Back from vacation....didn't gain any weight, but didn't lose much either. On the plus side, i have most certainly gained muscle and lost inches so all is well. I put in a lot of miles while on vacation.

Half way through my 2 week vacation here in Florida. I'm still loving my nike band and making good use of my vacation time to really push my limits. Hope you all are having a great summer.

I'm getting kind of lonely here talking to myself. Continuing to increase my activity levels and I'm starting to run again, which is wonderful. My shoulder continues to strengthen but is still fairly unstable, but improving and for the most part, I have almost 100% of the mobility I had before my accident back so I am very, very happy. emoticon

lovin my nike sports band. It works well and is still a fun new toy. The fact that it is on my wrist draws my attention to it and I love watching what I do (activity) make the numbers rise on the band. Fun, fun, fun!

ladeeda---I got a Nike sports band and I am having a lot of fun racking up the points (and miles) and burning off the fuel (and calories). It's a fun little toy. How are you all doing this summer? I assume you are all keeping busy with your outdoor activities but if you have a few moments, say "hey".

I do love my endorphins! Pretty sticky and warm today but I got some exercise (activity) in so I'm feeling tired but happy. Personal training in the morning and then I did a 1 hour aerobic DVD with my daughter in the afternoon...one of Leslie Sansone's WATP programs...a 5 miler. I'm already thinking about tomorrow. It's going to be a hot and sticky day so I will probably try to work out early in the day.

Spent the weekend at Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Biked about 50 miles at a pretty fast pace over the two days we were there. My backside is sore, but my body feels great! I will say again, I love my endorphins!

Beautiful day here today. Everyone here has been very quiet of late...me included. Hope you are all out and about, staying active and reaping the rewards of a more active life. My shoulder is healed enough that I have been able to return to most of my pre-accident activities and my endorphins are flying! Happy day everyone!

Your DD is sweet...and so are the donuts....unfortunately. Good luck! I still have trouble resisting donuts and other sweets. I usually do resist them, but my motivation is related to diabetes and not weight loss motivation. I wish it were....

Hi Patty, we're having weird weather day today. Thunderstorms to start the day, followed by wind, followed by plunging temperatures...and we might have snow before the day is over! I exercised by cleaning the house (wimp). No wonder you're smiling between grandchild time and a good walk today! emoticon So glad you're having a good day! I am too, just missing out on the outdoor walk.

Beautiful day today so I put the little one in the stroller and we went for a "stroll". My spark tracker says I walked 7.6 miles but I know for a fact that is not correct. 5 miles, maybe even 5.5 but certainly not more than that. The tracker counts steps so I guess stepwise I did enough steps for the 7.6. I would have gone further but the angle of the sun changed and it was right on the tender skin of my tiny buddy and I did not want him to get his first sun burn. It was a much easier walk on the way from my home than on the way back. On the way oging from my home the wind was at my back but on the return trip I had a headwind and a stoller top billowing so I guess I got some muscle building too. I really had to work to push the stroller up the hill with the 28 lb. child and the wind working against me. Great walk, wonderful day...my endorphins are here so I am emoticon emoticon emoticon . I love my endorphins.

Hey there, Patty, it's good to hear how you're doing with your "killer" trainer! I think you're doing pretty well to survive 50 minutes! It IS hard to build back our endurance. I've found that I have to fight back for it even after a few days, and you've had a long struggle. I'm a emoticon right now with my walking pace, and it's frustrating for sure. Here's to New Beginnings! emoticon Never give up, never surrender! emoticon

I think my personal trainer is tying to kill me! emoticon I haven't been able to do the entire hour yet. emoticon but I am up to making through 50 minutes before I feel like I am going to lose everything I ate for the past year. I need to build my endurance for sure. I lost a lot of it during the time I was "nursing" my rotator cuff. You lose a lot during a year and a half hiatus....but the "loss" is not weight, it is fitness. I am trying to rebuild the endurance but it is really hard. I want to be where I was a year and a half ago and I am just not able to do it. It makes me sad but mostly mad and, I will admit somewhat discouraging. I have to keep my eye on the "prize" (me) and take baby steps, one inch, one foot, one mile at a time. I am up to 4 miles but it is at 3.4mph. I had been able to do 10+ at 4-4.5 mph before. Sigh. Here's to "new" beginnings....sort of.

