Jeri-what kind of rack do you have? We just bought ours late last season so we only used it a couple of times and didn't go far.

It was a beautiful day today. Iwent out for a morning run before work which made my day. Legs weren't too happy, but too bad for them. I will suffer tonight when I try and sleep. I had to earn that chocolate I will be consuming tomorrow after not having it during Lent.

My work schedule this week will allow me to get my workouts in every day but Monday. Unless I get out before work. Depending on tomorrow, I could squeeze some hill repeats in. I like to do them in the dark so my neighbors don't thin I'm nuts!

I hope everyone had a nice Sat. and I hope you have a wonderful Easter!

Kevin, you will do great!! Your progress has been good, and you're diligent with the training.

Jean, slow is a relative term :-)

Today I went to a run-through of the tri course, getting ready for next week. We didn't do the bike course, but we did run the 5K portion. It was cross country. I've run that course before. Today was fun, though, because we took two grandkids along. My husband is not doing the tri, but he wanted to ride. We took the grands specifically so we could go to the Legacy Trail after I was done. My grandson (8 yrs old) wanted to run with the tri people, too. So he did. But... back up to early morning. The tri is almost 60 miles away from home. We Had our two bikes strapped to the bike rack, and the kids' bikes were in the back of the Durango. We got to the place, and I was inside at the pool area, getting ready to learn. My husband and granddaughter were in the car, my grandson was with me. Soon the sheriff showed up. Our bike rack had fallen off the car -- bikes and all -- about a mile down the road. Thankfully, nobody was behind us, and the sheriff saw it happen. He picked it all up and took it to the sheriff's office. Then he came down to the rec center (he saw us head that direction), and he went inside looking for us. So my husband had to go back to the sheriff's department and retrieve the bikes, fix the rack, etc. Turns out the bolts had come loose. They were crappy bolts, and we knew when we bought the thing that the bolts were crappy. Anyway, we took care of it, and it was fine. He bought bigger bolts. Then after we got through the course, and did our run, we drove over to the Legacy Trail to get in a 20 mile ride. But before we could ride, my husband had to go back to a store to buy a tube for our grandson's tire. Ugghh... After the big scare, and a couple of shopping trips, and a little maintenance, we finally got on the trail. The kids were great. 20 miles is a long way to go. Melanie (10 yrs old) started complaining in mile 7. But she hung in there and complete all 20 miles. Marshall (8) had a great time!! All in all, super fun day :-)

She woke up one morning and threw away all her excuses...

Today was the last paced run of the half marathon training. I was the only half marathon trainee in the 8:30 pace group. Most of the group were training for the Buffalo Marathon, but one guy is doing Boston. I think I got as much benefit from the marathoners' chatter as from the paced runs.

Now for a week I need to keep reminding myself to run easy and run short. Four runs of 3 miles or so before race day.

Jeri - There's something to be said for just getting something done when you aren't very good at it, because the next time through your improvement is quite motivating. I wonder about that now, approaching my first half marathon.

I'm beginning to see how the taper builds the "coiled spring" phenomenon for race day. At 6 PM it was 61 F with clear skies and a light breeze. You don't get much better running weather than that. And I ran . . . my assigned easy 3 miles. Got done, and really wanted to keep going. But I'm in the mode of trusting the program to prepare me for race day, so I stopped.

The paced run tomorrow says 6 on the workout log, but it's what we call 6-ish. The map says 6.55 miles, with a bit over 5 being the start of the half marathon course. That's the flat part of the course; the last two Saturdays we ran the interesting part of the course.

Good morning!! I started the day in the pool, with 1000 yds of pull and kick exercises. Breathing was effortless today. Yay for that!! Tomorrow there is an informal run-through of the tri I'm doing next Saturday. I'm making my husband come with me tomorrow so he can hang with me in the back of the bike-pack. OMG, I'm gonna suck so bad. Mwahahaha... I'm okay with that. I can only get better from here, right?

