Thanks for your kind words Patty. I know this could be the type of thing that would stop any other "diet" cold. But the support here just keeps me lifted and determined.
I did do quite a bit reading on the web today about OAB. I learned some things, then I read things that totally confused me. So I have decided to consult a very dear friend who is into natural healing and is very well versed on medical issues. I don't want to do anything stupid.
Must move on so I get done here. Very tired again tonight.

Pat,
It is possible that you really haven't gained 6 lbs. You may have gained some weight from the meds, but perhaps not as much as you fear. Scales are a snapshot only. I get on the scale each morning as soon as I get up. I watch for trends. If it goes up or down one day, I note it but don't worry about it. If it continues either up or down (I'm trying to mainatain now),over a couple of days then I need to take some action. It is normal for weight to fluctuate a couple of pounds each day. One of the problems I had before was weighing myself once a week. I never saw the trends and I got really discouraged. That didn't happen this time. I'm not saying you didn't gain weight, but it may not be as bad as you think. Even if you did gain it, you lost it before and you can do so again.
We are here to support each other so vent away! I'm happy to hear you aren't so discouraged that you are giving up. All of us are winners on this team so I'm not surprised, just happy!

How sad to have to post this when all the revelry from last week is still so fresh. I was shocked to see a 6 lb. gain this morning. While I know I was far from having a perfect week, I honestly don't think it was that bad. I really believe that it has a lot to do with the new medication Dr. put me on. I've had exactly 7 doses since last weigh-in. I struggled all through Aug. trying to lose and it occured to me that I was on similar medication during that time. Then I ran out & chose to wait until I saw the Dr. before I did a refill because of other side affects that were quite bothersome. It was during this time of no meds that I had a 5 lb. loss. Now this past week, I'm back on meds and now this huge gain too! Seems fishy!
Now I'm hoping this is temporary and things will even itself out. But I obviously will be watching & I'm going to be extra careful with my food posting to be as accurate as possible.
While none of this is fun to experience, I think I'll be okay (no eating frenzy or anything like that). I am determined to do all I can to overcome this obstacle too.
Thanks for letting me vent! (I guess you really didn't get a choice!) LOL

Congratulations again Lauren! You've done great, and you are sounding like your old self already. WooHoo!

Thanks for bringing the thread up. I'm pleased to announce a 5 lb. loss for this week. Actually, only 3.5 of it is new weight because of last weeks gain.

You are very welcome and I wish you had known about it before too...I would bet my last breath that you would have def avoided this surgery. I'm glad the other people in your other group are discovering it and it will certainly save some of them. I'm glad you are going to try it post-op. You'll heal faster and better...I'm sure of it.

Alex, thank you so much for that information about George's. This isn't the first time this week that I've heard about this brand. I belong to the SCD-IBD Yahoo Forum (if I have all of that info right!), anyway, even though it's a product considered
"illegal" for folks following the SCD diet, members are starting to use it anyway because of the positive results reports coming back to the Forum from those that have.

I just wish I'd known about it before they determined that the surgery had to be done. I would have tried it. I don't know if it would have made a difference in whether I needed the surgery, or not, but it would have been good to know either way.

I will definetely try it after the recovery. Thank you again for the information.

Paleorchid, please do check it out. Those testimonials are just incredible and I had to try it...had nothing to lose, and with the first swallow, I could feel the difference and that's no lie. You only need an ounce or two a day so it doesn't take a lot to work. I swear by it.

Poor Lauren! I really feel for you. I've had some digestive area problems for many years too but I seem to be on the mend now. I cut out all of my allergy foods and once I dropped the sugar that seemed to help a lot too. My last episode was back in June...I was sick as a dog..couldn't work, couldn't eat. They had me on that B.R.A.T diet...bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. Even that didn't help very much but you know what did? Aloe Vera Juice! Yep, I was proactive and started searching things out on the internet and I knew Aloe was a good healer and I googled it and discovered what I now call a miracle in a bottle, George's Aloe Vera Juice. I tell you, that stuff worked wonders on me and now I have no problems. Of course, I continue to avoid all of the stuff that I should but all of the cramping and soreness and other unmentionable stuff that go along with digestive problems are completely gone. Lauren, I would HIGHLY recommend this product. It heals the entire digestive tract. Perhaps after your surgery you can check it out. Go to Amazon.com and search it out and then read the testimonials...it will sell it for you. I still use it even though I'm feeling t-rrific! Oh and it tastes just like spring water...absolutely delicious!