Hi everyone! It's cold and breezy here! No snow melt coming for us for awhile. Today I did a cardio video and rode my stationary bike, then picked up some groceries. Nothing major planned for the rest of the day, we're having a large salad and the remaining split pea soup for dinner before heading out for choir practice.

Linsey - Very exciting to do a 5K! emoticon

We've had a couple of warm days (cold nights) so the snow is melting during the day and what doesn't dry becomes ice so I hear you about walking outside. There are no sidewalks near me so walking is on the road and that is not something I will do with the snow melt, puddles and icy patches so it's indoor workouts for me. Good luck with the 5K next month.

We still have a lot of ice on our sidewalks, so going out for a walk is a challenge. I haven't been on very many walks this winter. I feel bad about that. But, I've shoveled tons of snow, enough to make my shoulders painful! I finally had to swear off of the shoveling, and we've finally had breaks from the large snowfall amounts.

I'm scheduled to walk a 5K next month. I'm excited about that! Hoping I can get outside more often between now & then.

I don't know that we really had a mini heat wave, it got up to 40 in the middle of the night on Thursday and the temperatures have plummeted again to the 20's. We had some weird weather with heavy snow, heavy rain, both, strong winds. I hope you didn't get that mess! I'm just glad the sun is out with some blue sky today, I don't like wind except when sailing. emoticon

That PT guy is really working you hard! Can you do anything to help the soreness, like epsom salt bath or an aspirin? I haven't had to deal with toddlers in awhile, but I helped in our church nursery on Thursday and pulled and ran with two pre-schoolers. THAT was aerobic for me! emoticon They're a lot of fun though so I didn't mind..although I didn't mind when their mommies came for them either! emoticon

I'm doing well with my nutrition this week and I've worked hard at exercise every day. Leslie has been my best friend with the crazy weather! I can tell I'm losing some inches and I'm very thankful for that!

We had a mini "heat wave" today. It was above freezing. Cold front came through so now what melted is freezing over and more snow expected late this weekend. Probably your storm heading East, Vikki.
Personal trainer workout on Tuesday has left me sore so I guess he is having me work muscles that have needed working. I told him my goal was to build muscle, strengthen the core and improve balance. The hour goes fast. I just wish I wasn't so sore the rest of the week because it is hard to work out at home when I hurt. My workout during the week will just have to be chasing the child around. He's getting smarter than my baby proofing so I have to keep adjusting and chasing. Toddlers sure do move a lot!!!

We had two days of sun, now we're having two days of snow, rain, wind, repeat. It's yucky outside! I walked five miles with Leslie this morning and went on a milk run afterwards. That was enough to convince me to stay inside! I'm doing laundry and reading for the rest of the day. Encore split pea soup for dinner with a side salad and maybe my multi-grain bread.

Wow what a storm and what a mess, Patty! I'm glad you kept an eye on your sweetie; I do the same when mine shovels. Toddlers are their own special joy, aren't they. All of our grands are out of that stage, and amazingly they still like to play with us. emoticon

The play wasn't that great, but we had a good time. Yesterday we cross country skied, I wore myself out (it's only the fourth time I've tried it), and today I'm still Mighty Thor. Beautiful woods to ski through. We may go tomorrow as well while the temperatures are cold. We're supposed to reach the 40's by Thursday!

We are getting a one day reprieve from the snow but another winter storm is on the way for this weekend. This last storm ended with freezing rain on top of the slush and snow. The snow blower couldn't handle it. My DH ended up shoveling the snow and yeah, it is "heart attack" snow. He took a lot of breaks...I was watching him. He didn't want anyone to come out to help him so I went out and talked to him until he was done. Fortunately it was only about 4 inches deep but it was 4 inches of slush. The stuff was heavy. I know because I was shoveling it when it was only about 3 inches of slush. My son had also gone out to shovel as well. Nasty stuff. I am sore today but I was still able to keep up with the toddler all day. The older he gets, the more tricks he learns. emoticon

We have new snow today, just a little, like an inch. I walked a mile with Leslie before doing a circuit/ST video. I never got around to making vegetable broth, so I'm doing that now and some laundry. My sweetie completed our federal tax return this morning and we're thrilled that we don't owe for a change. I'm taking it easy today, just reading and catching up with SP. Tonight we're going to Hope College's drama department's play called "Middletown". Have no idea about the plot, my sweetie just thought it would be a nice Valentine celebration and we like supporting Hope as much as we can. Tomorrow looks like a good day to go cross country skiing for exercise before the big thaw begins next week.

