Ugh. Sometimes it does feel like we can't catch a break. I just read your blog. Hoping that the blood tests are wrong or, if not, the cancer is in its earliest stage and can be successfully treated. emoticon Keep walking with cooper. Our pets are family too and really empathetic listeners.

No joke. Today is sunny, but cooling. A bit breezy but the temps are not awful. Still snow on the ground, but I went out and the purple crocus survived. All the branches blown off the trees? Not so much

We have flowers coming up and may get snow later this week. Never a boring moment with the weather, eh? I enjoy being able to take outdoor walks right now.

We had some small crocus that started to pop up back in February when we had a warm spell. These have been buried in the snow and ice storms we have been having over the past week or two. The weather has been colder now than it was during the middle of our winter. I know astronomical spring arrived. We moved to "daylight savings time", and we have had the vernal equinox. I have sensed the change in the angle of the sun since February. We have birds who had been scarce (but around) flocking to the bird feeder now. We also still have snow on the ground and frequent weather advisories about ice and freezing precipitation on the roads.
I just want winter to be done already.

Quick update..I had a recheck with the asthma allergy Doc. I really like him. He is having me continue the antibiotics for 2 more weeks, gave me another long term asthma inhaler at a lowered dose and told me to continue using the nebulizer at least once a day. I am now tapered off the prednisone so hopefully my blood glucose levels will improve. The doctor said my breathing is improved. I know I am not wheezing as much. He is keeping on the antibiotics to kill the sinus infection that we suspect set off this whole mess. Once I am past the asthma part, we start testing more antibiotics to see what else I can safely take. I am so greatful to this Doctor for finally addressing the breathing and treating it appropriately. Getting in my 10000 steps each day...mostly indoors as the weather has not been conducive for me outside. In short, things are looking up.

we have a warm day coming tomorrow. My DH is skiing. On Thursday we are looking to get a foot or more of snow. Crazy weather. I would love to go hiking but I need decent weather and a companion Until I am feeling better, i don't think it would be advisable for me to head out to the Park alone. Plus, I do enjoy the company. I will stick with my lesley indoor walking or the treadmill for now Glad your DH is feeling up to hiking again so you have your hiking companion!

Wow, what a battle you've had! My DH is feeling better today, it had to have been that one vaccine you told me about. He's back in high gear and we're going hiking today because it's sunny and warm. The weather forecast is downhill from here for outdoor activity.

I'm disgusted because I gained weight since last week. Silly temptations at my church's Souper Bowl party last night LOL that's a funny! Well, I will work it off this week and more. emoticon

Yeah, I got both of the pneumonia shots and I still got pneumonia. They apparently cover many strains, but not all. Perhaps like the flu shots. I will say the pneumonia I got back on December 3rd did clear my lungs pretty fast. There was no sign of it on the Xrays 10 days later. Of course, who knows if it was still lurking and waiting to re-emerge again mid January, though I am told it was bronchitis and exacerbated asthma. I also was extremely sore after the pneumonia shot I got this past year. I don't recall being as uncomfortable after the first one but I got that one over 5 years ago. I was sore for 4 or 5 days after the most recent shot. Maybe that is the shot he got. There are 2 of them. Pneumonia, as you are discovering takes a long time to recover from so take it slow. Perhaps the cold is a gift, it forces you to stay in somewhat.
I am having a milder antibiotic reaction right now. No vomiting at least. Staying hydrated and I am now down 12 lbs. since January 19th. Not how I wanted to lose weight, but not eating much does that to a person. I am feeling considerably better than I have since this whole thing started. The treatment is working. AMEN!

Yup, antibiotics can do crazy things to our bodies as well as heal them. We're back to a heat wave (34, wind chill 25), but that's going to change next week. Ice and rain expected! Yikes, I'd rather have fluffy mounds of snow. Back to walking up and down stairs.

