I use my fitbit surge HR now. It tracks steps and movement over an entire day. I had purchased a spark tracker when it came out a few years ago and then a nike fuel band. When the spark tracker was no longer supported, I bought the nike fuel band. When the Nike stopped being supported, I got the fitbit. All 3 track steps, estimated miles (based on steps) and calories. They are not 100% accurate, especially the calories. I aim to do 10,000 steps ;minimum each day and for counting steps, they are fine and the numbers clustered around the same total so for a pedometer, they all did about the same. My spark tracker no longer works reliably, though I still wear it. I am planning to use the Nike until the battery dies. The fitbit is now my primary. There are plenty of free cell phone apps that will act as a GPS too.

endomondo app for your android phone that i found it works using gps. there is a free version and you can purchase the pro version that adds additional features. I use it to track how far i walk and how long and it tracks your walking speed
I have an Omron Walking Style pedometer. It's okay, not entirely accurate but I compensate for that. It gives the total walking steps for the day (just post it before midnight when it clears the entry), the aerobic steps for the day, and the mileage for the day (this is what is not accurate). Inexpensive, durable. It doesn't have a memory chip so when the battery dies, you lose all of your input and have to reprogram.

ESP!! I was just online looking for a pedometer app for my Droid phone. Looks like there are several listed in both the Google Play Store and the Android App Market. Will know more when I get home and try to download there. My phone is not hooked up to the online service here at the office.
I just got back from a short walk and went to look at my steps taken on my trusty old weight watchers pedometer and it was blank! May just need a battery but I've had this for over 3 years and loved it.
Think I will update to my phone if I can find an app that will run when the phone is in idle mode. I've looked at some of the reviews and some of the free apps are also battery drainers for your phone.
Thanks for the post and eager to see what others say. Keep Walking!