I hope your snow storm is over, Patty, and your sweetie has dug out the driveway. We don't have a snow blower, but our neighbor does and we are SO thankful he runs it over to our driveway when he does his own. I guess that's the advantage of being "older" in this neighborhood! We usually have light weight snow, but that stuff you'all have is the so-called "heart attack" stuff. Not fun to deal with at all.

I never got the "big soreness" I expected from the personal trainer session afterall so that was a very pleasant surprise. The kitchen sink was a reference to the weather predicted which is somewhat worse than predicted in my area. We have snow, ice, freezing rain and just plain rain just to slush it all up. I tried to shovel my driveway and I gave up. The stuff was still falling and all I was doing was moving slush and leaving an underlayment of ice. I am majorly skittish about falling now. I am not totally healed with the shoulder after a year and half. I don't want to fall again. My DH has a snowblower and hopefully he'll be able to move the stuff. The snowblower doesn't really work great with the slush, it tends to clog up the chute. I got my exercise in today shovelling for an hour and a part.

Wow, Patty, that was some PT session! I hope you're feeling better today. Do the snow, rain, kitchen sink and animals all relate to your weather? emoticon

Well, I didn't do well nutritionally yesterday, but that's just one day. Today it's SUNNY, no snow, and 26! Heat wave! emoticon I have sour dough bread dough rising and just finished a combination of stationary bike/walk with Leslie/low impact aerobics with Kathy Smith. Good grief, it's a good thing I'm retired. However, I need to keep surprising my body so that I can keep making progress towards a healthy weight again. Nothing much planned today other than the bread and making vegetable broth for split pea soup tomorrow. Since I overdid with the calories yesterday, we're having a BIG salad and leftover steak for dinner.

I went to the personal trainer yesterday and I am less sore than I thought I would be. I do tend to feel it more two days after I over exert myself so I'll see how I do. I know the workout was intense. I had to stop 10 minutes before the end of my hour with the trainer because I felt nauseous. That was a first. I was relaxed though. Snow, rain, the kitchen sink and cats and dogs tomorrow.

We not only have no new snow, but the sun is out! emoticon Today is pretty full for me so I walked a mile with Leslie and then did circuit training with Kathy Smith this morning, then got a badly needed haircut. This afternoon I get to help with my church's care closet, we'll have dinner at church and then choir afterwards. Olympics afterwards! emoticon

Thanks, it feels great to be back!

The snow only turns brown when it starts to melt, which means it has to be warm enough to melt...which it isn't here! emoticon I have to agree about the Olympics cross country skiing, it looked like murder to us when we watched it! You are supposed to have that gliding, sprinting form to optimize your skiing, but I'm still doing what my instructor calls the piston style, which is probably related to the "I'm scared of falling" style. emoticon

I walked with Leslie this morning and I have post-vacation laundry to get done, just in general getting back into the swing of life. Fortunately, I planned our meals before we left on vacation so we're good to go this week. Have a great day, everyone!

I thought we all got the dirty brown snow after the plows and clean-up comes through. I used to think that I'd like to try cross-country skiing but after watching the the cross country ski "marathon" race today I'm not so sure anymore. Ah well, snowing here again tonight, but not a big snow this time. Just enough to make for a slippery commute tomorrow morning. I'm off to bed. Glad you had a great vacation Vicki and welcome home. emoticon

Well, I'm back in the Frozen North after two weeks in Florida and one in Virginia/Washington DC. We have at least two to three feet of new snow since we left in the middle of January, but it's very pretty, not dirty or brown like in Virginia. We had a great time, we're very happy to be back and my stationary bike and my Leslie Sansome DVD will keep me active until we can fit in a day cross country skiing.

