Yes it does help to see other trackers as well. I was at 196 back in March of this year. That is when I started to make changes, and I started SP in May.
I am finding that the struggles are part of the learning experience. It builds character. LOL
And maybe a couple extra pounds.
You mentioned being in the hospital for two whole weeks! Yikes!
I read a book about hormones and how it effects the entire body. At that point I had more understanding of the importance of a good working thyroid. Even a sluggish thyroid can have a impact on us. It is beyond me all the different hormones that have a CAUSE AND EFFECT on us. Good Grief!
emoticon And blessing to you. Good Night ladies.

Hi Karen...I envy your tiny daisy! It really helps to see everyone's start and end goals. Very reassuring! I was five pounds from my goal (down from almost 230 to right at 150) three years ago. Then I got sick and spent two weeks in the hospital...my thryoid issue, messing with meds...now I am back up. Seeing someone else mid goal helps me realize I can do it again!!!

Anyway, I just want to thank everyone for being willing to put their actual weight (and loss) out for the whole world to see!!! I don't know about the rest of you, but I need that!!!
Blessings,
Constance

Hey Constance,
Don't be so sure you will never run. I said that for years! I do it now--just a jog actually--and I really enjoy it. I'll probably never be a serious runner (I qualify with probably now), but I like the challenge. The 13 miles took me nearly 2 and half hours to do. I only did it once--just to do it. I've been working to walk faster now and can do a 12 minute mile pretty consistently. It took a long time to work up to that pace. I think I could go faster except my walking routes have hills and they slow me down--in both directions actually. I don't find the down any easier than the up--I have to walk at an angle either way and it slows me down. I have to get me to a track and test out my theory sometime.

I too find upbeat music helps me go faster and not notice the pain. I like "Off Kilter"--a celtic rock group that plays regularly at WDW , Canadian Pavillion at Epcot. They have 4 CD's out and they are fast and exhilerating. My teens love them--in fact they are the ones who introduced me to the music. I have to say, my teens also like heavy metal and that "growling" music. I don't know what it is, but it sounds like growling instead of singing to me. My kids couldn't get the ipod to work. My daughters friend, a computer IT wiz kid, couldn't make it work either so we knew it was an ipod problem, not my dh and my technology disablility.
About walking with kids, don't you know everything is slower when you have kids to help? Even walking? Ever try to shovel a driveway or move sand, clean etc. with the "helpers"

My ipod is my walking life! I found that not only do I walk quicker when I use it, I can go further before I realize that I am in pain.

I only use "upbeat" music...and I have rather eclectic taste. Slower music makes me think "PAIN!" Yikes!

Anyway, too bad it did not work. You would think it would be perfect the way your got it. But, we had a local family buy one at Target, only to open the box and it be full of rocks! Not rock music, rocks! YES, it was factory sealed (been all over the news here)! So, I guess you never know! Here is hoping you get another back quickly.

OH, and so you will know, it took me a long time (and four teenagers) before I could use mine! Sigh, I am stunted by time!
Blessings,
Constance

WOW...13 miles in one day??? OK, you are more than my hero!!! How long did it take you to make it that far (I am trying to budget my time and when I walk). And was it while you were still loosing or now that you are the "slinky goddess" who is so tiny that you walk that 13 miles???

I did well today! I walked my three miles, then went out for another half mile walk to run an errand. The endorphines you speak of were high...I wouldn't mind walking more now (who would have thought???).

I did learned a valuable lesson...DON'T TAKE THE KIDS!!! You would think that kids who love to run and play would be leading me, but they were dragging. Then again, I was trying to "up" my speed!

Don't get me wrong I will never be a runner...well, never say "never", but let's just say that the pigs that started flying would be frozen in mid air by the quick freeze in hades before I ran more than three steps! So, walking will have to do!

OH, one more question for you guys...as you started walking more, did you break up your walks during the day??? Or is that not a big benefit on walking. I was pondering walking in the morning then again in the afternoon.

Blessings,
Constance

Constance

My Husband just bought me an ipod so I could run with it and it doesn't want to work. I'm kind of bummed about that-we are sending it back and then we will have another one shipped. Hopefully, the next one will work. We bought the foolish thing direct from Apple and it was shipped directly from the factory in China so I don't know why it didn't work. Well, it could be because technology doesn't like me much better than I like it. I like it as a tool but I have to be dragged over to it to use it.

Hi Constance!
I'm delighted to see you joined and have jumped right in with the posting. All of us here are at different levels of exercise. You have ambitious goals and that's great. You will find that if you are consistent you will be able to increase your miles. Your body will likely crave the exercise. Endorphins are powerful stuff. I started with a mile back on March 1st. I committed to myself to do just that 1 mile every day--it didn't take me long to want to try a 2nd, every now and then. It built up and now I have done as many as 13 miles in 1 day. My husband asked "why"? I told him that it was for the same reason people climb mountains...because it is there to do and because I think I can. I think I qualify as "nuts" with you. I'm pretty sure others will be along very soon to share their experiences too. Welcome to the team! Have fun, laugh and watch as you reach all your goals with us.

Welcome Constance.

I hope you find a buddy for the Susan G. Komen walk. I'm looking for one for the American Cancer Society one.

Let's stay steady on the course together.

OK, so a few days ago Gemstone (sorry, I am really bad with names!!!) invited me to join. I had put it off but today is the day! It also happens to be the day that I went crazy and decided that not only do I really need to loose those 50 pounds I have been hanging on too (I am still down ten sizes from my highest point thank goodness), I need to walk the 2008 3Day Breast Cancer Walk for Susan G. Kohman. I am nuts.

I have no walking buddie. I know no one else who walks. How the heck am I goin to do this on my own??? It is a tad overwhelming! Sooo, rathar than sit here in a pitty party, I am reaching out to this team! HELP!

How the heck do you guys do it. I have been walking 3 miles per day, but when I miss a day it almost kills me to walk the next. My whole body feels. My goal is to bump those 3 miles to 7 to 10 miles by the time of the walk. I know that is not enough, but you have to set goals somewhere, right???

How far do you guys really walk, and how often? How did you build up to it? What tips can you offer me to start this process. I am at a loss and any and all help is greatly appreciated...as is your occasional motivation! I look forward to getting to know you all better. I am off to do my afternoon walk to pick up the kids from school.

Blessings to all,
Constance

Blessings of peace,
Constance
