The one I was talking about in my hometown is the Fox Valley Marathon (there is a Half, a 20 miler and the full Marathon)...it was a fabulous course! It starts on the street for about the first 4 miles or so. There is a hill around mile 2 or 3, but it's not too bad. The rest of the course is along the Fox River, with hardly any hills at all.

It was miserable last year. I think I only ran a handful of times outside. I saw the half online that I believe you're talking about. I thought it would be pretty hilly - have you done it?

I'm in Frankfort - the biggest race in the area is the duathlon in Tinley Park. Fun event, but the last two were so hot. I'm hoping for a lake breeze or two that weekend!

I ran the Allstate 13.1 in Chicago last June, and whew....it was hot! But I think last summer was (hopefully) a freak season for us. Are you in the suburbs of Chicago? I'm out in the Fox Valley area, and luckily we have a GREAT half marathon that starts and finishes in my town. It's not until September, though.

I've considered that - it was my last hold out before signing up. I usually do a duathlon in the south suburbs that weekend but skipped it last year because of the heat. The training timing is just too perfect so I'm going to take the plunge and hope for a mild summer (rare, but we've had them).

I ran the Rock 'n' Roll Chicago Half last summer in July. And it was God Almighty Hot!! 80ºF at 6:30 AM.

Just sayin' is all. It can be brutal in Chicago in the summer.

Haven't heard anything about this particular race, but you could try going down I-57 a bit and doing the Illinois Half in Champaign. Lots of people I know have run that race and have said it's well done...it's held at the end of April.

I was thinking of choosing this half as my first on June 23. Last year was the inaugural event and I was wondering if anyone ran it? If so, thoughts on course, crowd, etc?

I've done a couple of Chicago 5Ks and a few were poorly organized with way too many people on the course while others were amazing.
