Oh man does that sound really good! And apple pie for dessert?

I also steamed some brussel sprouts with the other vegies and at least I enjoyed them!

I will have to test it out at some point. I'm hoping this means we can just click on links withih the replies and not have to actually copy and paste them or manually type them into the browser.

I just typed in the address and it worked. Did you copy/paste the whole address?

I just put it up again here--the other post had part of the html on the second line so maybe that's why you had a problem with it?

I am going to spread the word. What a wonderful way to support and send thanks. I am so grateful to all those soldiers, and with Thanksgiving coming up and Holidays, it will be a time that they are missing being home and with their family.

Something cool that Xerox is doing

If you go to this web site, you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq . You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.

Good morning wacky walkers!
I made an amazing discovery this morning while browsing through the Sparkpeople fitness calorie counter. There are more calories burned walking on a treadmill than just "walking". I'm not sure why this is, but it is there. The treadmill calories listed actually match the calories my treadmill says I burn. If you are using a treadmill for your walking, make sure you record it as treadmill walking to get the most accurate calorie burn count.

I know what you mean Lauren. When I was researching the cost I saw that a family membership could reach up to 70ish dollars at the Y depending on where you are at. Here it is only 30 a month and only a little more what the nearby gym would cost and it is for the whole family so always a plus for me.

I asked them at the front desk why there is such a difference in cost and was told it depends on location/cost as well as what all each Y has to offer.

I'm glad your insurance helps out. Wouldn't it be great if all insurance companies would do that ? Seems like the healthier you are the less money they would lose.

Tonya, I'm really glad that you're enjoying the Y. David and I used to belong to the Y but then they raised their costs way above what we could afford. Since our health insurance helps with our gym fee, that's been a better bargain for us. And it's so great that your children can go, too.

The Y here is probably small compared to others in bigger cities but big to me since I'm not used to it yet, lol. I most likely will not get to go today but will this weekend. I'm looking forward to swimming with the kids but I told them if they were not doing as they were told that they could not go. They are acting pretty decent this week though.

Oh Tonya you would laugh at the size of the Y here. It's so small I think they put some of the equipment outside when they are open just to make room! LOL
I haven't played raquetball in a century, loved it too! Real 'glistening' when in full motion! Have fun with it. I wish our city pool would stay open longer (we are in Fl in case they hadn't noticed!) At least I could do water aerobics! That's a great one besides just doing laps.

I can't even begin to tell you how happy that I am for you. Is the treadmill your favorite so far? As far as cardio. I have never tried racket ball. Wow, you can sure do a lot of fun stuff. Did you learn to play racket ball in school? I was in X-country, track & swimming. But I was yearning to do tennis. emoticon

Karen, so far I am really liking the Y. The only time I am a bit anxious is when it gets full of teenage boys lifting all those weights. Comparatively I feel like the odd one out then. But for the most part it is a mixed bunch of all ages and never so busy that I had to hurry off a machine or on to one for that matter.

Honestly I never thought I would find myself comfortable exercising in public but now it is not so bad. I even played racket ball with my daughter there today.

As for skates the old fashioned are more my style. We still have a few rinks around here but I have not tried in years. I only tried the inline once and almost killed myself just standing up in the things, lol. Oh well, at least I tried.

Today I went back on the treadmill and am happy to say that I upped my speed a bit. I could manage 3.4 miles per hour but could only get a little over a 1/4th mile done at that speed. If I go back tomorrow I am gonna split the speed between 2.5 and 3.4 and see how far I get that way.

They are street skates--got them back in the 70's when they were a California phenomenom (Venice Beach). White with sparkling red hard rubber (or plastic) Wheels and matching sparkling red laces. Still got the laces too! They are a bit frayed. I've let my kids use them at the roller skating rink before the rinks all closed around here. Now it is just roller blades.

Sounds like fun to me! I suspect the blades might win though! I'm fast, but I've seen how fast you roller blade athletes move. I can't ice skate either. I'm such a wimp. Again with the ankles and to add insult to injury, my feet get too cold. It's always something. emoticon
I was pretty good on the roller skates though. I don't know if I could still fit into them. I think my feet grew--seriously. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that as you get older, your feet get longer. I was a 9 and now I am a 9 1/2 and I haven't tried my roller skates on for a while. Now that I've lost all my weight, I was thinking of pulling them out to try them on but the weather is starting to chill now so maybe I will wait til spring. Good incentive to stay slim over the cold winter.

Not steel ankles, just sore ones right now! I can ice skate so thought it was the same. Just that I can't stop on my toe! I have to slow down to a stop, so found a deserted subdivision so no traffic. So I don't have to be good, just stay up! LOL

Rollerblading?! You must have ankles of steel and amazing balance. I can skate, but I need those old fashioned 4 wheel type. I tried the roller blades--couldn't balance on them and my ankles kept turning down or inward. Looks like a great workout! I know regular skates are. The best I can do on wheels now is my kick scooter. I can really get around on it.

