Ah! A subject I know something about.
When you give blood, they take a full pint ... reds and all. Your reds are what carries your oxygen. That is why giving blood affects your running.
I give platelets. With platelet apheresis you get all your reds back. I have never had a problem running after platelet donation. I do wait at least 4 hours before I run ... actually more because I schedule on no-run days. The only reason I wait for the 4 hours is because they tell you to wait four hours before doing anything strenuous so your arms have a chance to heal.
I have never required a nap nor had a headache after platelet donation as I often did after whole blood.
And! You can give platelets every two weeks. I have heard tell some centers let you come in every week.
Start by doing what is necessary, then do what is possible and suddenly you will be doing the impossible -- St Francis of Assisi