Hi Dorthy,

Thanks for letting me know that. Yes, they did say no red and no purple. We went to Walmart and Publix yesterday to find more jellos, but all we could get was Mango, lemon, and lime. I didn't get the orange flavor because it was too close to red, I thought. The mango is a lightish yellow color, and really has a pleasant taste.

Today I woke up with a really bad headache and much weaker and dizzyish, so this is not going to be a piece of cake. Whew...

Lauren, I talked with my mothers neighbor and she had part of her intestines removed. They did the same thing for her. Its to make sure your system is totally cleaned and when you take the other medicine to clean finally. There will not be as much so to speak clean.
Did they tell you not to have anything RED color in your liquids?
She remembered that because she only liked red jello.

Ouch, Lauren that is a horrible thing to have to be going through. I can't even imagine. I just hope it all works out for the best for you. I guess they know what they are doing by keeping you on this diet but darn it seems extreme. I'll have you in my thoughts. emoticon

Dorthy, I do not have a clue why they are doing it this way. I had to stop all "regular" food last night, and I'm only allowed liquids that can be seen through until Sunday night, then nothing. So my choice (little choices that there are) has been to have chicken broth, diet 7Up and diet Jello, diet because of too much sugar concerns. Although the yearly test they do on me (of which the name escapes me right now) came back and was good, I'm still very careful about how much I consume.

I started out this morning thinking "okay, I can do this" but right now, at 10:08 pm, I'm starving, my stomach is hurting, I'm starting with a headache, and I'm a little bit dizzy and weak.

And the next phase hasn't even started yet. Tomorrow evening (Saturday) I take the first of two doses of Fleet Phospho-soda, by mouth, to completely clean the colon out. I'm beginning to be afraid that I may not be walking into the hospital Monday under my own power. emoticon

I know. My biggest concern is that it could be some kind of cancer. It runs rampant in my family. The last time something like this happened I was simply told it was because I was obese even though there were no other tests done. Thank goodness I do not see that doctor anymore.

Lauren you can't eat from last night(Thursday) until after surgery on Monday? How are you suppose to get enough vitamins and minerals in to keep everything working properly and not get ill before then?

Orchid, If you don't get the answers to what is happening and they just want to do BC. You might want to check with a second GYNO/ob. Please don't wait to long. I'm not trying to scare you but there are many things that could be a problem.

It will get better! I keep telling myself that. I may end up in the hospital for a blood transfusion here soon if I do not stop bleeding before my next appt. I imagine they will stick me full of birth control shots yet again. I have a new doc so I am hoping to appeal to her about finding out what is causing this.

Hang in there, Tonya, give your body a chance to finish up doing whatever it is right now. It'll get back on track. One day at a time.

I just got back from pre-op, and since I'm a hard stick for IV's and blood draws, even though I had to stop eating last night at midnight, and won't be able to eat again until the surgery is over Monday, I was able to drink diet 7 up.

I had to drink huge volumes of it in order for them to be able to stick me. Long story behind all of this is that I gained. Figures! Can't eat, and still gain. emoticon

Be patient, PaleOrchid--I'll come off eventually. Check to see if you are having more sodium than usual--I think that helps to retain water. Otherwise, you are a woman and we all hold onto water weight some times

Tere--We are already proud of you. I'll bet if you took your measurements, you'd find a difference. It's not about the pounds--it's about the health benefits. We are all reaping those benefits on this team. Every one of us. YAY FOR US!