Vaccines can cause trouble - my sweetie had a pneumonia shot on Thursday and he still can't sleep on his side. We're pretty healthy so I think it's silly to have such a shot, but I don't say that too loud since I'm finally getting stronger after my pneumonia.

Spring will be here soon and we'll be walking strong and long distances! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

emoticon No tubes except when I am nebulizing. I think I made up that nebulizing word. I do feel I am making progress. I do hate seeing the outrageous blood glucose numbers but I also know why they are up there and that eventually they will come back down once the steroids clear. I always hear people saying the can not sleep and that their appetite increases and is uncontrollable. I am not finding that to be true for me at all. My sleep habits have not changed..they were never great anyway. I actually have a decreased appetite too. Maybe the antibiotics are countering the steroids.
I don't think exercising indoors when wind chills are way down makes you a wimp. It makes you smart. Who wants frostbite?

It sounds like you're making progress, Patty - yay for that! I knew someone once who controlled her diabetes by checking her numbers after a meal, then going on a walk until they were decent numbers again.Walking is just good medicine for all of us. I almost see you as a Borg (Next Generation Star Trek) with tubes and stuff stuck all over. I hope it's better than that and that you make even more progress over the coming weeks.

We have wind chills in the single digits, so I'm a wimp and doing exercise indoors. At least it's sunny and that's rare in Michigan in the winter.

Have a great weekend!

Well, the nebulizer has eased the wheezing, at least for about 3 hours after I use it and then the wheezing returns but not as much as it had. I also discovered that walking 5 miles at a moderate pace (3.5mph) can make my out of control blood sugar drop from 298 to 196. Non-diabetics might not appreciate the magnitude of that drop. 196 is still awful, but it is way better that a number approching 300..YIKES! Prednisone is a double edged sword. It helps the inflammation and my breathing but reeks havoc with blood sugars and is doubly bad for a diabetic. But as Bobbie said, have to breath. Not breathing is a bad thing.

Sadly, I did the 5+ miles and forgot to wear my fit bit so I won't really have a good sense of how many steps I did today but I know it had to be at least 10000. I have the fitbit on now though.
So this is me, breathing a bit better, high blood sugars and all, not having an allergic reaction to augmentin and being hopeful! I am pretty happy right now. Must be those endorphins.
Hope you all have a fantastic day!

wow Patty! I think worrying about the sugars should be the least of your worries! They won't matter much if you're no longer breathing and the doc will know it's only due to the prednisone. What a time to be starting new diabetes meds.

Poor you!!! Huggles. Thinking of you, sending positive vibes and truly hoping you feel better soon.

P.s. I agree that your sugars are unstable due to you having so much illness. Gotta love those insurance people eh. I will never understand how they get to decide if we really need something or not. sigh.

I am not ignoring you all. I am trying to get a handle on my health. I went to see an allergy and asthma specialist today to have testing done to see what antibiotics I can safely take. I thought i was allergic to just about all of them so the NP I saw for my yearly physical suggested the testing to see if things had changed. I am happy (delighted) to find out I can take penicillans and I am now taking one of them. As an added benefit, the Doctor noticed my wheezing and other asthmatic sounds and he is treating it! He said the asthma is NOT under control and the bronchitis is exacerbating it. I am back on steroids (good old prednisone) for the time being, The Doctor said that it might take 5-7 days on maximum dosage before i start to wean off over the next week or so, which means skyrocketing glucose numbers. I am now using a nebulizer at home to aid the breathing and I have a different long term asthma inhaler in addition to my rescue inhaler. I have also had to add a new Diabetes medication. I suspect my numbers will be awful anyway due to the steroids but the asthma has got be controlled so it might be problematic for the Doctor to see if the new diabetes meds work.
I have wheezing starting when I talk or walk, but I do both anyway. I am still getting in my 10K steps a day (not today though). Anyways, that's where I'm at now. I am still here, just working on my breathing. It's an important job emoticon

Boy, you still have a rocky road to get to full health, Patty. Even so, I think you're doing very well getting your steps and walks in every day. Yes, we're home and we have a fresh coat of snow. Michigan didn't have any sunshine this past week...but other than that, we're doing pretty well! emoticon I'm steadily increasing my exercise, thankful for Leslie!