Have a great day! emoticon

Good Morning everyone. After a sloppy day yesterday, today the sun is shining and reflecting off the fresh cover of ice and snow. It's quite pretty. I was unable to go for my personal training this week due to circumstances beyond my control....(the weather). I was also unable to post anything to this teams threads other than this one yesterday early in the day. For some reason, none of the "reply" buttons would work. I could post on other areas of SparkPeople just fine...my block, spins, etc. I just could not post specifically to this team. I contacted support and now it is working find. Weird. Have a great day!

My dog HATES cold weather. He asks to go out but as soon as the blast of cold air hits him, he backs up and looks at me as if to say, "are you nuts? It's cold out there, I was just kidding with the whole begging to go out thing". It's pretty funny actually. He's a cheagle (beagle/chihuahua) and he is pretty intolerant of the cold. He doesn't particularly like very hot weather either.

Normally, I walk my dog during the winter months....b/c she loves the snow. But THIS winter has been SO cold, that we haven't been walking as much. I'm feeling quite lazy, actually.

Wow, what a winter, huh? We're still in FL, it's in the high 30's this morning. Natives are complaining. We're driving down to the Orlando area today, so I'm walking before we head out. Still doing well with nutrition and exercise. YAY!

Big snowstorm today to be followed by another blast of the polar vortex. We have about 10 inches on the ground so far and it is supposed to really ramp up overnight. Walked with Leslie today so i got my miles in at least.

Hey, Patty! What a fun trip! We're in FL right now - it's cold but warmer than west Michigan right now. Took a couple of walks already, getting ready to go bicycling. Good for you and no weight gain! I'm hoping for weight loss in spite of my in-laws LOL! Beautiful sunshine here, loving the long daylight hours. Got go! emoticon

Hello all! Seems like I picked the right time to go on a cruise! We left home the day before the blizzard hit New England and were sailing towards the British Virgin Islands while you were all freezing in the States. BRRRRR.....we saw the reports on the weather on the international newsfeeds on the ship. We just returned home today so I've been catching up on news and emails. We had no phone or internet service while on the cruise so it will take me a bit of time to catch up on everything. I did get in a lot of walking so my weight did not increase...it didn't decrease either. Happy New year!

Hi Linsey,
I'll check in and say I was not in the path of those storms on Sunday. It was quite warm and breezy here today...unseasonably warm actually. I was busy doing chores that had to be done indoors today so I didn't get out much.

I WANT to go for a doggy walk, but it is SO cold & windy out there! Yesterday was stormy, so no walks happened then, either. The only exercise I've done today, was cleaning up all the tree branches from last nights storm. There were kind of a lot, but they were all small enough for me to take care of on my own. I still may muster up the courage to take the dog out.

Hope everyone else is fine today & that you weren't in the path of yesterday's wind damage & tornadoes.....

MRI Arthogram done last Friday. Waiting for the results on this upcoming Friday. I was seen by a Doctor this weekend to remove a tick from my arm. We have a cute little chihuahua/beagle hybrid who loves to play out in my yard....with the ticks, apparently. I woke up on Saturday morning with a tick hanging off my arm. I now have a large, itchy red dot around a dime size crater where the tick was....and i am on Doxycycline as I live in a lyme disease area. UGH. I hate taking doxycycline. My grandson is now preferring walking to crawling. He took his first few steps two weeks ago. I love watching little humans grow! Amazing creatures. I'm continuing to make progress with my PT for my shoulder...not sure if it will ever be back to how it was before I fell, but I will keep trying.

Saw the orthopedic surgeon on Friday and he is sending me for more tests...BOO. He is also thinking I have a tear somewhere in the shoulder area that didn't show up during surgery or on the previous MRI. Not too happy about the new test. I looked it up on Youtube...ewwwww and ouch.
My youngest grandson celebrated his first birthday today. He turned 1 yr last Sunday and started walking right around the day he turned 1. I got the new spark gadget (don't recall it's name) but it is a good motivational tool for me. It records my activity level and I am having fun "playing" with it. I was playing with my 21 year old son today. He is home from college for the weekend and he asked me to punch him. I can't hurt him....he's a 2nd degree black belt in Karate and an instructor. He just likes to shock new people he meets by having someone take a good hit at him. The kid has abs like a brick so now I am sporting a sore hand. I'm icing it and taking aleve to try to stop the pain. It would be pretty hard to explain to a Dr. that hurt my hand punching my son. He's fine by the way and has been apologetic to me for hurting my hand....because he begged me to hit him.

