It is that amazing attitude that I am hoping to cling on to. I need to learn to accept for which I do not understand, and to stop questioning "Why has this happened". Thank you.
I pray that you guys will all get some good sleep tonight as always, Yours truly

Karen, I agree with Lauren! Someone else's struggles often seem far worse simply because it's in an area we might not be as familiar with. Heaven knows I can't imagine what it must be like to cope with spina bifida in your child. It's not necessarily any harder or easier than my particular medical challenges ..... just different! We each find our methods of coping and coming to a sense of peace with the hand we've been dealt.

Personally, I believe in the power of prayer, the power of love, and the power of laughter. Fortunately, we have abundant supplies of each of those!!

Take care,
Carolyn

Karen, you've faced enormous challenges and obstacles too, don't sugar coat them in your own mind. You are a strong lady. Even when it's not you, someone you love is just as, or even harder, to accept.

All I can say for all of us is that "What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger."

And on with life we go!!!!!!!

Oh you guys, I am humbled that I should ever complain about my worst days. I am so sorry. I wish that they knew more about this so that there was better understanding and treatment.
When my daughter was born with spinal bifida, I came home with a list of specialist. When we would go to the clinic at the Loma Linda University we would see other patients with spinal bifida, but many who could not walk. I use to cry walking in and walking out. Some for me but many tears for others.

And thanks from me also, Karen. Speaking for myself, fibro was first diagnosed when my son was 4, making that 23 years ago. It came within an inch of putting me into a wheelchair. I was fortunate that after many years of extreme ups and downs, I went into a remission of sorts, and although always there, it became tolerable.

But the fibrofog robbed me of my last 2 years of education, completely changing what I had set out to do. I'd gone back to school at 40, but midway through, the onset and destruction of the fibrofog was relentless.

As Patty mentioned, there is the danger that you'll attribute new symptoms to the fibro, when in reality they may not be, and in that respect, it's one of the ways fibro plays with your head.

Since the surgery, I've begun a return to sleeplessness, one of the hardest things I overcame, muscle spasms, shoulder pain, stabbing pains in my legs, and other large sections of my body are beginning to ache in very sad and familiar ways, with a special emphasis on my hips.

The treatment that has been used with me for years, Vitamin C and Zoloft, is not working. Although I want to, I can't pretend that I'm not aware of what's happening. We were told today the stress of the surgery is responsible for what's being considered a return of full FMS symptoms. They want to try a new drug. I'm not willing.

Not being able to exercise right now is the problem. If I could, I would be able to regain enough control over it. I wish I could blink away the next 5-6 weeks, right up to the moment I can begin exercising. I'm going to have to wait it out.

Good news is, it's not fatal! Bad news is, sometimes it feels like it is!

You can include me in the fibro bunch. I was diagnosed with that back in 1990. The fibrofog is bad, but I discovered it's not a patch on hepatic encephalopathy (which I now have thanks to this rare liver disease).

I take elavil to help me sleep and I will say that once I get to sleep, I'm home free! It's just getting there that can be so tough at times.

Take care,
Carolyn

Thanks Karen.
I can't speak for Lauren (or anyone else for that matter) but Fibro is nasty stuff. I suspect you found that out in your research. I figure if I have to have something, fibro at least won't kill me. It just hurts a lot--always--but I got used to it. Other than robbing me of my cognitive clarity I do fine. The fibrofog is the worst part for me. I was a teacher and the fibrofog took that away. My choice to leave--it was the right decision--but I loved being a teacher and I do miss it. It is also hard to know whether symptoms you have need checking out or are just some new way the fibro has decided to play with you.

I saw that well after midnight posting you made Lauren and I was wondering if you were still up! We all seem to be a bunch of night owls here. Maybe we need to start a new thread for us. "Calling all night owls"-- emoticon
Either that, or we have to figure out how to get to bed earlier (a better idea than the thread).
Lauren,
I would expect the fibro has a lot to do with it. It is what keeps me up for so late. I stay up until I get crosseyed and my head starts to nod (drop) towards the keyboard. It's pitiful, but at least Iknow when I get into the bed, I will sleep.

We seem to have a trio of night owls in here!
(Rats! No emoticon for owls either!)

However, it's just hitting 3:00 AM here on the east coast and I'm headed on to my bed.

G'night!! emoticon Sleep tight!! emoticon

Hi Lauren, I would sing you a lullaby, but I am so bad at singing, someone would knock me over the head!
Have you ever tried Melatonin? It is natural occuring
in our bodies, and a supplement before bed really helps many people. How about a little milk and a book. I wish I could help you out. Hopefully by now your on nodding out! Good night Lauren. Sweet dreams to you.

No musical notes emoticons, so how about a soft guitar strumming Brahms' Lullaby? emoticon

Lullaby and good night, with roses bedight
With lilies o'er spread is baby's wee bed
Lay thee down now and rest, may thy slumber be blessed
Lay thee down now and rest, may thy slumber be blessed

Sweet dreams!

Cause apparently that's the only way I'm going to get any sleep! emoticon

Every night it's been later and later that I'm nodding off. I don't know why, but wondering if my FMS and the stress of the surgery has anything to do with it? I've attributed the extra pains to the surgery, but wonder.

Oh my, I hope this goes away soon. I really need to sleep. Anyone in the mood to sing me a lullaby?
