I load my mp3 player up with what I call classic rock...
AC/DC, Aerosmith, Guns and Roses, White Snake... etc.
Only the upbeat ones. They always seem to make me walk faster... sometimes I can't help but go ahead and start jogging. Because I'm focused on the music... I end up walking further and jogging longer than I would without the music. The really scary part is... I don't hurt afterwards either. go figure!

It seems like we've got similar music tastes. I've got a lot of those songs on my ipod, too. A few songs I've added--Swing Batter by Trace Atkins. It has a great beat for getting the energy up and Taylor Swift's Picture to Burn.

I love my i-pod. My husband was saying he should buy me one for my birthday and I told him I probably wouldn't use it much but I do. I like mostly old rock and roll and some country. I like some Abba too. I agree with the rap-the beat is good but don't like the singing. I use the slower songs for my warm up and cool down.

Jenn I will list what I have on my I-pod, maybe you will like some of them. I will list who sings them but my memory is bad at who sings what. Plus I know some of my spelling of the names will fail me.

I Don't Need a Bed of Roses--Faith Hill?

LadyAnwyn-
I like just about any type of music except rap and country. There are a few country songs I like, but generally, I don't like them. Overall, I have pretty eclectic tastes for music. My kids have introduced me to a lot of music as well and I like most of it. My favorite style is blues--because I think it is the basis for most of the rock and roll style which has evolved over the years. The beat is wonderful.
I will say that rap has a great beat for exercise though--I just wish they'd not "sing" (or recite).

Ah, The Souza marches! If I'm up at 7:15am and have the radio on to one particular station, I get to listen to five minutes of the march of the day. I used to march around the house with my son every morning for that five minutes for quite a long time during his early childhood. Those are very fond memories indeed.

I like ABBA sometimes - certain tunes really hit me just the right way. .38 Special revs me up just fine. So does Earth, Wind, and Fire. There's more, but it all depends on what mood I'm in and for what. It's a music thing, dontchaknow. emoticon

It sounds, Gem, that we have some similar tastes in music!

I've started listening to ABBA and some college marching band music as well. John Phillip Souza marches are particularly good for keeping a steady cadence when walking.

Anything from Off Kilter. They are awesome! When I go outdoors to walk, I fly to that music!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Off_Kilter

From that link, you can read about the group and there are some performances on youtube so you can hear what they sound like. It is celtic rock.

What music do you guys exercise to? I'm looking for new songs for my ipod, but I go blank when it comes time to download them. "Survivor" by Destiny's child is one favorite. Or "Free your Mind" by EnVogue. I also listen to alot of country, but my favortie songs are too slow. I listen to almost every type of music, so any suggestions will help. emoticon