You know, I've never checked in a drugstore for it but you probably could find it there. I get mine online. Just "google" Progensa 20 and see if any stores carry it..they probably do because I've seen it on Amazon.com also. It's not prescription.

Alex,
You've got my interest. Is that product by prescription or can I just purchase it over the counter. I feel like I am taking a whole lot of self created showers every single night. UGH!

It's okay, Bee, you're amongst friends, it's not just you. Even with getting sick, I still managed to increase my weeks calorie burn by over 200 calories, stayed with the eating plan to a T, yet Monday, on weigh-in, I stayed the same! Bummer! I was so disappointed. But, then I thought, hey, it's better than gaining, and next week will be better.

Hang in there, it's gonna come off! emoticon

Oh my dear Gemstone, I can relate to the night sweats. I had them too until I started using this wonderful natural progesterone cream called Progensa 20! It's wonderful...I'm afraid to take the synthetic hormones so I took it upon myself to do it naturally. It's great...soy is also good.

yep--I sleep like that as well. I still wake up frequently during the night, but I fall asleep really quickly and I feel far more rested when I awaken the morning following exercise late at night the evening before. What wakes me are the "night sweats"--either a blood glucose problem or something that many "young" ladies get in their 50's.

Hi Ladies,

As far as sleeping after exercise, I sleep like a log. Usually I go to bed almost immediately after I workout and never wake up until the alarm (which was not happening before I started walking). I have never slept so good as I do now.

Just do it the evening before a day when you don't really have to get up at any particular time in the morning incase you find that you are "normal" and do have trouble falling asleep afterwards. That way it won't matter and you can just catch your sleep a bit later that you usually do.

I've decided I am a mutant. Nothing about me seems to work the way I've been told it would. I sleep pretty well after exercise. I just stay up long enough after I'm done to let my hair dry after I shower--that's about an hour or so. Then I sleep really well.

I'm another one that is starting to exercise quite late. Last night was the 2nd time within a week that I did WATP between 11:00 and 12:00.

Today's weigh-in is a dissappointment. I didn't lose anything but stayed the same.

I know I didn't move enough and must keep working on that.

Good luck to the rest of you this week.

Alex,
I'm so relieved to hear I am not the only ne up at midnight doing my WATP pounding. My husband looks at me like I am crazy but I find I crave the exercise. It's the endorphins-- they help me to sleep and after I exercise I do sleep well.

My daughters get a good giggle when I start walking in the house. Mostly because my 1 year old tries to keep up with me the entire time. We walk from the back to the front of the house then circle in the kitchen and living room. I think he thinks its a game, lol. What could be better than having a child grow using walking for the fun of it.

Oh, okay, Alex! We do the Leslie Sansone series too, and they ARE truly awesome! Only thing is we have a tenant upstairs, and even though he can keep some odd hours, I think David and I make way too much racket doing the tapes for that time of night! Hahahaha...the two of us can stir up some dust, let me tell ya!

I'm really serious about trying to get outside to break it up. Course, now, David may not be in agreement with me. I don't know, he may not think it's safe enough. Ahha...I can always drag him outta bed at dawn! Oh, I'm bad!

Anyway...wherever we are, house or sidewalk, we'll all be walkin' together in spirit! And besides, Fall and Winter is a comin' my favorite time of the year!! emoticon

Oops! Let me clarify, Lauren...I don't walk outside. I do the Walk Away The Pounds dvd's inside in air-conditioned comfort. I know it isn't as nice as being out in nature but when you live in hot climates as we do sometimes it just isn't do-able. I really enjoy the workouts and believe me, you will sweat like you have never sweat in your life!!! You will lose pounds and inches and have fun doing it. It's actually the one exercise that I will do. Look forward to it every night. The only time I miss is when I'm not feeling well. You can find the dvd's most anywhere I would think. If you are familiar with Netflix, you can rent them there and try them out and then buy if you decide you like it. You can google Walk Away The Pounds and it will give you a link to the website where you can read testimonials and even get video previews of some of the workouts. It's a great program!
