We don't get much snow where I live. I would take snow over pouring rain any day. We get dark days with pouring rain. So running outside becomes a safety issue - no sidewalks coupled with low visibility and wet, hilly roads strewn with slippery leaves.

I don't want to get hit by a car or slip and fall on wet roads. I will run outside when it is safe to do so, but I think there will be lots of days where it's a better choice to run indoors.

You don't necessarily have to switch to indoor running when the weather gets bad. Unless it's lightning on you, you can get outside. I've been out in temps below 20, with snow on the ground. And it feels great!! Put screws in the bottoms of your shoes, and you're good to go :-)

way to go, Rave. great run. There are always destination races. and you can always find a 5K.

I find that the ravenous hunger has to do with more Thurst and replenishing liquids. Drink lots of water the rest of the day. But do get your protein in.

Congrats on your 10K! That is awesome! And yes, with the proper training you definitely can do a half next year! Woohoo! Very exciting isn't it?

I tried to make good choices and eat small portions but I felt like a ravenous bear all that day.

It took until today for my quads to recover! Now that they have, I wish there was another 10k nearby that I could do before the bad weather hits. I wish we weren't heading into fall/winter because that means I will have to switch to indoor running.

I will do my best to stay conditioned so that my second racing season is even more fun than my first was. I wonder if I could do a half marathon a year from now?

Congrats. on completing your first 10k! I did my first this year too and I loved it. I usually don't have much of an appetite when I race, but our treat is a donut when we complete one. We started that tradition last year and we've continued it. It was a way to get my boys to run with me.

I ran my first 10k today! My time was 1:23:06 and that included a five minute pit stop due to loooong lines at the port-a-potty at mile 3. I'm so proud that I finished and I wasn't the last from my age group. Spark says I burned something over 700 cals.

Question about race day and losing weight - do you stay within your spark calorie range on race day or do you just listen to your hunger?

I'm starving every two hours and at this rate, I doubt I will manage to keep it under 1500 cals today.
