I haven't been eating before I run because I only have an hour to do it and get home before my husband leaves for work. I hadn't thought of eating a protein bar, that I could do while I'm getting dressed. Thanks for the tip!

LMB100, I'm sorry! I just saw your question. I go to the bathroom right before I run to make sure I'm "empty". I sweat like nobody's business, so I guess I'm sweating instead of having to go potty! LOL I've never stopped a workout to have to go, so it's not a problem for me. :-)

I usually eat an apple or a banana before running, or 2 pieces of toast. Nothing super heavy, then I will come home and eat some cottage cheese or another snack before lunch. I work evening/night shifts so I usually run about 9 or 10 in the mornings. I give myself about 20-30 minutes before running after I eat.

I live in that hot Florida humidity and I am not really a morning person, so to beat the heat, I get out as soon as I can which means only 1/2 banana or some protein shake. I can't run with food in my stomach, so I sometimes have pure carrot juice or chocolate milk instead of the banana. I like to eat oatmeal with cinnamon apples and almonds when I get home.

Southernmel, do you run in the morning or afternoon? I live in Birmingham, AL, and I'm finding it very difficult to run outside in the afternoons right now! This 99 degree+ weather is killing me!

I run early in the morning and eat one banana right after I get up. I take a couple of swallows of water with my morning meds (hey, I am 60+ after all) then have one cup of coffee while I get ready. I take 16 ounces of water with me on the run and will have part of it about halfway through and the rest while I am on my cooldown walk. As soon as I get home I have a Gatorade G3 (jt has protein in it for recovery) while I do my stretching, then eat cereal with almond milk and a scoop of whey protein powder in it. I will also have more water and one or two more cups of coffee before I am cooled down enough to shower..

ANGIEUKFAN07... how do you drink all that water before and during your run and not have to stop to use the bathroom?

I eat very lightly (if at all) before a run. I'm in a hot, humid environment (gotta love Hotlanta, GA!) and get sick if I have too much in my stomach. I always drink plenty of water before running. If I do eat, it's usually some crackers or will sometimes have half of a protein shake.

I try to run in the morning, so I eat a Pure Protein Chocolate Deluxe bar and drink a 16 oz. bottle of water. I drink another bottle of water during my run (treadmill) and after I eat a banana and drink Silk Light Chocolate Soy Milk.

I very rarely eat right before I run. If I'm feeling especially hungry or feel that my blood sugar might be low, I'll drink a cup of skim milk. I don't like to eat food since it would mean my body would have to spend the extra energy to digest the food, so I'll only drink something, which doesn't take nearly as much energy to digest.

For me it depends on WHEN I run. If I run first thing in the morning, then I'll usually run on an empty stomach and eat when the run is over. If I run later in the day, I'll usually eat 1-2 hours before I run. For me, the type of food doesn't really matter - but I usually feel slow and sluggish if I eat foods that are higher in fats before I run. I naturally tend to stick with a higher carb/lower fat diet anyways - so I can usually eat some fruit, veggies or whole wheat pasta 1-2 hours before I run and do great.

Yes, I eat. I have to. When I have an hour to spare, I will cook up some eggs and potato hash browns. I need a good 40min for that to settle before I run.

But if I don't have the time, I grab fruit. 2 pieces and a 1.5litre of water. I don't get all the water in, but I try. I am still looking for a protien to add to this, that won't upset my stomach, be hard to digest, or give me heart burn. I am looking into the soy from Hammer. I've heard it's good and easy to digest - ideal for before and during your run.

If you eat before you run, what do you usually eat, and how long before the run do you eat it?
