I've got bike intervals on my schedule for this evening. Hard gear, 1 min super fast, 1 min recovery, for 45 mins.

Becky, I got a very cheap Danskin two-piece outfit. It had good reviews. I wore it on my bike the other day (very nice, padded bottom), and I wore it in the pool yesterday. I'm checking for chafing in odd places. So far, so good. I need a wetsuit, too. That's a big investment. I'm going to a tri clinic on Feb 16. It's for people who are doing their first tri. I plan to do several of them this year. I really need to get my swim time down. I'm very good at swimming, and I can swim forever. But I'm not fast enough yet.

Good Morning!

Jeri-What kind of Tri suit did you get? I really need to start looking into that stuff too. I don't want to save it all for the last minute. I still need to purchase a wet suit.

I did an hr on the trainer yesterday and now today is suppose to be a run day. No time this morning so I will have to do it tonight. I have to learn to like doing workouts at night because they're going to need to be done at that time periodically. i usually blow them off if I wait. Cold weather ahead for the next couple of days, but a short 1 day warm up on Friday which also happens to be a day off for me so an outside run will be done.

Have a good day everyone!

Half marathon training today called for a group run at 6 AM. That doesn't work for me on a work day, even when working at home, so I got the workout from the coaches: Warm up 1 mile, then 4 reps of run as hard as you can 4 minutes, recovery jog 3 minutes. That came out to 5.12 miles, and because it was 11 F out I got a nice selfie of the ice on my beard afterward.

While I was doing it, I thought I really hated intervals; but afterward, it feels pretty good to have done them.

I tried out my tri suit on the trainer yesterday, and in the pool this morning. It is snowing like crazy outside, and the roads are slick!!! It wasn't bad when I drove to the Y this morning at 5:30 (25 miles away, but close to my job). But when I got out, it was already about 2" deep, and very slick. I went to McDonalds, and when I came out I slid right into the main road. I started to go home, but it was another 25 miles down the country roads, and I didn't want to do that. I will leave work early today, but after it gets light and the sun has a chance to do its thing.

Got outside for a 5 mile run yesterday. I like this time of year because I don't go out with a certain distance to do. I just see what I'm up to doing. I will always do at least 3 miles, but after that, it just depends on what i'm up to doing. I haven't run this 5 mile route in a long time so it was nice. It's around the lakes so it always depends on the conditions down there. It's always much colder and windier there.

Today I get on the bike trainer. I would much prefer taking my bike outside for a ride, but that's not going to happen for awhile. It gets boring riding in one spot. Just like the treadmill.

Have a nice day everyone!

Today is a rest day in the training program. I did walk about a mile to round out my 10K steps for the day. I also cross-trained with the new white exercise equipment that was delivered to my driveway this morning.

Tomorrow should be interesting. It's supposed to be a coached workout at 6 am, which I won't make. Facebook chatter indicates I should do intervals. Temps will be in the single digits, and there is likely to be packed snow on the roads.

Did a treadmill run yesterday and I have today off so I'm hoping for an outdoor run this morning.
I'm thinking about possibly going swimming later. If not, will go tomorrow.

Half marathon training said 4 easy miles today, and I managed to limit myself to 4.3 miles. 29 F with a 25 mph SSW wind that was pretty fierce at the top of my biggest hill; but it was a pleasant run.

Tomorrow is MLK Day, a holiday for my employer and a rest day in the training plan. Maybe I'll sleep late.

I've been too tired to do much of anything this week. Today I'm starting to feel much more energetic, but I'm still not going to push myself. Sometimes I think my body just rebels and needs a rest week. I'll hit it hard again starting tomorrow.

Snow has ended. We ended up with about 5 inches of fluffy stuff. 1 mild day before the cold wind chills return. Hoping to get out for that run this morning.

First "long" run of half marathon training today, at 7 am. Turned out it was just the pace leader and me in the 8 minute group; he says by the end of training there will be 5 or 6 because peopel will graduate from the 8:30 and 9 minute groups.

Long is relative, only 5 miles today; but a coating of snow on the ground, light snow in the air, and a 17 mph wind kept it interesting.

Blew off my run yesterday and didn't do so hot with shoveling food in either. I pay the price everytime I do that. You'd think I would learn already.

Today is suppose to be my rest day, but not doing anything yesterday, I'll probably do something today. Light work week next week so I should be able to get in some swimming with my girlfriend at the private U. Just don't know how much I'll be able to do that. The Y here is like 40 something a month. The problem is I don't think I would get my money's worth during the hot months. They do offer 1 trial membership that is good for 3 months. If all else fails, I may do that. Another positive thing about using the private U is that they also have and indoor 200 meter track which is also open to the public. The running track at the Y is old and not so great.

Have a great Sat. everyone!

Got the email, and I was assigned to the 8 minute pace group. Today is a rest day, which is good for me because my previously injured left foot was complaining a bit about how hard I ran the time trial yesterday evening. It quieted down during my lunch walk, and the "long" run tomorrow morning is only 5 miles, so I think I'll be okay.