Near perfect running weather this noon, 48 F and sunny with 11 mph wind from the ENE. I wanted to go to Maundy Thursday service this evening, so I ran 4.6 miles of tempo this noon instead of whatever speed workout the coaches would have had me do at 6 PM. Today's tempo is the last speed work before the half on April 27. My feet are liking the taper already.

I've been lazy, but actually went out for a HR run keeping HR close to 77%. I am so slow when I do these kind of runs. About 5.5 miles.

Groceries and house cleaning are on the agenda for today.

Good Morning!

Those little ones grow up so fast!

Yesterday was an indoor workout. Nothing spectacular. Today I will do better. It looks like our weather is going to change next week finally. 60's and 70's. Hoping to get outside with the bikes. Not sure if we'll take the road bikes out or just use the mountain bikes. Way too much sand on the roads yet. Easter looks to be wet. Still hoping for that to change.

Have a great day!

HOME: I am glad to be home... slept about 10 hours last night (maybe 11 as I fell asleep watching TV on the couch).

BABY: I held her yesterday morning before leaving for the airport and got all choked up. Those little ones sure worm their way into one's heart quickly. BTW: Once she started getting enough to eat, she was a very good baby.

OBSERVATION: Babies are most likely born with some "propensities." I can sure see how these inner propensities combined with the environmental and personality influences of family and friends creates a new being.

Got some "to-do" items on my list today.
Supposed to run today and Friday, but will switch to Thursday and Saturday.
Getting back into a healthy routine....

WEIGHT: I did lose a couple of pounds while in Montana. I honestly thought I had lost more and found myself disappointed with only 2. I shouldn't be though.

Good morning!! I started out with 1500 yards in the pool. There was a man beside me who was really splashy. And I couldn't really get my breathing right the first 500 yards or so. But it wasn't horrible, and it didn't suck overall, so I'm good with that.

More time on the bike this afternoon. I need my legs to be strong! They need to be bike strong, which is different than run strong. I'm getting excited about this race :-)

Jeri-I think they do that here for our Tri also. I sure hope so. It'll help a ton to get the feel of things before the race.

This weather we're having is ridiculous! Rain today and snow tonight and tomorrow. 60's and 70's for next week? Really? I'll believe it when I see it!

I had a better run yesterday. I took off yesterday not knowing exactly where I was going to run and it worked out great. I did do some walking but I ran more than I walked. Happy with that. I need to do some cross training today.

Enjoy your day!

Snow in the air at 11 AM, but I ran in mere light rain around 7. The schedule said 3 miles on hills. I did 3.4 miles, but only one hill of note on the route.

One day into the taper, and I'm beginning to see why people look forward to it. I still had energy left when I stretched, and nothing hurt. Not even minor, easy to work through aches. Now I get to see how well that lasts through six consecutive days of running short distances.

It's snowing today. I'm going to hit the bike hard with intervals on the trainer tonight. This weekend I'm going to a preview of my tri, which is next weekend. An experienced tri coach (and local newscaster) is offering a view of the pool, the bike course, and then a group run. He said bring gear, etc., and we'll figure out what we're doing before the 26th!

After about 2 inches of snow, I'd love to go out running in 80 degree temps.! Winter just doesn't want to go away. Seeing pics of family racing this past weekend in shorts and t-shirts made me bummed. That should be our weather. Not hats and gloves!

Jean-it's a good thing that your granddaughter isn't losing weight. Enjoy your last day with her!

I'm hoping today is more productive than yesterday. I didn't do much of anything. Laundry and cooked dinner. Track meet tonight, but my son isn't running cuz it's a limited entry and they have alot of relay teams so I may go and watch for a bit, but I won't have to sit out in the 30 something degree temps. with north winds!

Have a great day everyone!

Hi team!

Last Montana run is planned for today plus packing up and holding this little Miss. If it is a little sunny, I will take some pictures of the area. It has been so overcast or I needed to be at home.

KEVIN: I've noticed with races - you never can plan your race strategy without knowing what the weather is going to be like. I have run through several of Florida's warm humid mornings for these 2 1/2 years we have lived here now. One thing for sure - sweat clears up pores. LOL!

