It means that there is a sensor on the bib that will trigger the timing system as you cross over the mat.

Other methods include the D-Tag which is a plastic strip that you put through your shoestring, and the timing chip which you also attach to your shoe.

Start by doing what is necessary, then do what is possible and suddenly you will be doing the impossible -- St Francis of Assisi

Hi Kitty:
With your running do you follow a training plan? If I have a training plan to structure me I can run a marathon. Without one, I"ll be darned if I can get myself to do anything! That's why I always have to have a race on the books!

Glad you're getting back into the groove with the running, and I totally agree. Runners that I've met at these events TOTALLY rock. Can't wait to see who I'll meet on Thursday at my first ever Turkey Trot (4 miles here in Memphis), and it looks like it's going to be a LOT bigger than either of my 5ks that I ran earlier this fall!

Best of luck with the continuing training! :)

Thanks to both of you. I did have a good run with my Fuzzy Personal Trainer (FPT) Tazzy this afternoon. 3 miles in 31 minutes - for me that's quick. Was hoping for the runner's high. I think I left it with my spleen on the trail (absolutely exhausted!).

I'm not stopping, I'm not quitting. I need to be in this for keeps. I guess sometimes that has to be enough.

This will be the first "after party" I will be going to. I do find the people I meet on runs to be AWESOME. So that is something to look forward to.

Hi Kitty,

The individual timing chip will be on the backside of the bib versus the need for a D-tag that you wear on your shoe.

As for your preparation, sometimes you have to just tell yourself that if after 10 minutes you no longer want to run, you give yourself permission to stop...more times than not, it's the getting started that is the tough part.

RUN SPARK STRONG!

Coach Nancy

emoticon on signing up for your next race!

I really enjoy the competitive camraderie of a race...Runner's World's "Daily Kicks in the Butt" sent me a quote recently that I think captures the runner's culture:The reason we race isn't so much to beat each other but to be with each other (Christopher McDougall, "Born to Run"). Races are also celebrations and affirmations of the community we belong to...we all work and sweat on our own but each of us can appreciate a fellow runner's suffering and triumphs.

Have a good race!
Naomi

I signed up for the Santa Hustle yesterday. This will be my second official 5K. This one has individual "timing" on the bibs - whatever that means. I don't know much about the racing system yet - my first race was a good experience so hopefully I'll learn how all this works.

I have two weeks to get ready for Santa Hustle, and I've been sitting on my rump for three days now. I really need to figure out what has happened to my motivation. I'm just not caring right now and I can't find a reason. I thought the race would be motivating but I'm still just sitting here.

Oh well.
