I get through the days pretty well--then night comes and the peanut butter calls. I have got to stop answering!

This is a hard weekend, I had to fight cravings all day yesterday. Had a bowl of cereal with 2% milk last night.

I was told I could have fruit too and to try it with a protein, but for me it didn't work. My body is just wierd I think. I've been able to tolerate up to maybe 10 raspberries or a tablespoon of shredded apple in a salad, but that's the extent of fruit for me. I've accepted that I can't eat fruit--at least not for now, but I can eat tomato now and peppers and the red, orange and yellow peppers are pretty sweet so I'm ok with it.

Linda a apple is better than junk food. Also if all you had was an apple or two that is okay. When I get in to mindless eating that goes on all evening, that can be my downfall. With my cottage cheese, the other fruits, I like with it are strawberries or green grapes.

Patty at the diabetic clinic I was told to eat my fruit with a protein and it works for me. It doesn't raise my blood sugar. It doesn't take very much protein either only a ounce or two. I like to chop my apple in to cottage cheese, or have it with a ounce of chicken, or cheese.

Bananas I rarely eat, I won't eat 1/2 a one because the other 1/2 goes brown. I just can't leave 1/2 a banana sitting there. Even if I eat 1/2 a one no matter what else I eat with it my blood sugar goes up.

Tonight I'm not hungry, I love it when that happens.

Now an apple is a good choice--I can't eat them though--all fruit seems to wreak havoc with my blood sugar.

My night time eating is getting more healthful but still happening. Last night it was an apple cut into real thin slices..at least it was crunchy.

lol Patty, sometimes that peanut butter tastes soooo good. You might have to remove it from the house for a bit.

I tried the toothbrushing but I still went for the peanut butter last night. Argh!

Night time eating has always been huge problem for me. My mind seems to think it is a good time to have chocolate. When the Biggest Loser was on tv all we got was local advertisements for all the junk food places in town over and over again. I find brushing my teeth helps also doing some of my hobbies like cross stitching. I'm going to start some scrap booking so that should keep me busy some evenings and away from the food.

I have issues with the night time eating. Think my brain tells me I need potato chips to munch on to help me relax. I have done the teeth brushing and it does work. My problem is my body heads to the kitchen rather than the bathroom. Doing better tho' and herbal tea has helped too.

Well, I discovered that when I am in pain--I lose control of eating. Nutz---and lots of them. I think it is because I am mad about falling apart. grrrrrrrr.

Hi PJ,
I think I had created a goal thread under 2008 resolutions or something like that. I'll go look around for it. I recently "restickied" some threads. It's fine to post it here too!
I am so happy to see you again! Welcome home.

I'm backkkkkkk

I have missed you all so much.

Its been a tough winter for me. I gained 20lbs back and started smoking again. Blahhhhh

But I'm back and starting slowly. In March I managed to get 6 of the 20 lbs off without much effort so in April I'm going to put more effort into it and try to lose a few more.

I didn't see a goal thread so I'm going to post my few little goals for April here.
1) drink 3 bottles of water each day
2) eat a healthy breakfast
3) walk 30 minutes 3 times a week. (Mon Tues Thurs)

I have a work out buddy now. *Grins*

Make your dreams your Reality!

I like the tooth brushing idea. Switching to a channel without adverts is a wonderful idea! I don't watch TV too much here so adverts are not a big issue for me at least. It seems that all that is on these days here are reality shows or Crime shows and their "spin offs". I don't like any of them. The shows that get my attention tend to get cancelled and replaced by more of "the same" shows I don't like so my TV viewing is quite limited.
I think my problem is I feel my blood sugar dropping and then I have a conditioned response to get food. It's what got me into trouble in the first place. I also do a lot of mindless eating--I work at the computer and then decide to stretch my legs and I invariably end up in the kitchen and then........It's a terrible habit. I'm not even thinking about what I am doing half the time when I got off looking for food. Anyway, I'm working on day 3 with the time out. I got to stay up later last night before the urge overtook me so I had to go to bed. I will learn...eventually. I may try the tooth brushing idea. I imagine the inconvenience of having to keep on brushing might be a good deterrent.

I BRUSH MY TEETH! I read in an article once that by brushing your teeth you are sending a message to your brain that it is done eating for the night! I do it and it seems to work, if I get the munchies again I just brush again!

My biggest downfall is when watching TV and the adverts come on,all the really naughty pleasures (food that is)LOL. I turn the TV onto the BBC, no ads there so I can't be tempted. emoticon

Putting myself to bed has now worked 2 days in a row. Late last night I caught myself thinking about a little taste of the peanut butter--I opened the jar, I had the spoon ready--and I put it back to walked to my bedroom and put myself to be. I really wanted to play my sims game, but I went to bed. It sounds silly to be "timing" myself out for trying to engage in less desireable behaviors, but it works. My reward is to stay up later playing--and I do it as long as I control what I eat. Two days--it worked--now I have to keep on it. Wish me luck!

My pitfall: salty, crunchy and fatty foods
peanuts, cheese, peanut butter

Current strategy: I put myself in timeout when the urge is too great. Translation: I must go to bed
Status: worked once--will try to continue it tonight.
Strategy: get rid of peanuts and cheese
status: I found other bad stuff to eat--not the best plan--need to revise.

Sometimes--often, actually, I get the late night munchies. I'm guessing I'm not the only one up late at night munching and maybe even doing spark at the same time! So, I'm in need of strategies and support to stop the cycle. So, when you want to munch, come here--I know lots of you are night owls like I am so maybe we can get some "real time" support. And if not, lets post here some ideas and strategies that we can go to instead of feeding the munchies. Post links to articles you find, good snacks, distractions, anything at all that helps.

I'm making this a sticky so it will stay near the top.

Munchies= emoticon zone. So lets emoticon the cycle.