Stepping up the stepping miles again. My shoulder pain is still there and I am seeing the surgeon who did the surgery next week as the PT and the surgeon's PA and me all feel the progress is not as it should be. The PT believes that a tear was missed and has suggested I get a second opinion after hearing what the original surgeon has to say. I've had some improvement since the original injury and I can walk more comfortably now. The pain is tolerable in my shoulder as my arms swing so I have returned to doing my miles. I'm sore...but it is a good kind of sore. I enjoyed walking and the other activities I had engaged in before I had my accident last November and I've been without my wonderful endorphins. I'm aiming to get them back now.

Beautiful day here in SE Massachusetts. Seasonable and pleasant temperatures abound. I went out this morning with the dog and while he was foraging (etc, ahem), I took some time to grab some vitamin D in the sun and do some gentle stretches. I am now able to do some Leslie Sansone WATP with some limitations but I can do it which is good.
I saw the Orthopedic PA for my 6 week post-op. She has not yet spoken to the PT so I stressed how important it was that they talk as the PT has questions and really needs to have a conversation with the medical folks. The PA is also concerned that my Range of Motion is still limited in some ways so she is sending me back to the surgeon (orthopedist) in three weeks. Sigh, and so it goes. Stay tuned and keep walking! emoticon

Heat is finally breaking here today. We had a heat index of over 110F on Wednesday and it was brutal! The dewpoints were in the 70's. That's not typical of New England and especially not typical mid September. I have my follow-up with the Orthopedist today, sort of. I am seeing his PA. My PT has been trying to talk to them for the past month to no avail. Phone tag is the name of the game. The PT is questioning if the surgery actually addressed everything that needed to be done. I have improved range of motion when my arm is moved but I can't do the same actively. Forget putting my arm behind my back....just doesn't happen. It just stops at the point of my hip. Not good. The PT said that on average, pain should be gone pretty much and mobility restored 8 weeks after surgery. I am at 6 weeks and working hard at it. The PT is pleased with the improvement in range of motion in some areas, but she is thinking there may be a tear somewhere else as the pain continues to be in places that are not consistent with the diagnosis....in fact, it is in the same place it was when I was in PT trying to avoid surgery after my injury. SO, the PT wants to have a conversation with the ortho to discuss what she is seeing. The good thing is that I do have more active range of motion for reaching forward (not up, but forward and a bit up) and I can put my hands on top of my head, as long as I keep my elbows close to my body. This means I can wash my hair comfortably by myself! Yay me.

Welcome Way2GO! I know that eventually the shoulder will be better but it is SO hard waiting. I asked the PT why I still had pain and she said that I have to be patient and that on average it takes 8 weeks before I will really notice a big difference emoticon I thought it would a couple of weeks. There is an improvement in how much my arm can move passively, but when I try to engage muscles, it burns! It's good to hear that these things get better. How long did yours take?

One week has passed now since the surgery. I can move my arm. The incisions hurt and itch but I guess that is part of the healing process. I only need to use the narcotic painkillers at night now and have transitioned to just motrin during the day. My post surg. appointment is next Tuesday. I am optimistic. Right now, I can move the arm about as much as I could before the surgery but I think that might be a good thing. We'll see.

two days have passed since surgery. I am sore and still groggy from the anesthesia and the pain killers I was given to take at home turn my stomach. UGH. BUT, if I am in the 85% of the people who have this surgery and have a successful outcome, it will be worth it. Resting is what I need now and it is what i will do.

Six days to surgery....the countdown is on and I am anxious and nervous. I just returned from a 4 week vacation in paradise. It was soggy in paradise, but i was able to relax and get in some fun physical activity. Taking care of last minute details before surgery. I'm also planning a quick trip this weekend to see my Philly "kids" and then they will be coming to see me the week after surgery so we are working on getting guest rooms ready. I will take a bit of time to do it because just before we left we got new carpets and everything we moved to put down the carpets is stored in the guestrooms. Well, maybe not everything, but a lot of small stuff that needs to be put away. My grandson turned 8 yesterday so the weekend will be a birthday celebration for him as well. Looking forward to it and it will take my mind of the surgery. I return on Monday and the next morning I have surgery. It's coming up quickly. so I am keeping busy!

