I like the beach, but I really like hiking in an area with minor hills and great scenery. The beach is great to see how far you travel and i like it for that reason.

Have been in some new places & needed to make new routes. My very favorite route is walking on the beach. It's a wonderful way to walk farther than you feel like you're actually walking. emoticon

i used to walk around a park....1 mile loop, wide, clear sidewalks, very level. lately i've been walking around our neighborhood. i like it better because there are elevation changes, so it's kind of like an interval of higher output. i like it less because there are more things to walk into, or sidewalk troubles. i'm sticking with the neighborhood, though. as we get stronger, my friend and i will even be able to walk some serious hills, not just inclines. =)

I've been enjoying my indoor workouts now that the weather has turned colder. I did get out with my DIL and her (our) dog today. The pup likes to sniff everything and "mark" his territory frequently so it's not much of a walk when I go with the dog. He likes his leisurely stroll. It was however a beautiful day and I enjoyed the sunshine and the scenery. We now have a rail trail for walking, jogging and biking. It's a nice safe 4 mile trail and pretty well used.

I had a couple different "round the block" routes that I had mapped out; they were all with sidewalks. Then, we moved (this summer) to where there aren't sidewalks. I had to map out routes that weren't too close to the traffic noise (scared doggy.) After I mapped them out (love that SP route tracker), it made me LOL to find that my routes & destinations were all pretty close to the same odd measurements: .66, 1.14 .... and the like. B/c of the dog, I keep to familiar areas b/c I know where the neighborhood dogs are & aren't. Not everyone keeps them on leashes.

Just found this thread....I vary up the routes. I have a 5.5 mile "around the block" and a couple of 3-4.5 mile routes that are also "around the block". I live in a small town in SE Massachusetts with lots a little back roads and I like to take those. During inclement weather, as defined by me, my "path" is in front of my TV. Leslie Sansone and I walk together. When I am on vacation, my path is wherever my legs will take me.

I actually have three different routes.

First is the Full Circuit. It's a 2-mile walk that loops around the neighborhood and I get to see all the pretty houses for sale. It's for when I'm feeling all gung-ho about exercise.

Second is my Figure 8 route. It's my shortest route for those days I just want to go back to bed but need to get up and go despite that. It reminds me that I want to be healthy, and keep my waist. LOL

Third is the Pac Man route. It's a...well...route that looks like Pac Man. It's my favorite on days I'm in between.

All of them are in the neighborhood, I might branch out when I have more time to explore walking areas, but for now, I love the routes I have.

I usually walk around my neighborhood, which is pretty scenic with lots of landscaping. When I get bored with that, there are trails nearby. And if I get bored with that, there's a park not far where I can walk laps around the perimeter of it (obviously not a very large park). I usually try to avoid using the car, but I have done that to take me to a new scenic trail. I live in the Washington, DC area so it's always nice to walk along the Potomac River.

Is there a particular path or scenic area you walk?
