Irene - I do love how you found the good in the midst of sadness. So glad to see all the love and support you got from family and friends. Hopefully one day you will get to give us a real hug! I love meeting my spark friends! There is nothing better! I hope your hubby is feeling better right now.

Jeri - how is the hip today?

It is a rainy dreary day. I will be running on the treadmill for sure. Not much else going on today - really need to clean up some clutter and make a grocery list.

Irene, it is so nice to hear that you are surrounded by people who love you during such a difficult time. It is a testament to your FIL's character!! He surely was an amazing man to have touched so many people.

Happy 2013 to all.

Thanks to everyone who offered messages of condolences on here or my Spark page...you folks are awesome. I really hope there's a point at which I get to meet some of you in person. I owe many of you some really big hugs, and I'd like to do better than deliver them electronically.
emoticon

Under the heading of "Can This Get Any Worse?", on the 30th (our anniversary), hubby got hit with a gastro thing before morning, and spent the entire day in bed, unable to lift his head from the pillow and fretting that he wouldn't be able to make it to the funeral home that night...! The good news is that he did make it, at least for the first hour, after which our very dear friends took him home. He dragged himself through the funeral yesterday, too, and when all was said and done and we got home, he crashed and spent yesterday in bed, too. He's still spiking a fever. Yeesh. Poor guy.

On the flip side, our 20 yo DD was in no mood to go out with friends last night, so she kept her old mom company and we rang in the new year watching stand-up comics and eating popcorn. Honestly, I LOVED it.

And, being the whacky optimist that I am, I've been searching for silver linings in the midst of all this, and here's what I came up with:

1) I managed to avoid the gastro bugs that are infesting our house (and so has everyone else so far, knock wood). That meant I was able to get through everything over the last couple of days, helping to 'represent' our family, including delivering the eulogy, which seemed to have exactly the desired effect - helping people know my FIL - and was a HUGE honour.
2) Several people came from out of town to pay tribute to my FIL. All of Ontario had been hit with snow storms like CRAZY for days before. The weather ALL cleared so that people were able to travel safely to and from our city without incident.
3) Among the people who traveled some incredible distances were my own siblings and their spouses. A brother, a sister and her husband drove about 500 miles to get here just for the funeral. Another sister and her husband drove about 270 miles to get here.
4) A dear friend of mine had moved to Western Canada some months ago, but happened to be in town for the holidays. She and her hubby also knew my DH when he was just a teen. Not only did they attend the funeral, but the wife sang in the choir at the mass. I was stunned.
5) My FIL's best friend and his wife moved about 300 miles east of here a few years ago, to be close to their daughter. I asked my MIL if Johnny was going to come for the funeral, and my MIL said no because they don't drive anymore and the weather is unpredictable, etc, etc. Well, who do I see at the visitation on Sun night? Yup. Johnny, his wife AND their daughter who drove them here. I told them about the exchange with my MIL and they all chuckled and said, "AS IF we wouldn't have come....!"

So, in the midst of all that sadness, we are able to gain strength from the goodness and kindness of people. Many truly did come through in astounding ways. And those messages have certainly helped to soften the sadness we have felt at the loss of a truly good man.

In that spirit, I'm looking forward. My mind and my body aren't ready for much yet, but we all know how important goals and plans are. I am looking forward to doing another marathon. My aim is to start hunting around for a good one to do in the fall, and begin my training around the same as before...I think some time in June. I am going to get back to running again soon. I have been hit with a cold that has me hacking away like I'm going to cough up a lung. My ribs are so sore, but my abs are getting a decent workout for a change. LOL

Will someone start a new thread soon, so we can move our Road Runners 2012 to a Road Runners 2013 thread? Looking forward to it. As we all know, running is darned good therapy, and I could use some of that as soon as I can breathe normally again!

My friends, I hope you have a wonderful 2013 in store.

Thanks Jean! I will check that out.

Christy-I hope it feels better soon. Our temps are a bit colder now. We're at -9 with a much colder wind chill. I'm ready for Spring!

