I like to walk to music so I usually start with some music that has a mild to moderate pace (about 3mph). I do this for about 5 minutes and then I gradually increase my pace until I get to 4mph. I've been doing it a while so I know which music gets me at that pace. When I get to within 5 minutes of the end of my workout, I switch back to the slower music and walk for 5 minutes. Then I do the stretching. I only stretch at the end. Some people like to warm up by marching in place and then stretching and then walking. Some like to walk for 5 minutes and stop and stretch and then continue. I've tried all different ways and what worked for me was what I described as my routine. I use yoga type stretches.

I'm new to the whole walking thing. Well, not that new, I'm 31 so I've been walking for a little bit,lol. But the whole taking walks, and walking for exercise thing is new for me. I've always been super lazy, and I am now paying the price for that. I can't start actually going on the walks for a couple more weeks, due to a sprained ankle, but I intend to start as soon as I'm healed up. As a noob walker, I need to know the right way to warm up and cool down. I know it's a bunch of stretching and stuff, but not sure what kind of stretches I need to be doing. Any assistance would be super helpful. Thanks in advance :)