Well please let me know how you like it. Is it more women then men? I get a little nervous when there are people waiting for a piece of equipment that I am on. And I usually get off before I am done, thinking that I am being polite. Then I would go wait in line for the next.

Thanks guys! I really am looking forward to the family time and without all the stress I was dealing with before I moved.

The Y here does have a sauna/steam room as well as most things you would find at a lot of the other major gyms.
The one here even offers free nursery so when it is time to really get the work on I can take Manuel in there for up to 2 hours....working out 2 hours straight is just a dream for me, lol...but I'll get there one day. I think I'd be happy if I could just make it to an hour.

Yes, Patty, I did. 2.5 Pounds. Thanks for noticing. I totally forgot to post it on the "Count Down" thread. After I enjoyed the porch, I got ready to go to the Surgeons office for an earlier than scheduled follow-up. Since I developed a fever, they wanted me in. But, it's from the respiratory infection. He says I'm a little under midway with my healing, and that the surgery was a big deal, and not to undermine the seriousness of it. And to follow the rules, and that it would just take time and getting used to the scope of what he took out and repaired. He was VERY serious, informative, and had a super nice bedside manner! I'm feeling a little bit better tonight. So that's a great thing!

Tonya, I'm so glad that you were able to join the Y. That will be fantastic for you and your children, and so much fun!

Hi everyone, Hubbies big 50 is coming up so I need to focus on cleaning the house and still trying to find him a gift!
Paleorchid, I am glad that you joined the Y. There is one about 15 min. from here that I have never checked out, so I do not know what equipment they may have. Does the one you go to have a pool or one of those sauna rooms? I think I will sign up just for the sauna room.

Didn't have any 'scheduled' walking today, but lots of 'gotta fix that' walking between offices and bldgs. Even in the rain! Probably only a mile but that's better than none. Even went to other offices when they tried to do the fix over the phone. 'Nope, need the exercise, I'll be right over'. Keeps my head clear too!

I think you are doing just fine! The speed is not as important as the fact that you are working on getting healthier and are just being active. As you become more conditioned, you will be able to do more but for now, pat yourself on the back and give yourself a big emoticon .

Joining the YMCA was a great idea. It's a great way to stay active year round. What a great example you are setting for your kids.

Evening everyone. Just wanted to drop in and say hi. I think I surely was kidding myself on how good I was walking. I know I was up to 2 miles per day but was not really counting to see how long it took me to do it. I joined the YMCA yesterday and decided to try one of the treadmills...well I started out slow 1.5 and was not satisfied with that so I increased until I was just a little over 2.6 miles per hour and guess what ? I just barely got to a fourth of a mile before I was having the bring the speed back down. It took me six minutes to make it so I guess that means I normally would walk a 24 minute mile if I was able to keep that speed..but I doubt I could...I must walk around 1.7-1.9 on normal pavement...gonna have to take my stopwatch out with me next time.

In a way I was discouraged because I thought I was already doing better than that but at least now I can really keep an eye on my progress. I like the facts that the machines watch your pulse too. The kids are excited about us all getting to workout there and especially about being able to swim all year long.

I was kinda of scared to put out the money for an entire year but what better way to motivate yourself to go, lol. It is already paid for, afterall.

Hi Lauren,
Enjoy the porch. Notning wrong with a little R & R when you really need it--and you do. You are still in recovery.
I was just looking at your weight ticker--Did you recently lose a little more?

Hello Everyone,

It's 75 here. I guess we're getting a little heat reprieve. I'm still not able to exercise. That one little attempt I made last week was a no-no. So very reluctantly I'll only enjoy the balmy weather from the front porch.

I hope everyone's having a really good day.

Good Morning Everyone! Hope you all have a great day. Don't forget to schedule in some time to play (AKA exercise). Catch ya all later if my computer starts to behave properly. Today is the "attack of technology day".

Aww Thanks for the applause on the cigs, yeah it was really tough to quit this time cuz both of us were out of work then. We didn't have the money and had the desire to quit so Doc got us that Chantix and it worked.
Gemstone- we have an RV that we take our 1 furgirl with us now. She's gotten used to the tether at the campsites, although I can't move without her just whining up a storm (Mommy's girl). It is tough cuz one of us has to stay with her (too destructive left alone-innocently - she's just big and clumsy) So I completely understand not wanting to have one when you do that alot. We've had to curtail some of our activities just cuz we have the dog! But other things are that she has gotten me out to do stuff with her - bark park, long walks, dog festivals etc.
I did my 2 miles this morning w/ LS WATP and yesterday at park. Trying for a record week.
Go WW's!

Hey! Welcome back Tonya!

