I have started to walk my dogs regularly. I sold most my excersize equipment this weakend because I am not useing it. It was a hard decision. I have a crush injury to my ankle. I now have permanant nerve damage and running causes my ankle to swell and become more painfull. I can bike though and I am thinking of getting a stationary bike for my house. For now I use a trainer at the Gym on base has been teaching me other excersizes I can do that also help. Walking is great but I still needed more. It may also depend on how much you move around during your normal everyday activities including at work.
Walking is good as long as your consistant and set a goal for how many to walk per week. Always start out slow and the more you walk the further you will want to go it becomes addicting. I just love walking and since I have been eating right the weight is falling right off it is awesome.

This is my opinion only based upon what has worked for me. Walking will work if it is done at a high enough intensity or long enough and you watch what you eat. Add some muscle building and you will see faster results. The walking should be in addition to what you would normally do anyway, not supplant it.