Kevin, I ran in 80, too. I was enjoying it! Our long runs are never very fast, because we get distracted. A lot. Those two old men with the deer in the car were cracking me up!!

Jean, that's good news for the baby. No loss is good!!

Today the battery in my outdoor thermometer died. It told me it was 71 when I went out to run, and gave me no reading when I got back. Changed batteries, and it was 80 by the time I could trust the reading to really be outdoors.

It feels weird to come inside and have it be cooler than outside. No, I haven't turned on the a/c yet.

The west wind has been a challenge while running this winter. Today, it was a relief every time I turned to run into the wind. I've definitely achieved the goal of running through the winter. Now I need to learn how to run in warm weather. I sat out the last two summers on injured reserve.

I hope I get something nice like 40 with light wind and sunshine for the half, but I'll run it in whatever weather we have that day.

Good Morning.....

KEVIN: Sounds like a good plan.... Race day is approaching!!!

JERI: Great comeback from the tired morning. Hill sprints..... lots of work.

BECKY: Hi!

****

Baby: Weight.... Friday's weight at the doctor's was the same as Wednesday's weight leaving the hospital. No gain, but no loss either. I can tell she is eating more.

AFM.... Except for my 3 run days last week and dog walking I have not done any exercising. Just always making myself available..... if needed.

Tomorrow ... last hilly run and Tuesday flying home!!!

Oh..... yesterday and today - a little bit of snow - first time I've seen snow in about 8 years. LOL!!!

Good Morning!

emoticon on the workout Jeri! Those tired days were usually the days I would have an awesome run. It was getting out there that was the tough part.

It poured yesterday and at one point we were under a sever thunderstorm warning. Wind and hail were what we got. Kind of nice to not be having a winter storm warning. Today is so gloomy. It's suppose to rain again and then the temps are suppose to drop into the 30's and 40's most of the week.

Have a great day!

Kevin, you are doing great with your training!!
Jean, How's the baby today?
Becky, I hope your knee becomes pain free soon.

Today I was super tired. I hopped out of bed and put on my running clothes to go to the track for a speed workout. I ended up sitting and doing nothing for HOURS!! Finally I got my butt out the door. I knew I didn't feel like speed work, but I needed something. So I took off through town, and I knew exactly where I wanted to go. Up and over a hill to the bottom of the best hill sprint hill around! 10x20 secs of hill sprints smack dab in the middle of my run. And they were great!! I ran around a little and went home. Then we had to go help my dad fix his lawnmower (dead battery). Afterward, I took a hilly bike ride. I was quite proud of the workout I did on a day that started out feeling so bleh.

She woke up one morning and threw away all her excuses...

Checking in. Been busy with work, volunteer work, and half marathon training. This morning we got a gorgeous spring day, 39 F at 7 AM and warming to the mid-40s for the long run. 9 miles, about half hills and perhpas 5 miles of the Flower City half marathon course. It was good to run in shorts, and I think I've got the mechanics nailed down for hydration belt and in-race nutrition.

Down to 9 miles today for the long run, 6 easy miles tomorrow, rest Monday. Then 6 running days in a row, but short runs of 3, 4, 4, 3, 6, and 3 miles. It will be frustrating to hold it that short, but I'm sure I'll appreciate it on race day.

BECKY: I run-walk all the time. I can run straight , but just choose not to. Glad your knee is feeling a little better.

JERI: Again, I can understand how you feel about your dog. Probably the dog stress isn't helping your arthritis either. Stress affects so much of our body.

****

AFM.... A quiet home for the moment. Family went to baby doctor. Just me and the dog. I am going out for a 5 miles run-walk shortly. Goal is 80% HR, which won't be hard considering my last 2 runs and all the rollingness in this area. I kind of like it. It reminds me of hiking in the mountains (which I love, but have not done in quite awhile).

