the "wacky Walkers" link above this thread. It will bring you to the main page. Scroll down a bit and you will see a moving "ticker" with huddle comments on it. You will also see a place where you can leave your own comments or check one of the choices of huddle comments available.

This is from coach dave--about another enhancement:

We launched an often requested enhancement to the myNutrition page today. You can now add extra meal categories for tracking food! Many members have requested this because they eat more than one snack a day. So now you can add as many other meal categories as you'd like.

To add new categories:
1) Go to your myNutrition page
2) At the bottom of your day's entries, click the button that reads "Add/Edit My Extra Meal Categories"
3) You can then click to add a new category, and type in any name that you'd like (Snack 2, Mid-morning Snack, Morning Break, etc)

After adding a new category, you can edit or delete the categories, plus you can change their order at the bottom of your page. Please note that when you add new categories they will always show up at the bottom of your page, under the normal categories.

We hope this makes the Food Tracker an even better tool to help you learn to eat better and reach your health goals!

Based on requests from members, the "notes" section of your fitness and nutrition tracker will be made public if you've shared them with a link from your SparkPage. (If you haven't made your trackers public, this would not apply to you.)

If you prefer not to share the "notes" section and your trackers are currently public, you'll want to go to Edit My SparkPage and uncheck the box to make them private again.

Hi Everyone!

We launched an enhancement to our weight loss tickers today so that you now have the option to show pounds lost(and goal) instead of your actual weight. If you go to Edit SparkPage and to your ticker section, you will see 2 options:

1 - Show my starting weight, goal weight, and current weight (example starting 180, goal 160, current weight 170)
2 - Show my total pounds to lose and pounds lost (example starting 0, goal 20, pounds lost 10)

Option 1 used to be the only choice (and if you make no changes how your ticker will appear), but you can now change to option 2 if you'd like.

This change was based on feedback from members who preferred not to share their actual weight but still wanted to share in their progress and success.

Here is the latest enhancement to Spark People. I copied and pasted this from Coach Jen.

Hello Everyone!

We've made a few changes to our trackers that I wanted to let you know about. The first is that there is a limit of 120 minutes per day that can go towards your SparkAmerica fitness minutes (which is the same as the limit for SparkPoints). If you do more exercise than this you're more than welcome to track it- that additional activity just won't go towards your SA goal.

The second change is that you can now track up to 7 days in advance instead of up to a month or more. The biggest reason we did this is because we've found that members who set shorter term goals and focus on the immediate future have more success in reaching those goals. Since we want to give you the tools to be as successful as possible, we felt this was an important change to make! We also hope this will help make SparkPoints and SparkAmerica leaderboards more accurate.

1. You can now comment on Spark Articles. There is a box to click to leave a comment on the article.

2. New avatars from sparkpeople.
To see or use one:
-Go to your sparkpage and click "edit my page"
-click your avatar spot to edit
- on the popup window, there is a link to click "use our success gallery" thats where they are.
Also they have them for the left side of your sparkpge. (slightly different picture)

I don't think that I have ever used the suggested meal planner. Sometimes I look at it for suggestions. I like the idea that it can create your shopping list for the week.
The best part of the Nutrition tracker is just that, knowing that I have had a balanced meal within my calorie range.
I can appreciate the new pop up window when entering new foods or searching for a food. Makes it even quicker. emoticon

I've notice it, too . Its a great help. Especially when your not really following the meal plan emoticon

And I think I just found another new feature. I was inputing my meals for today, and when I clicked "Add Food", using the "Search" method, and keyed in the first word of the kind of food I was looking for, which was "Green Peppers", it immediately popped a window where it listed the most popular searches for foods starting with "Green". All I had to do was click on the right one and it entered it. Neat!

I've been posting new features as I learn of them in various locations so I decided to start a thread about them. As I discover them, or as anyone else discovers new features--we can post them here. I suggest you check this periodically. There are a lot of new changes of late.

Today's change: Emoticons now have pull down tabs that you can use to help choose one. You won't have to go through all of them to find the one you want anymore.