Off the prednisone and watching my erratic blood sugars. It should resolve in a week or two. Funny thing is some of the readings are lower than I have seen in quite a while and of course, the high ones are ridiculously high. My doctor has written a script for me to increase my diabetes medications....yay emoticon but apparently I need to have them "pre-approved" before my insurance will cover them. I guess the clerk behind the desk at the insurance company gets to decide which medications I really need....regardless of what my Doctor recomends. I'm not that keen on taking them anyway. I think my blood sugars would be more stable if I was not sick. I had pneumonia back in early December and then a relapse of something in mid January. Illness puts stress on the body and stress can raise blood sugars. I see the Doctor again in March for a check up. Maybe I'll be on the new meds by then. It has already been a month since they were prescribed. Time will tell.
My breathing is still pretty ragged, but the coughing frequency is diminished. I am using the inhaler a lot...usually, if I used it once or twice a month, it was a lot. Now it is 4-6 times a day plus a preventative inhaler twice a day. Not fun but it does help with the breathing. The coughing is actually a good thing as it sometimes brings up what is clogging my bronchials and the rattle and wheeze is gone for a bit. I really hate this. I am back to walking and up to my 10,000+ steps a day. I am picking up the pace. I am not able to do a sustained walk so I do it is 2-4 shorter walks. Leslie has a great program which consists of 10-10 minute segments and it is just right for me now.
Are you home Vikki? I am thinking you are as you mentioned the cold. It has been chilly here and quite windy. I did manage a 3 mile walk today at the state park nearby and a 4 mile one yesterday in the same place. I had to bundle up a lot, earmuffs, gloves, scarf and a really warm down jacket. I was still pretty cold by the time i was done. Nice hot herbal tea when I got home and some soup was perfect! I still don't have much of an appetite but i am expanding what I eat a bit. I had a nice split pea veggie soup today and oatmeal. Most of my meals are soups, oatmeal, crackers, and jello....not all at once, of course. My weight is stable now that my body is able to use what I eat. I lost 10 lbs and I am ok with that so that was a good part of the illness.
Bobbie, you take care of yourself! Rest up. A head injury is not something that can be ignored. It takes time to heal. My daughter got a minor concussion in a car accident back in early September and it took a couple of weeks for it to resolve itself. Memory issues, headaches, tiredness....a lot of the things you are experiencing. You will be back to yourself in no time. You are the Phoenix. emoticon

emoticon To say you've had a rough time would be an understatement. I'm praying for your complete recovery sooner than later, Patty.

It has been pretty scary down in Florida.

I'm regaining strength for my walks and I'm thankful for that. I'm also hoping I won't catch any other illness for the rest of the winter!

