I think that's a great idea. I hope your physician embraces that idea.

Gemstone, It's only 10 lbs. now because of the almost 30 I've taken off in the last 3 months +. But I want him to see that part of it too. Actually, I'm hoping to be brave enough to ask him if I could post a regular weigh-in through his e-mail. I think that could create some real accountability.

Cindy, that's a really neat way to do it. One thing about me down through the years is that I allowed very little pictures to be taken of me, because I hated so bad what I saw. But I've gone back into my "stash" and found a few ones of me that I couldn't avoid getting taken, and I was smart enough to take a HORRID one of me in February after I'd restarted the program the end of January. So now I finally have a "beginning" one, and I've been taking ones since then. I know EXACTLY how you feel about remembering how badly you felt, cause the one taken in February says it all in that regards. I LOOK horrid, and I FELT horrid! Maybe someday I'll get brave enough to put them in my photos on my Spark Page.

I have a page of pictures of me at my highest weight. In my mind I visualize not so much what I'll look like at goal, but how I'll feel. I look at the old me and I KNOW I never want to go back there! And remind myself how easy it is to let it slowly creep back up. Those pictures remind me of that because I've lost all this weight before years ago. It's going to be a sweet day when I have those "after" pictures!

Life is a like your best friend, some days you just want to hug it and other days you need to kick it's butt:P

I think you have a great idea bringing the binder with you to the doctor. You may find that he has some suggestions for tweaking your diet and exercise program or will just be blown away by how much you have accomplished. The last time you saw the doctor was 3 years ago--10 lbs. in three years is not so bad. I was able to put on 10 in a month for a while. The point is, you are dong something about it and you are bringing tangible evidence of your new resolve. The doctor will likely be happy to be your partner in good health. It's all good. I've been on meds for high blood pressure for many, many years. Now that I've lost a substantial amount of weight, my blood pressure is dropping and at my last appointment the meds were cut in half. I avoided the cholesterol medication by changing my diet as well. People can be quite thin and still need blood pressure medication or cholesterol lowering medication. My husband watches what he eats and has been slender all his life. He also exercises regularly. He has to take cholesterol lowering medication. A large part of it is genetic. ok. so now I made a longer response to your long answer. Bottom line, relax, be proud of what you have accomplished and take it one day at a time.

I'm putting together a simple binder that contains some of my food & exercise records and Sparks recipes. On the front I have the catalog picture of the bathing suit I own - and I'm looking for the day that I look similar to that. I also have a cute e-card I received from a Sparks buddy. This is going with me to my Dr. on Tuesday. My 1st visit to him in about 3 yrs. (I've been a very bad girl!) I just want him to see how hard I'm trying. The sad part is my weight is up from my last visit by at least 10 lbs. Thank goodness I've lost and he will have a cow when he finds out what my high got to. I'm trying to avoid medications for blood pressure and maybe high cholesterol. I have some moles and spots on my skin that I need checked out. That is what got me motivated to finally make the appointment to go in.
Sorry, that was a long answer to a simple question.

That's what's so beautiful about this, Tonya. Learning how to make this journey a lifestyle takes away the fear. It gives you back your power.

We're going to have days we flub up. Imperfection is a human condition. But beating yourself up for being human will no longer happen. You'll forgive yourself, and go on as if it never happened.

For me, my journey's helped life become real. I know that sounds strange. How could I live to be 54 and not already know that? I wish I knew. I was living in a fantasy world of "tomorrows," then all of a sudden, tomorrows were here, and I was unprepared. Belonging to SP has prepared me. I'm not afraid anymore. I'm bold and excited, and you will be too. Once you get this way of life under your skin, you don't ever want to go back.

Hopefully it will keep me motivated to not let all the weight come back on once I get where I want. Thats what I'm most frightened of.

Tonya, that's a wonderful idea! And what a good name. You're right, it is like fighting to come out of a cocoon, isn't it? I never thought of it like that before. And that's something that you'll have to cherish for years to come. The best part of it will be looking back through it over the years at all the hard work you put in to reaching your goal. emoticon

I created or rather in the process of creating a scrap book that I use for this purpose. I called it butterflies...cause it feels like I am fighting my way out of a cocoon sometimes. I started it with before pictures and humorous things I found in magazines as well as any recipies(sp?)or motivating articles I find.
I just add whatever suits me at the time basically but it tends to serve its purpose and give me something to do when I'm obsessing over food.

yeah--we've gotten some pretty close lightning strikes today (and yesterday more so). I find them disquieting--to say the least.

Anyway, sounds like you and Lauren have created something great for a couple. I really like your idea of doing a different one for each month. That keeps it fresh.
I do like the look of the stars around my board and I love it when I see/hear my family members counting off those stars in wonder. They do it sometimes when they think I am not paying attention--but I am--and I love it!
Mine is right on the refridgerator, a major focal point in most homes--especially in ones with young teens/young adults with healthy appetites.

I did get to do my visual motivator, as a matter of fact, Lauren and I did a "mutual" one early this morning, sitting at the table. It's a big posterboard, marked off in days, for the month of July, and we're going to do one for each month. Obviously alot of what we had planned to do for the month got waylaid, but there's still time to do well, especially if she continues to respond good to the meds. The daily goals we want to achieve are up there, where we'll put a star for the ones we made each day. And Patty, had to snatch your idea of putting stars for each pound lost. Both of us were tickled by that one, so thought we'd do it to. And you're right, all those stars look neat, Lauren's half on her side of the board, and mine on my side. Gotta run, lightening just cracked through the property like a knife.

I had made a small poster with pictures of places I want to see, a few outfits, my kids, niece & nephew. Words; encourage, strength, goals, success, do it, live, laugh, love.

I have been thinking of doing another one. Now that I have been here awhile.

It's worth SparkPoints so when you make your visual motivator don't forget to claim them. It will boost us on the leaderboards.

One of the suggetions that SparkPeople had when I first started was that I create a visual motivator. I thought it would be interesting if we listed what our visual motivators were. If anyone joins here or is already a member and hasn't created one yet, maybe what we post will help generate ideas that others could use.
Mine is connected with the turtle on my ticker and the confucious statement in my signature. I created a small poster of the turtle and put the statement directly under it. I laminated it and put it up on my refridgerator door where I can see it. Around the edges I reward myself with a star for each 5 lbs I lose. I love to see the stars accumulate and I can easily see how far I've come. What is yours?
