Hi Lauren,
I'm sorry your pain got worse but at least now you have more information and can move ahead with getting the problem fixed. I don't know anything about diverticulosis other than what it is and I know that what you eat can impact it in some way.
I am hoping your happy face will be back here in August too!
I remember when I was hopitalized and unable to eat for a week (on an IV for all nutrition) a few years ago. I was watching (ok drooling over) what everyone else was eating. I would drag my wretched, drugged body down to the nearest scale to see if I lost weight. I figured I deserved something for feeling so miserable and not being able to eat. I never even lost a pound and to add insult to injury, I actually gained a few! I never figured out what they put in that IV. You have lost 5.5--granted this isn't the way you wanted to do it but now all you have to do is continue the trend once you are well. It won't be long!

Take care and I hope you have pain free days.

Hello Everyone,

Well, my resolve to be online more was short-lived. I got home tonight from being in the hospital all week. Was admitted because of the pain. Good story is that they did the cardio and gastro work-up there while I was in. Bad news is I still have to have the surgery. They cleared me cardio so calling the surgeons office Monday to have it scheduled.

Interesting note: They did the colonoscopy and were very surprised to find that this time, there was no inflammation. They can't tell me why the pain got so bad (doctors only practice) but they also can't tell me why the inflammation, which has been present every other time, isn't there. But I can. Only thing I can think of is the diet. Now if ONLY it could take away the little colon outpouches (diverticulum or li or whatever the hey they're called). They said they've spread throughout the entire tract. Oh well, never let it be said that I do anything the easy way!

Enough about illness, makes me ill! I've seen how the team has grown! That's terrific! You all are doing great, and I'm so happy to see new faces. I hope by the end of August MY happy face is back up there!

Oh yeah, hospital scale says I lost another 5.5 lbs. Sheeeshhh...this is NOT the way to be doing it. I look like a gaunt, grey-faced, stringy-haired old hag. EEECCHHH...disgusting!

Woohoo...I seem to have discovered a tad of my humor. Thought I'd lost it out there in the big bad world.

Take care all, and keep up the good work!!
Lauren

Hi Lauren,
I have to agree with everyone here. It is great to see you posting. I hope the "diet" works for you. Sometimes, changing the way we eat and the foods we eat can make a big difference. I am a diabetic and I found that by making changes in the kinds of food I ate and the timing of when I eat them, I was able to manage my diaetes without medication. I hope that soon the good days, outnumber the bad days until you only have good ones! Take care of yourself. We'll be here for you when you return.

Thank you, everyone, for your support, prayers, and encouragement. It helps me to cope, and I'm very grateful. My cardio and gastro consults are August 14'th. While waiting for them to reschedule the surgery, we're trying, with limited success, to hold the spreading abdominal inflammation at bay. One day's good, one's bad, we never know how it's going to go.

5 days ago I came online to SP to read a post notification from a member of the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases team I belong to. The member spoke about a special diet helping her. I emailed her, and she immediately directed me where to go for info.

That done, while waiting to get the book (Breaking The Vicious Cycle), I removed the "illegal" foods from my diet. I'm going to blog as often as I can, in the hopes that someone else going through any of these diseases can benefit from my experiences. It's a shockingly different way of eating. I don't know that it will work, but it's helping to make me feel as though I have more control, while I'm waiting.

I can't exercise yet, but I hope to be able to come online more and be as active as possible on my team, and the others I belong to. I'm so anxious for this to be behind me, so I can rejoin the human race!

On a lighter note, I lost 5.5 pounds, which was completely unexpected and such a surprise. I'm sure not complaining.

Thank you all again, so much,
Lauren