Gave the boys a break this morning and DH and I del. their papers for them. Good thing cuz it was extremely cold and they don't dress right. I could've had a pr of gloves on under my mittens. Plus everytime I tried to pull my gator up over my nose, my glasses steamed up! Time to try contacts!

Today I am staying home where it is nice and warm. I plan on getting on the treadmill and then finishing my cleaning. I keep getting interrupted, but not today. Last day of vacation for the kids. Tomorrow they're back to school. 1 more day with DH and then Thurs. I have the house to myself again. Can't wait.

Have a great day!

BECKY: Of all the books I've read on "how to" run I'd recommend the Brad Hudson book - How to be your own best coach. Here is a link from the McMillan website that has a really good explanation of all the different types of runs. It is a long article but very informative!

JERI: How is your leg today? I hope it is a lot better and nothing serious.

DEEJ: So glad to hear your leg is improving. What amazes me is that you always sound in good spirits. I fear I would fall into a horrid depression.

CHRISTY: Hope you find some answers with that MRI...

2013 Mileage Goal....
I did have over 100 miles of running miles for December.
For 2012 I had a total of 868 which averages out to 72 miles per month.

I have a minimum goal of 1000 running miles for 2013 - that would be just under 85 miles a month.

Tammy-I think wedding planning takes precedent over anything. It’s in April, is that right?

Beckyanne-love your goals for the new year. How awesome to be able to get the “losing weight” goal out of the way. You should be so proud of yourself.

Jean-congrats on the 100 miles for the month-as I’m sure you met that goal.

Irene-my condolences on the loss of your FIL. Certainly not a fun way to spend your anniversary evening but sometimes life throws a curve ball that can’t be avoided. You and your family will be in my prayers during this difficult time.

Jeri-no fun with the freezing rain coming. And a possible hip fracture? You best get that looked at girl.

Deej-it’s so exciting to hear how the Chiro is able to wrap your foot to take the pressure off. Awesome that you’re out of the boot and almost ready to hit the road again. I know you’ll take it easy but, I have to say it anyway, take it easy. Sounds like a nice evening planned for you with the kids.

Like Beckyanne, our weather here is COLD! Warming up to the 20’s during the day, down to the teens and single digits at night. Still no running, I have a pinched sciatic nerve and I just can’t seem to get relief from it (I’m on Prednisone too). Two more days of this rx left then I schedule an MRI. I think I’m going to try running tomorrow anyway, I don’t think I can make it much worse. J

I hate to say that thankfully our company that was coming over tonight cancelled. We’ll be heading to a party here in the community later on. We’ll see if I actually make it until midnight.

Deej, so happy you had a cozy family Christmas :-) So sorry you won't run the RunTheBluegrass, but I totally understand. You've got to be well enough to run it, and that is NOT an easy race. Very, very hilly. We will meet at the Pig, though.

I've decided to back out of tomorrow's race. I'm going to rest for a week, run a couple of miles and see if there's any pain, and then go from there. I've contacted a personal trainer whose specialty is runners, and he's going to help me through the Flying Pig training. Of course, now I have to figure out what to do in case I'm sidelined for a month or so due to this hip. It's not just a regular "oh, I hurt myself a little, I'll lay off a few days" kind of thing. I'm thinking this is a couple weeks at least, maybe more. I know I'm tough and have a high pain tolerance, but I'm not stupid enough to put myself out of commission forever.

I registered for the Shamrock Shuffle 3K today. It's my absolute favorite little race!!! Brandy wants to run it this year and blow last year's time out of the water. However... this is her last semester of school before she starts student teaching, and her class schedule is Friday nights 6:00-10:00pm, and Saturday 8:00am-4:00pm. That would mean she would have to miss a few hours one day. She's going to have to contact her instructors when their offices open back up on Wednesday. If I can keep up with Brandy during this short race, I will set a PR for sure!

She woke up one morning and threw away all her excuses...

HAPPY NEW YEARS EVE, MY FRIENDS!! emoticon

I hope everyone is able to reflect on some good memories in 2012 & is looking forward to an even better 2013!!