I have had a bit of a tough recovery this time. I was put on antibiotics for my infection last sunday. I became very ill the next day and ended up in the ER twice for several hours during the week. Gastrointestinal problems are a known side effect of the antibiotics I was on . I have always had mild gastro issues with this particular medication, but this was extreme. I had the bronchial and breathing problems which is why I went to be seen by urgent care in the first place. The gastro stuff came on after 3 doses of the antibiotics which is what landed me in the hospital. Dehydration, trouble breathing, stuff like that. I have lost nearly 10 lbs but not in a good way. I am on prednisone but no antibiotics and increased inhalers for my breathing. I have something to stop the nausea and my gastrointestinal tract seems to be settling down. The first ER doctor gave me some sort of narcotic cough syrup. I told him I have issues with narcotics (nausea...stuff like that) but he said the one he was giving me would be fine. He was wrong and it intensified an already bad situation. I am on the upswing now. Still rattling and wheezing but I can keep liquids down. Not interested in eating anything but I am sipping fruit20, light apple juice (watered down), diet jello, decaf tea and chicken broth. My blood sugars are crazy due to the prednisone but the prednisone is helping and it is short term. Two more days. I started taking short walks yesterday-5 to 10 minutes at a time and today I did 20 minutes. Will be here sporadically while i continue to recover. Last ER doc said it could take weeks for the cough and asthma to resolve. Plan to follow up with my PC next week. Problem is he is retiring and difficult to see. He had a NP that I saw and she was useless. I felt like she was tired (she is pregnant) and just wanted to go home. She said "we are closing and there is nothing I can do for you here"....she then went to talk with my Doctor and he said to send me to the ER. That was the right call. I was taken right in (a shocker there), and put in a room with a hazard sticker placed on it and started on an IV for hydration. 2 liters later, some anti nausea drugs and mega nebulizer treatments (multiple), some meds to bring up my potassium levels and home I went. I was barely coherent when I went in but much better on the way home. That's all for now. Hope you are all safe and sound. Watching the weather today for the southeast...scary. My sister lives in Jacksonville Florida. I am worried about her.

We're still not home, I'm getting really tired of being away from it! I'm thankful for safe travels and good weather wherever we've been.

Just got back from my vacation yesterday evening. It was a 2 week carribean cruise and most of it was wonderful. A bit rocky during the sea days, but the ocean is the ocean and that is to be expected. I didn't gain any weight at all and I got my 10,000 steps, and more each day. Avoided the elevators and took the stairs to get to different places on the ship. We were on the 13th deck so it was a lot of stair climbing. I had a script for a transderm scop patch. I used one for the first 3 days at sea and then another for the last 3 home. It didn't work too well on the way down and I didn't understand why. I know now...I put it on backwards. The directions for use were awful! So I got a bit of the medication but still was somewhat nauseated. The major rocking happened on the way home. The captain changed coarse to avoid the worst of the rocking and I figured out how to get the patch on so i was actually ok, other than stumbling about but everybody was stumbling. It was actually sort of amusing to watch everyone list to the side as the ship rocked. My DH got sick with some sort of respiratory/ fevery thing during the last 3 days of the cruise. I was fine until the last day and it just kept getting worse. I was going to try to wait until my doctors office opened on Tuesday after the holiday weekend, but the illness intensified rapidly and I was having trouble breathing and coughing up a storm. I went to urgent care this morning So I am back on antibiotics. I turned down codeine cough medication and prednisone. If I have to go that route, I will but for now, I will stick with OTC mucinex, water, water, my asthma inhaler and the antibiotic and see what happens. It does seem to be pneumonia and is being treated as such. I know I got it on the ship. BUT, it was a great trip! Everyone brings back something from a cruise. I brought back a respiratory infection. emoticon

Warm weather is always appropriate for healing. We are heading south also, just after the new year. I am hoping to have most of my energy back by then. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.

Take it easy yourself, Patty! It sounds like you're a week or two behind me. If nothing else, it's forced me to have mostly calm, relaxed days. emoticon Traveling to Florida late next week will change that. emoticon Then I hope to get some good walking in!

I hear you, Vicki....recovery from the infection takes less time than getting back strength and stamina. I had pneumonia at the beginning of December. I am one week off antibiotics now and still pretty tired. On the plus side, my coloring projects are coming along great!
Hope you continue to feel stronger as you heal. emoticon

They had a construction project going outside my apartment door, so I wasn't allowed in my apartment during the day starting on Nov 14th... until today. Yay! I can lock my door and be in my apartment tomorrow after Physical Therapy!

emoticon It's true, spending time with our teams can really overtake our lives. Good to see you!

Our Michigan weather is WARM and I enjoyed a four-mile walk this morning out in the sunshine. I think this is a first for us since we moved here in 2012, so we're making the most of it!