Becky, our Y is $33/month for access to everything. For families it is $48/month. I think it's a pretty good deal. I swim 2x week in the early morning before work, and I usually go at least 2x week for an after work workout. I get my money's worth. I hope you find something that works for you.

Kevin, you definitely belong in the 8 minute pace group. You're doing great!!

I ran 4 miles last night. This morning I started with 1,000 yards in the pool. This evening I will do 6x800s + 4x400s. Tomorrow I'll do bike intervals, Sunday I'll do my long run. Today is my oldest granddaughter's birthday. She's 12 today. My daughter and I will be taking her and her friends Cosmic Bowling. I'm pretty much thinking that's a fate worse than death, hanging out with a bunch of 12 & 13 yr old girls, at midnight, with colored lights, loud music, bowling... But the girls will have fun, I'm sure.

Got on the trainer yesterday and then the treadmill for a short one. I'm blowing off my workout this morning too. I will switch days and do one tomorrow instead. I just don't feel like I get a quality workout in when I'm rushed in the morning. I can't wait for warmer weather and longer days.

Found out that the University is not open to the public as DH said. I should know better than to rely on him for info. He's usually wrong. Now I have to find an alternative. The Y is just too expensive. The private University here does open to the public, but the times are awkward so I will have to see what I can do.

Have a great Friday!

My half marathon training program kicked off this evening with 2 mile time trials. Got great weather, around freezing with negligible wind and we could actually see the nice full moon. I missed the first turn on the first of 4 laps on the route, so that added a little time and distance; but I still clocked in at 13:15.

I hope that time convinced the trainers to put me in the 8 minute pace group.

Yesterday I skipped out on all my exercise. I felt like total poo, with a stabbing headache that wouldn't stop. I went to bed at 6:00 last night, was asleep by 6:30 and slept through the night. I woke up still feeling blah and icky, but I'm starting to feel better. I need to go to the Y tonight and do bike intervals and run 4 miles. I may just blow it off again today. We'll see.

We're getting more extreme temps again this week. It's nice now, but that's about to change. We have a blanket of snow on the ground since last night. Indoor workouts the rest of the week except for a possible swim.

My SIL suggested I pick up Feb. edition of Triathlete Mag. because it had a Sprint training plan in it. The mag. has lots of good info, but now it makes me more nervous about that darn swim. After yesterdays nice run, I did an easy 2 mile run on the treadmill this morning. I got a late start so that was all I could get in. I usually like to do 3.

I have a full work day today and tomorrow my plan is to get on the trainer. Plus we're under a Winter Weather Advisory tonight and tomorrow. Anywhere from 1-5 inches of snow expected along with wind. Fun! emoticon

Aside from the wind gusts, it was a perfect running day. Mid 40's. i got in 7 miles so I felt pretty good about that. I did manage a nice blister on my toe. The weather will be changing tomorrow and so I'm afraid I'll be working out on the treadmill at least thru mid week.

That was a wise decision, Moby.

My 8 miles went well today. Evenly paced, regardless of the hills. I'm on the comeback trail!

Another good running day on a January weekend - 35F, cloudy, W wind 15 mph. On a short warmup, I felt a mild twinge in my right hip abductor. It didn't rise to the point of being sore, but after running longer yesterday than I have since the last injury I decided today wasn't a good day for a tempo run. So I just ran an easy 4.64 miles on a standard route with two small hills.

I just looked at a treadmill conversion chart. I thought yesterday's intervals were slower, but it turns out they were about the same!! The TM is so much more difficult than for me. I hate it. I'd rather run the extra distance getting lost. Hahahaha.

Today I've got 8 miles on the schedule. I'm going to do it around 2:00. Should be in the mid-40s.

Jeri-I just plain over heat on the treadmill. It doesn't help that it's under a heat vent which we have one of those things over it to move the heat. Unfortunately we don't have many options for the treadmill because of where we can plug it in. I need a fan which will be purchased as soon as they come out again.

I used to run thru many icey puddles when I was younger. You couldn't avoid them at all. Now I usually run the bike path this time of year because of the fact that the roads are narrower now with the snow and I don't like to deal with cars.

Yesterday didn't go as planned but we're suppose to hit 40 today and I'm hoping my plans work out. I've worked out a training plan for this week and except for the swim, I should be able to make it work. We're not sure exactly when the pool will be open.

Have a great Sunday! I just wish we'd have some sunshine today!

Went for a group run at the local running store today. First time for me from that location, and there were no pace groups today. So I'm running in an unfamiliar part of town, in a light rain, holding a slip of paper telling me what streets to turn on.

I missed a turn, and ran a bit of extra distance figuring out what I'd done wrong. The designed 7.5 mile run came out as 9.72 miles on RunKeeper. But I can't complain about 42 F on January 11, and the wool socks did their job keeping my feet warm in spite of the puddles of ice water that were unavoidable.

You can't have this much fun with a treadmill.

