I was hoping to run much faster today, but temps in the mid 70's combined with high humidity and bright sunshine pretty much ensured that I couldn't maintain the pace I had through the first 4 miles of this race. Despite that, I managed a PR, even if it wasn't pretty towards the end, but I didn't quit and I gave it everything I had to give. By the middle of the race I was making quick stops at water stops and pouring water over my head to stay cool. Also, I finished 14th over all and 2nd in my division - good for a bunch of points in the 2nd race of this HM trilogy. :-)
So here are my splits from todays race.
It started go go downhill from here as the heat began to get to me...
7. 6:54 (a bit of recovery after dousing myself with some water)
It started to get REALLY ugly after this point.....
11. 7:47 (not a good mile but once I got past it, I was able to push myself into a better pace (not much better, but better)
Then of course, the last 10th of a mile.
I think, all things considered (heat, humidity, etc...) that i had a strong race and I did well even if it was too hot for me to hit my goal pace of 6:45