So I made a decision to have surgery on my shoulder to try to get my mobility back. I saw the orthopedist that I have been seeing since I fell back in November. I've done everything the PT's have recommended and I am compulsively doing my exercises at home and I still have mobility limitations and pain. I had planned to go to the shoulder institute at mass General Hospital but it is difficult to speak to a live person. They recommend that you fill out a form to request an appointment which I did on Monday. Today is Friday and nobody from Mass General has called. When I saw the Orthopedist today he recommended the surgery. I balked, of course and left after setting up an appointment in July to see him again. I'm leaving for Disney and really didn't want to deal with the whole surgery thing until after my vacation. My DH and I made it to the parking lot and he said you need to do this, so lets go in an make the surgical appointment. He has some time off in the summer to help me and said he'd like to be there during my rehab plus I will be watching my youngest grandson in the fall when my daughter returns for her final semester in her Master's degree program so I need my arm to be healed up. The little fellow will be just shy of 1 year old at the time. He's crawling and standing now but he will still need to be carried when "mom" heads to school. I'm at peace with my decision and will enjoy my time at Disney relaxing and walking and getting strong before the surgery. If all goes as planned, it will be day surgery and I go home after the procedure. The Doctor said it is done under general anesthesia so no worries there. The best question the Doctor asked me was did I think I could live the rest of my life with the shoulder and pain the way it has been since November. I can't. The surgery has an 85% chance of restoring normal function so I'll take it. If it doesn't work, there is always the shoulder institute. Bet they call me by July! emoticon

Hello Walkers!
We are almost 450 strong now! Welcome to our newest member!
I'm still in PT for the ripped up rotator cuff. Doing a lot of exercises to strengthen the muscles around the cuff. I'm seeing the orthopedist this week for an updated assessment. I've pretty much decided to go to the Shoulder Institute at Mass General to get my shoulder evaluated (second opinion) and to see what can be done. The PT pretty much feels that my current diagnosis is incomplete. I still have a high level of sharp pain and impairment despite the muscle building and work I've been doing in PT. The PT said that sometimes the MRI can miss stuff and he believes that may be the case. I am able to walk with less pain, though I have to take it carefully. Swinging my arms is still pretty unpleasant but I have managed a Leslie Sansone mile, no arms....just the leg movements. SO, PT for the upper body and Leslie or a slow walk for the rest of me. The PT suggests using a treadmill and resting the arm on the handles of the treadmill. Happy Walking everyone. Memorial Day weekend is upon us (in the US anyway) and with it comes the unofficial start of summer.. Couldn't tell by our weather....30's tonight! Yikes.

I just completed my 2nd week of physical therapy for the shoulder. The therapist is optimistic that the therapy may be all I need to do to get my shoulder function back. I've already decided that if it doesn't work I'll be heading into NE Baptist Hospital in Boston to see what else can be done. They are supposed to be one of the top facilities for my sort of injury in the area and if surgery is recommended by the ortho I am seeing now, Baptist will be my 2nd opinion. I really want the PT to be the end of this. I talked with my Doctor (not the ortho) about this whole thing and she supports the conservative approach because she said that surgery has its own risk of leaving scar tissue and doesn't always work. She agreed a 2nd opinion would make sense if surgery is recommended by the ortho so for now, PT, can't do a lot of anything because of the shoulder pain but it will get better.

Oh my, Vicki!
I have never seen a tornado though I've been in places where the tornado was nearby. I live in SE Massachusetts and while not unheard of, we don't have the tornadic activity seen in other parts of the county. I'm glad to hear you and your family are ok. News today is all about the Boston Marathon. I was out of state this weekend and had no idea that something had happened. I found out when my son who we had been visiting called his brother to find out if he was OK. My son is a first responder (medic) and had worked the medical area near the finish line last year. He was off today but went in to see if he could help as soon as he heard about what happened. We are very familiar with the area. My DH and I as well as my son and daughters-in-law all attended college in the area. Most of the major medical centers of the Northeastern US are located near the marathon finish line so the injured had access to the some of the best medical care from some of the best our country has to offer...Mass general, Boston medical, New England Medical, Brigham and Womans, Children's Hospital all located within a mile or 2. All the local stations are providing non-coverage. The area is also home to several major universitys and colleges and some of them were evacuated. The area is still "shut down" as a crime scene. Lot's of confusion in Boston and I guess it will take time to sort it all out.