Today I ended up on the indoor track instead of the treadmill. On the TM I'll do intervals at 6.8, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 and 7.4. But it wears me out, and I have to do the rest periods really very slowly. So today I used the track, and my intervals were much slower. However, it felt like a normal run and not just a "move my feet as fast as I can" type of thing. I was very pleased with my pace. I ran 4 1/2 miles (I didn't do the 4x400s) at a pace that was 30-60 seconds faster than the 5 mile race I ran on New Years Day.

After my run, I swam 1,000 yards. It was a good workout day.

Friday was my rest day and I'm really hoping to get out for a run today. It just depends on if the snow and ice melt. The temps. are suppose to be mild so I'm hoping it is. Otherwise I will do intervals on the treadmill. I work most days next week so I need to plan out my workouts this weekend. I'm hoping to get to the pool 1 day this week.

Jeri-what speed do you do your intervals on the treadmill? I feel like I should be doing more but I tend to get over heated so I end up taking it easy. Another good reason to get outside and run.

Have a nice Sat. everyone!

I'll be doing intervals tomorrow on the TM. 6x800s, and 4x400s. Then I'll swim about 1500 yards.

I would love to use the treadmill for intervals only if I could. The weather looks pretty good thru next week so it looks like I should be able to get some decent workouts in outside. At least I hope so.

Have a great Friday!

Layers will definitely affect your pace.
I ended up with a really nice 4 mile tempo run at the Y on the treadmill. My coach has me on a specific schedule, and he loves treadmills for training. Uggghhh... He thinks tempo runs are done best without traffic interruptions, and he's right. So 4 miles on the tm, 3 at tempo pace. After I ran, I went into the spin room and did my own personal spin class. I had a good workout yesterday. Unfortunately, my coach doesn't think I need a rest day or something. I doubled up workouts yesterday, and I'm going to double them tomorrow, and today I will rest. I need it!!

Jeri-I almost blew off my run today. I was lazy too. I was planning an afternoon run today because I had things going on this morning and I thought it would be warmer. It was 18 but I continued to get lazier. I almost didn't go, but it started eating at me. I had to pick my son up after school so I figured I'd go down to the lake and run and then go and get him. I did it! In fact, I improved my pace finally. It's not where it was, but I'm wearing layers and I'm sure that has something to do with it. I had too many layers today. I was so sweaty when I finished. Even my mittens were wet. Lesson learned. I don't need 2 layers on the bottom and I don't need 2 long sleeve shirts under my jacket either.

Weekend should be in the 30's. Snow is in the forecast, but I'm hoping it isn't too bad.

Have a nice evening everyone!

Good weather is always nice :-) It's 40 and overcast here. I tried to get up and go to the Y to run this morning, but I was completely worn out!! Instead, I laid in bed and slept an extra hour. My increased strength training is leaving my butt muscles really sore! Haha. It's making me lazy. Oh well. In about an hour I will be off work, and I'll go to the Y for a tempo run. I'm tired and don't feel like it, but I've got to get it done.

Finally got a day of normal winter weather for running. 22 F, WSW wind 10 mph, and bright sunshine at noon. Okay, the bright sunshine isn't really normal for winter here; but it's a welcome abnormality.

I hope your day improves Jeri!

It is hard not to look down, but I really have to watch what I'm running on right now because of the snow and ice. I bought my contacts specifically for running especially in the heat and the cold, but since I had my eye infection, I haven't worn them. I really need to get them back in my eyes again.

Treadmill and trainer today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that tomorrow will be the start of outdoor runs again. The extreme cold should be out of here finally.

Have a great Wed.! emoticon

Today is NOT a good day. I did 10x50s in the pool, and didn't hit a single time goal. Not one. Our pipes were frozen at home, so hubby had to shower at the Y. And then he forgot his bag at home, so he had to use my towel while I was in the pool, which meant I had to use a wet towel. Then I spilled hot McDonald's coffee all over my lap, plus on my white fleece jacket. My pant legs are still soaking wet because I have no clothes to change into. Plus, I smell like coffee. If that mouse happens to show his furry little butt on my desk today, I'm going to whack him as hard as I can with the palm of my hand, and squish him. I'm in no mood to deal with a mouse taunting me. Hahahaha

Becky, don't look down when you run. When you look down, your breath in your clothing directs the air upward toward your glasses. It's really difficult to not look down.

I have to remember to put the contacts in on those cold runs. It stinks when the glasses fog up and you can't see. It was another treadmill day. It'll be a toss up tomorrow. Still below zero, but slowly warming up.

-3 F and 29 mph WSW winds when I got up this morning. So I waited for the heat of the day to run, and still cut it short at 3.46 miles at +3 F with 26 mph WSW winds and blowing snow.

Other than the frosted over glasses, it was a nice run. Next time, I need to know to leave the glasses off when I'm planning on putting the gaiter over my nose. I can see better without glasses than around frosted over glasses.

I'm starting a new one. We can't make it stick to the top, though, without a team leader. I'll go find Sharon (MBShazzer) on FB and ask her to do that.