Lauren, Enjoy that puppy! I love dogs. I don't have one anymore and I'm not likely to get one again now that I do a lot of camping. I don't think I'd want to have to confine the poor thing during travel and we camp frequently. But, I do miss those little dog kisses and snuggles.

Yep, got the pup today. She's all settled in and doing fine. Already got her to do her job outside even though she's paper trained. With 2 grown dogs that are house trained, I sure didn't want paper lying around giving them other ideas!

It is great to see ya back too, Lauren. I hate being away from you guys. Did you get your wee pup yet ?

Teri I meant to say Congratulations on the not smoking for sooo long. With so many people in my family that do smoke I do get to see how hard of a struggle it is for them when they try to quit. You really deserve some applause.

I went to look at Walmart for the ionic thing and was told they were currently out but there would be some in within the next week. We do not have a Super Walmart here yet but I read in the paper that there are plans of building one in the next couple of years. I sure hope so, cause shopping for groceries around here is insane. I guess I did not notice it when I lived here before because that is what I was used to but now I know better, lol. This week I spent over 200 dollars on the same foods that usually cost be around 130 emoticon

Hmm, I wonder if they sell anything like that at Walmart. No special shops around here. Just a tiny little town. If nothing else I can order one. I definitely need some relief, lol. When I was younger the smoke never bothered me because I was so used to being around smokers but for the last 10 years or so I have pretty much not been around it at all.

Tonya - those ionic breeze type machines are great for clearing out the smoke and smell. I'm a former smoker so I'm really hypersensitive to it now (only 5 months) And that machine is awesome. Doesn't have to be the expensive one from Sharper Image either.
I'm surprised I can walk today after yesterday's exercise. This morning we did a woods clean up so DH can mow me some better walking paths on our own property. But for now there's still plenty walking area (5 acres in the shade). Getting cleaned up a bit so I can take pooch to park for my miles in the sun! Love to sweat it out!

I like it alright. It is so different here. But the good part is there are tons of places to get a good walk or run done. And if I wanted a track the local college here has a beautiful one.

I think it will take some getting used to again but that I will find it to be enjoyable overall. The only thing I can really find to complain about is my mom is a smoker and the smoke gets my lungs icky so my exercising suffers. I wonder if a humidifier in my room might help that ?

Gemstone- if you can remember who you recorded I'd appreciate it. I had thought myself cheap for not buying the dvds but Hey I'm paying for cable so I'm gonna utilize it!
Great day for walking here. It's 55 this morning, no frost on pumpkin but great FL weather!

I cannot seem to get any sleep either. Nighty night Lauren. I hope you manage to get some rest. My lungs were acting funny tonight when I took my walk/jog. I thought I was gonna burst a lung after 8 minutes which is unusual since I had made it up to 20 minutes at a time. Maybe it is the cooler weather here. I sure hope so. Do not want to come down sick I'm just getting back on track again!

Hi Everyone,

It's almost midnight, and yep, I'm up, as usual. Tonya, so glad to "see" you again! Thank you everyone for advice...I'm following it to the tee. I am coughing alot of it out of me, holding a pillow against my incisions so they don't fly open. So far, so good, hoping that this will be shortlived.

I didn't get my puppy today. Now won't get her until next weekend, after her surgery to have her fixed.

I hope everyone had a great day, and I guess I'll toddle off and try to close these wide open eyes!

Night all,

Some of those fit tv programs are pretty hard to do. I recorded one, I don't know who did it, but it was a combination of taichi, pilates and ballet moves done with light hand weights. The first time I did it, I had trouble finishing it--ok, I didn't finish it. Then I couldn't move the next few days.
The second time I tried, I still couldn't finish it but I took fewer breaks and I got through a little more of it.
I waited a bit and in September, I tried it again. I was able to get through all the program. The endorphins helped I think because within minutes of ending, my body became a quivering mass of muscles. I was sore for the next 2 days, but nothing like in the past. So I'm making some progress with it. I plan to try again next month.

Evening everyone. I have finally finished moving and the computer is up and running again though the wiring still does need a bit of repair. I should be back around quite a bit now. Hope you are all doing well and glad to see you at home now Lauren. Remember the warm fluids.

Happy Friday WW's!
I managed some time on the gazelle this morning after my start/stop/start with aerobics. Tried one I recorded on FitTV that is a little beyond me right now-Sharon Mann, don't know if anyone has heard or seen her. Too fast, too many changes. So went back to Gilan's show I recorded. Too cheap to buy dvd's right now. That's much more my speed. Then managed to get in 15 min on gazelle doing the power glide which I equate to over 1 mile walking. Put the pedometer on today at work and just shy of 3 miles right now! Probably 5 by end of day since I'm only one here.
Lauren---I loathe Upper respiratory infections, the coughing is so painful. I've pulled ribs out that way! Hope you feel better soon! Drink your tea! Don't forget juices too, your body needs the fluids to flush it out! OK I'll shut up now.......LOL

Lauren,
Take care of yourself. You are still recovering from that surgery and your body is working hard to help you heal. Rest up so you can get well. You don't need that respiratory thing to worsen.