Last night we had a really bad storm and a bad tornado touched down about 10 miles from us. I haven't heard if there was any damage or not.
Bob's right calf is still knotted up and cramping so we skipped the fitness center today and I did my at home exercises.
Hope everyone has a great day.

It's been a strange spring, that's for sure. Last year we went from a mild winter right into summer. It felt like we just skipped spring. This year it is feeling the same, except we just keep on having winter. Yet, I can feel the angle of sun is different and my crocus are emerging. Yesterday I saw the geese returning and I can hear the spring calls of the birds returning as well so spring is here, it is just so darned cold and windy!
Update on the orthopedic evaluation/recheck. My rotator cuff continues to plague me and the ortho gave me another cortisone injection (yeah, it hurts), and then I have 7 weeks of PT followed by an other eval with the ortho. He said if I don't improve enough, I'm a candidate for surgery to repair the damage in my shoulder. At least I know I am moving in the right direction because the shoulder pain makes my arm pretty useless now and I'm tired of it.

So I am going back to the orthopedist on Monday. My shoulder has stopped feeling better and is just in a "holding pattern" of pain. I'm not sure what the next step is at this point. I've done the injection thing and it did help after the pain subsided, but there is still pain and I've lost mobility as well. I'm kinda bummed out about this because it hurts to walk as well as hurting just to do normal stuff...like sleeping, dressing, cleaning, backing my car into or out of the driveway, scratching the itch on my back. I'm fortunate that I have excellent mobility in the other shoulder and I can pretty much reach a troublesome "itch" on most points on my back with that arm. I had that same mobility with the other arm as well before I took that fall and damaged the shoulder. I never really gave a lot of thought to how much my arms were involved in proper walking/running form and it hurts to walk because I swing my arms which involves the shoulder and leads to pain. I'm hoping the doctor has some suggestions. I need my endorphins!

Happy Thursday and Happy Spring everyone! Wouldn't know it is spring by looking out my window. Lots of snow...more coming tonight but when I go outside, I can feel the change in the angle of the sun (when it is visible, at least), my crocus keeps trying to pop up (but gets buried again) and the birds are returning and the buds on my trees and plants are swelling! It's all good. Hope you are all enjoying life and the renewal that is spring, my favorite season, though I love them all.

Thanks Gem - making some consistent improvements - just need to stick with them.

Hang in there with your injuries and respiratory - they make the exercise a challenge.

Hello Shark! You have been missed! Looking forward to watching to meet your goals again! You always do and with a good deal of sense and a sense of humor. I've missed your contributions here. You have wonderful insight and have always been very supportive and helpful to me and others on this team, and probably other teams as well.
I've had a series of physical "challenges" the past few months. I finally went to an orthopedic surgeon to see what I could do to fix the pain in my knees. I have some arthritic changes that he said I was too young to have and he gave me an injection in my knees which after 6 weeks actually helped me to get some comfort when walking. While enjoying my faster walking speed on my way back from voting in November, I tumbled and tore up my shoulder. I couldn't move it without a great deal of pain. The surgeon at first thought I'd need surgery, but we decided to try an injection and more conservative treatments first. I was to go back to him if it didn't get better. The injection helped a bit so I figured I would see him after I got back from Florida mid January. I got pneumonia and that put everything on hold. The pneumonia exacerbated my asthma and I'm still dealing with it. My arm is still painful so I have to go back to the surgeon to see what is next with that. It's amazing how much arm movement is used with walking and how painful walking can be when the shoulder is hurting. Ah well, and so it goes. Chin up, shoulders back and soldier on!

Gem,

Hope you are well - back for another round of health improvement. Exercising reasonably and eating too much will lead to weight gain over time - and I have been gone for a while.

But I have new data and a new target and a physical in August - so six months to see what I can do if I employ the knowledge I already have. Now for the renewed discipline.

I will be around - I always do better when participating on Spark.

emoticon Shakes! There are a lot of tools for measuring progress. Don't battle the scale, it is just a tool. It is not your judge or jury. As long as you stay on program, you will succeed!