Good morning. I'm so tired. I've had two swim workouts and a half hearted bike workout this week, and that's it. My dog has me stressed to no end, and now my rheumatoid arthritis has caused my hands and wrists to be big swollen, red, painful blobs of achiness. OMG. I feel like doggie doo-doo. My dog has to be confined to his crate for 4-6 weeks. Last night my husband left his crate open, and he got out and crawled underneath my niece's bed. I'm hoping my sister can coax him back into his crate today. At least we figured out how to get him to take his medicine. We bought canned food, and we hide his pills in the food.

I am at work, but I just really feel the need to go home. :-/

Jeri-Sorry about your dog. How do you treat a pelvic bone break?

I've been doing a walk/jog the last 2 days and have found that it doesn't bother my knee as much. So I will continue to do that most of the time, but of course, I will still squeeze in a run only day. I need to do more cross training though. Wish they would get the streets swept so we can get the road bikes out. There is so uch sand on the roads. I even slide when I'm running on it.

Rain in the forecast for the weekend. Praying for some sunshine!

Have a great day!

Checking in. I've been at the doctor all morning. Regular rheumatology checkup. I need a new med because my wrists and hands are starting to deform again. Ugghh. Oh well. Things could be worse. My dog got hit by a car last night. My niece accidentally let him out, and he chased a truck. It was pulling a trailer, and the trailer ran over him. It broke his pelvic bone, but otherwise he is okay. He is in a lot of pain. I am totally stressed over that. Maybe when I get home this evening I will run. I don't know. I'm so tired. I love my mutt, and I'm still worried about him, even though I know he's okay.

Good MOrning!

Everyone is home. This is good.

Headed out shortly for a nice 2-3 mile walk. My HR will probably get to zone 3 just walking on these hills.

Ran and walked yesterday.

Good Morning!

There's a band of showers headed our way this morning, but should clear off after that. It really feels like Spring right now. Not so much next week I'm afraid. Will enjoy it while it's here though.

Yesterday I did another walk/run. Knee is feeling pretty good this morning so I'm glad about that. Hopefully the weather will hold up and we'll be able to get the bikes out this weekend for a ride.

Thanks Becky.... I am just glad that something was done. I am disappointed in the pediatrician that just kept telling my DD to be patient and keep trying to feed the baby. Even I could tell the baby wasn't getting enough to eat. And the pediatrician was the one weighing the baby.

Jean-I hope your granddaughter gets to come home soon. That happened to my youngest son. We didn't have to pt him in the hospital, but we had to supplement formula for him for quite awhile.

Ran 1 mile and then my knee started causing me problems. Walked the rest of the way. I work today but it's suppose to be in the 70's so I will be getting out after work for sure.

Thanks Jeri.... the baby just wasn't getting enough milk - either because of inability to suck or DD's inability to produce enough. Hopefully, things will continue for the better.

***

Weight: I am sure I have lost weight this past week. Not because of stress, but I just don't eat as much - probably 'cause I'm not cooking for anyone but me. And NO beer!!! LOL!!!

Food: DD and SIL eat primarily close to vegetarian. They will eat meat but very rarely. I told DH that we could try to eat less meat and try some of these non meat meals a few times a week. Also, DD introduced me to Nutella. I had toast, nutella, and sliced strawberries. Her word for it - decadent. I don't think I will buy Nutella when I get home. I would just get an spoon and eat it out of the jar. Heck with the bread.

Weather: Lots of robins.... spring is coming to Montana!!!

Rosalind: Did not come home yesterday.... maybe today. I know DD and SIL will be glad to be at home again. I brought my camera, but have not taken one picture yet.....

Today.....
HR run - setting HR at 77% of max. Will cover same route as Monday....about 5 or 6 miles.
Errands and "to do" list!

Jean, I hope your granddaughter continues to improve and is home soon :-) My 1st grandson had a problem like that, and they called it "failure to thrive." He was 8 weeks early and weighed 7 lbs at birth. His intestines were too immature to process the nutrition, and he didn't get back up to 7 lbs until he was 6 months old. Very difficult for parents and grandparents. Now he's 8 years old, and he is an amazing, beautiful, active boy. I wish the same for your granddaughter :-)

Yeah, those elevation changes will get your heart rate up, for sure. Hills are a workout!