Good Morning Christina,

I'm puny today, not the best of days. Still in too darn much pain, and the respiratory infection has moved down into my chest, so, I'll be laying my sorry behind around wishing I could walk 3 miles. My patience is getting rough around the edges.

I'm happy that you're getting to go back home. There's no place like home, that's for sure. Have a safe trip and everyone have a good day.

Alex,
I think sometimes Leslie's mouth just runs off without her. I find her quite entertaining though. On the 5 mile challenge, there is an option to just hear the music and not Leslie. I always opt to listen to Leslie. For some reason, I found the silliness soothing and it makes the time pass by quickly. In some of the walk slim's, she even surprises herself with what falls out of her mouth.

Hi Gemstone! Yes, I do the express set. Boy, if there is one thing Leslie can do is talk, hahaha! I don't know if she is ever quiet. I often wonder as I am doing the walks if she is that talkative other wise. I think it's on the 3-mile that she mentions that her children don't listen to her..if she talks to them as much as she does on the workouts, I can see why, lol! You'd have to tune out eventually. I'm sure she means well, though.

Hi Alex, Christina
Christina I have not clue why you would get that extra "burn" on the 17 minute mile other than it probably measures the minutes of walking, rather than speed?
Alex:
I love the 4 mile challenge. Is it the express set? It makes my hips a bit sore too by the end--I think it is because she does so many sidesteps--double ones at that. I think (know) she gets distracted by her own talking and I think she forgets how many she is doing. I never thought about flax for joint/hip pain. If you decide to do it, let me know how it works for you.

Thanks Alex.......We are getting lean and mean huh? lol emoticon

I walked 3 miles this morning....1 15-min mile and 2 17-min miles.......can somebody explain to me why I burned .8 more calories on the 17 minute miles than on the 15? Makes no sense to me but that is what my spark tracker says. Anyways I took a 1 minute rest in between each of them but felt pretty good by the time I made it around the 3rd time.

Hi walkers,

I'm luvin the super challenge! At the end my hip joints are a bit sore though...thinking I need to add some flax oil/seed or something..I really don't add any fat to my food. That would probably help. We have a bit of rain scheduled for today but since I walk inside, I'm unstoppable, woo hoo!!! Have a great day everyone!

Alex

p.s. Congrats on the weight loss Sassy!!!!

Good Morning Everyone! emoticon

Its going to be a chilly walk this morning....53 degrees here. Should warm up though about half way around the lake. I'm soooo excited! I lost almost 6 pounds this week.......last week I gained almost a pound so I'm really happy about this weigh in.

I didn't do my DVD last night as I had planned to. I had a *hot date* with my roommate's mother and didn't get in till late. She lives about 10 miles from my hotel so I picked up dinner and took it to her house. It was nice not to eat by myself lol.

Hope you all have a great day!

Congrats Alex on that 50 lbs. I remember hitting my 50 and shaking my head in amazement. Now, try to find something 50 lbs. to lift. That really lets you know how much you lost.

Wish I could take credit for the 'power glistening' but plagurism is a great form of flattery and a ole friend told me 'Women don't sweat they glisten!' so I stole it. And on that note a picture from another office has this 'electrified cat face' with the caption "Women don't sweat, burp, or fart. Therefore they MUST Bitch or they would explode!"
I tell DH that is my excuse! LOL

Hey Lauren!! It's good to see your e-face! I'm glad you are doing well and will be back on the work-out trail soon. And to BodybyOreo, I also love that term power glistening, hahaha, that is great! Now that I'm doing the 4-mile super challenge, I do an awful lot of that....but it feels so good!!! Oh, and another bit of good news...as of this morning I have finally hit the 50lb lost mark!!! I can't believe it...didn't think I would ever get there but here I am, woo hoo! As the saying goes, persistence alone is omnipotent! So ladies, if we just don't give up, we WILL win!! Have a great week...got to go update my ticker!

Alex

Hello Everyone!
Just getting around to posting and it's not am anymore. I like that term "power glistening". I will start to incorporate that one instead of saying sweating.
Lauren,
It is indeed great to see you posting again. You've been busy. I'm just now catching up to all of them.
Christina,
Just a little more and you are home free!
Have a great day everyone.

Congratulations Alex, I'm so happy for you! I remember vividly when you first started and each step of progress you made up from there. I'm so proud of you! emoticon

I hope to be back up exercising as soon as the doctor gives me the go ahead. I imagine I'll have to start at square one all over again. I'll think of you as I progress from viewing the video to actually doing it. You will be my inspiration!
