Not a rant, very true, a stride analysis is the same as a gait analysis. A lot of times you can go to Dick's or Finish line and get the same shoes that you need, but for less, especially with a coupon. That is how I always get my Asics.

I have gone through a lot of pain because I had the wrong shoes (and because I have a bad peroneal tendon in my right foot.)

If you have any foot pain get at least a gate analysis done (find a good running store) and make sure you have the right type of shoe. I learned the hard way that "stability" shoes are designed to push your foot to the outside not stabilize the foot in the center. Neutral shoes keep the foot in a neutral position and do not push to the outside. If you have high arches you likely need a neutral shoe. Flat feet normally need stability. If you have pain you need good knowledgable advise and you can't get it at Kohl's - good prices but you may end up hurting yourself because you have the wrong shoe.

Sorry for the rant but I have cuased unnecessary damage to my foot because I tried to get the proper shoe and ended up with the opposite - and wore that type of shoe for 5 years before figuring out the problem.

Good luck.

I had a stride analysis down as I have problems with my feet. I wear Asics 2130s. I wear them to work and exercise in.

I do too, Trish and I'm diabetic with neuropathy. The advice is not to go barefoot, but I do it because it feels fine to me.

thanks, I mostly go barefoot, and I must admit, I often do the workouts barefoot.

So long as they are comfy,it's all good. The only expensive shoes I have ever bought were my Nurses shoes. Other than that I'm rather thrifty and I wear them 'till they are falling apart. Even then I keep them for out in the yard walking. Yes,I am a pack rat (OCD)but gettin' better :). Walk on Troops! emoticon emoticon Gobble Gobble

I prefer Nike's and I usually wear them for 6 months, any longer and I get blisters, and those are nasty to deal with.
I can walk through a cheap pair of walmart shoes in a month.
I wear my nike's for only my planned walks, with my ipod and my nike + system.
for my every day wear (I am a flylady fan) I wear curves cross trainers.
those are from Avon and cost me about $45 a pair.

I tend to wear mine longer than I should. It seems like once I have them broken in, it's time to change them. The ones I have now are pretty ragged. I think they are supposed to be changed every 3-6 months depending upon how used they are--I'm not good at that recommendation. I watch for sales or I search the internet for the least expensive source for the style I like. $45.00 is about the most I pay--I think I may have managed as little at 35.
Leslie Sansone is good for me because it keeps me occupied while I am walking.

(chuckle) Sounds like me. Get bored easily. We do have a Kohl's here in NC. I usually get a crosstrainer, also. It's the only pair that holds up to my abuse!

I think the right kind of shoes are the ones that give your feet support for the kind of exercise you are planning, feel good and look good (to you). I used to be a Reebok lover until I discovered New Balance. Now I pretty much stick with those. I buy them at Kohl's. I don't know if Kohl's is a national chain but New Balance is like Reebok--everywhere. Just be sure that whatever you get is for the type of exercise you plan. I usually get cross trainers because I get bored easily and like to do different kinds of activity.

how much do you pay for them and how often do you replace them? I find I kill a pair in three to six months, but I keep on wearing them until my feet cannot take them anymore. My last pair, I tried to be very thrifty and brought them at WalMart. (I don't recommend this.)

I usually get Avias for around $45. I plan to pick up my miles, so does anyone have any recommendations?