Hi
Been dealing with the battle of scale. My scale keeps increasing my weight & no loss; today I picked up tape measure. To my amazement...I have lost inches!! Not real sure what has happened; but glad I didn't quit! and I thought I hated the tape measure....go figure!

If diamond dust is ice fog or snow fog, we're getting some tonight. I won't be able to see it because if it comes, it would be well after dark. Blizzard expected today....or as the weather channel calls it "Nemo". I live right in the bullseye of the greatest snowfall expected...30"+. It's coming down steady right now and has been intensifying and there is a bit of wind, but right now it is just like the usual snowstorms we get. The big stuff is supposed to come in after dark. Why do all the big winds and storms have to be overnight when I can't see them and when I am supposed to sleep? It's next to impossible to sleep when the wind is slamming against my house and that is what it sounds like....someone slamming the house. The good thing is my kids who live on the coast where flooding is expected will be staying with us for the duration. They will be safe with us. I worry about my son. He is a paramedic and he has a 24hour shift which just happens to be today through tomorrow, the worst of the storm. Hopefully people will stay off the roads and leave it open for emergency vehicles and personnel as well as letting the plows do their jobs. I got my generator ready just in case the power drops. I'm on a private well so when the power goes, we lose our water too. We got the generator after we lost power for 4 days after a hurricaine. We are ready so bring it on!

The Diamond Dust I have seen but only because I created it. Jet engines are loud and they usually require we run them in what is called a hush house at nught. People will actually move in next to the base, sign the paper saying they know they are in a noise hazzerd area, then complain about the noise (especially at night) The hush house works like a silencer on a gun. We pull the plane in and they close the doors. Air comes in special vents in the doors, wind tunnels around the jet, and out a long tube behind the jet. When it is just about to snow, right at freezing, or below freezinf with low humidity we can still make it snow in the hush house. This is because the moving air gets colder than the air outside. The first time I saw this I was shocked. Snow just started to appear out of the air around me, then move around the jet and out hte back tube. Once, it was suppose to start snwing aroung 3 am. We pulled the jet in around 12 and it looked like a white out blizzerd for about 10 min. in there. It is just one of the many experiences I would not trade from my time in the Navy.

I have dealt with up to 20 below and have pictures of sledding in the swiss alps. Me and my friends all had ice in our hair. It was one of the most awsomist trips I have taken. On the other hand I worked outside for 14 years no matter the weather. People started to call me a ninja due to my outfit. I am from the deep south. I appreciate 100 deg. weather way more that anything under 60. Yes I wore a snowsuit at 60. So when it got below freezing, only my eyes were not covered in neoprine, fleece, leather, or all three.

SPEAKING OF WIERD WEATHER, Florida will rain daily around the same time for 30 min. without a cloud in the sky. S.E. Texas will develop clouds, have a downpoor, and clear up to cloudless again in about 15 min. Spain had the wierdest with a lingering mist. One day I was walking home from work and it was raining/misting. It was not really falling down or lingering in the air. If you stood still would would just bearly get damp. If you moved you would get soaked. You could see it both comming down and floating. It was not a fog, mist, or rain really but a combo of all of them. I have seen and experienced severe weather but it is the wierd that is more memorable. Any one else have wierd weather expirences?

We had a warm, rainy day today to be followed by a real windy night, a small amount of wind damage as we usher the cold back. A real "mixed bag".

Mixed types of weather today. We had snow which turned to freezing rain and iced up the roads. I'm not doing a lot of "outside" stuff for the time being anyway, but my DH went skiing today and I was a bit worried. I worry that he could fall and be injured, but today I also worried about the drive to and from the slopes. He's fine, but I worry anyway.
My DD brought over my almost 4 month old grandson today, which was nice. I've been advised by my doctor to not touch the baby or get too close to him, unless I wear a mask to keep the pneumonia germs away from him. But, hey, I can look at him anyway. I finished the antibiotics today...it's the second course of them. Hopefully i won';t need to go for a 3rd round with them. Fever is gone and the cough is not a severe as it had been so I know what we've done so far has been working. I just hope it is enough and no pheumonia is left.

I'm not bored....I'm still trying to get over pneumonia. It is an energy zapper for sure.

I just noticed that we are 440 members today! emoticon I remember when we were 7 members when I first joined the team. I wasn't the leader, just a member. My how we have grown (and shrunk, I hope).