Hi team....

A few moments this morning to check in.....

Update on GD: Of course she is beautiful, but could not eat enough and lost almost 2 pounds in a week. She went back in the hospital and has been there since last Friday. They are now supplementing with formula. Poor little girl was very dehydrated and kidney failure was a big danger. She is still in the hospital (since Friday), but might be able to come home today or tomorrow - depending upon her labs. She is now 11 days old. She has almost gained back the weight she lost. Some of it from the IV - originally in her little arm, but now just above/near her ear in her head. Her kidneys seem to be functioning as they should now. This has been very hard on her mom and dad.

*****

AFM.... I go to the hospital daily, clean, wash clothes, and take care of the dog - a Jack Russel Terrier. I am hoping the crazy dog doesn't think Rosalind is a chew toy.

I've only run twice since I got to Billings last Wednesday. I have walked quite a bit though. My first run I tried with the dog. Well, as energetic as a Jack Russel is..... the 2 miles were pretty sad as far as running goes.

Yesterday I did get out by myself. I set my Garmin for a 75% heart rate, and set the Gymboss for an easy 20:40 interval. Well, with all these rolling roads and higher elevation than this flat world girl is used to.... my HR was often over 80% with a slightly slower pace than I usually get with a 20:40 interval. I think I could get used to running on these rolling roads. I did not look at distance or pace when I was done - but my cardio segment was 75 minutes. Running at home almost always with little to no elevation gain, I was so surprised that my HR would drop while running downhill. That was my biggest surprise. Uphill.... now that is a whole different story.

Today, I am painting some spots in GDs room. There are some areas that the previous paint colors shows - along the ceiling. DD asked me if I could "fix" it. All I can do is try. Will head to the hospital later if they are staying another night. Also some errands that need doing.

Will check back in when I can. When everyone is home - it just is a bit more chaotic.

Good morning. It's a beautiful day here. I started the day with a 1500 yd swim. My swim time is so much faster than it used to be. I'm very pleased with my progression! Tonight (if it's not raining) I'll go for a bike ride. If it's raining, I'll do bike sprints on the trainer.

I had a grand and glorious running weekend. Saturday I did 800s and 400s. I didn't hit my goals on the 800s, mostly because I ended up with stomach distress, with no access to bathrooms at the track. Ugghhh... However, with the progressive 800s, I did hit the first goal, and it was where I was topping out last month. I just couldn't speed it up for the rest of them. I held it at last month's top pace for 6x800s.

Yesterday my daughter and I went for a 9+ mile run. She's having knee issues, so we didn't break any speed records. But we had a good time. I blogged about it, with pictures. We live in a beautiful area, with lots of things to distract us from our run. Hahaha

We had a beautiful day yesterday and I didn't do all that bad for my 8k race either. We did have quite a bit of wind though wich made it tough at times especially since we were running out around farm fields so there wasn't any protection. Starting the race there were lots of people to block the wind but as everyone starting spreading out, it got tougher. I'm happy that I didn't have to walk any of it this year. Knee held up until last night. No running today, but will try and get out for a walk to keep it loose.

Have a great Monday!

What a difference a day makes! I noticed when I got home from church that there was no snow on my lawn, for the first time this year. Ran my 5 easy miles in sunshine at 51 F. The 5 day forecast has no snow in it, and only one night of the temperature dipping below freezing.

I think I achieved the goal of running outside through the winter. I'll be glad to not see any more snow before October at the earliest, and preferably not till December.

Our snow has all melted. Hopefully it won't be back til next winter, but I won't hold my breath. The stores are starting to set up their garden centers now and flowers will be arriving soon. Trees should be startng to bud also.

Todays forecast for my 5 mile race is overcast, breezy and a high of 59. It won't feel that warm, but as long as the rain holds off I'll be happy. My knee and lower leg on the other and was wishing for thunderstorms today. I will do the best that I can!

Have a great day!