Beth, I can imagine that the new Les Mills workout is a great one. I'm tempted to give it a try but I have to get healed first. I'll be listening for your continued review :) I'm sorry I've been so absent... how's Coops & do you still have the lil' pup?

Irene, My deepest sympathies!! I came on last night to catch up & to see if there was more news on your FIL. My heart aches for all of you but I was really blessed by your description of the Angels sent to see him through those final days. Tight HUG sent your way!!

Jean, congrats on your new Garmin 410 :) Sometimes we just gotta be our own Santa! lol And a double CONGRATS CONGRATS on the 100 miles!! That's awesome :) LOVED your blog! You have so much to offer other runners who are hesitant to start!!! Once they see the multiple benefits, they too will become hooked :)

Jeri, I've been watching that weather forecast too; especially since Joey has to return home tomorrow. I'm so sorry to hear about your hip & I too am hoping it's NOT a stress fx! I know you'll take it easy & listen close! Hope you get to run your race but I know you'll do what's best for ya! I had to laugh at you dressing as Santa on that run LOL And sorry Erin's no longer gonna run with you but I think you're right, probably best. How's Brandy?

Becky, I noted your comment abt the junk food; I too am ready to scrap all that stuff. My hub's a junk food junkie so we always have way too much around during the Holidays. I don't eat too much of it but a lil' snack here & there adds up. :( I'm so glad you're gonna see your Doc abt those palpatations but I'm sure you'll ultimately get the okay to run... wise to be cautious. I underwent over a year of heart testing before I knew I was okay to continue running; this was a few years ago. I can relate. I'm putting away Christmas decor today too; what a job!

Christy, I'm so sorry you're down but that's certainly understandable. I love your '13 goals & look so forward to walking alongside ya as you complete them :) we're all in this together kiddo! Praying that back feels better SOON!

Tammy, so happy you're keeping up with your running; you're my hero kid! I'm sure you're getting excited about the upcoming wedding, but wondering if it's also a bit overwhelming for ya as it all comes together? :) no worries hon! I know it's gonna be perfect & beautiful! Also, no worries if no one wants to commit to co-lead the group; I agree it's pretty much group led anyway but bless your heart for wanting to be sure we have a co-leader. All is good!

AFM (as Jean says :) I'm still seeing my Sports Chiro once each week; he wraps my foot in such a way that I don't have to wear my boot anymore. The wrap lifts the arch & takes pressure off the injury as I walk... pretty amazing a taping can do that, actually :) He's hoping he'll have me out of the tape as a next step & have me running soon. He does both ART therapy & the Graston technic; that hurts like heck as he "scrapes" along the adhesions that have built up from so much scar tissue. I really did a number on this & he's shocked I didn't have more warning from calf pain, etc. before the rupture.

Jeri, I rec'd an email from the organizers of the Lexington half, I didn't see it initially so got a reminder I had to decide by 12/21st whether I was going to transfer my RnR registration to Run the Bluegrass since they were taking over the race; transfer it to another RnR somewhere else in the country, or get a refund. I thought it said 12/31st & waited to discuss it with my Doc. Long story short, he said he'd prob either transfer or get the refund in case I'm not ready by then. Said I'll definitely be running long before then but wouldn't want me pushing it; always a possibility of relapse. He said, "If you're ready by then, just go run another one". Sooooo, as I was about to decide on transfer to another RnR or refund, I saw that my time was already up & they would automatically be refunding my registration fee. The email got lost, I suppose, in a sea of Christmas junk mail :( Oh well, prob best I don't commit right now to run it. I'm hoping to run Derby & I'm signed up for the PIG.

Christmas with my family was wonderful; all the kids here together in this Condo, half the size of our former home LOL Cozy but they didn't seem to mind; good thing we like each other!! Headed over to our oldest Son's place to watch the IU game this afternoon then Kyle, our #3 born, wants us to join him & some friends @ an Italian venue down on the river, a few bands he likes are performing that he wants us to hear. We may do that but will likely not stay till midnight; we typically bring each New Year in at home.

Have a great day everyone; stay safe!! I'll try to check in more often in 2013!!!

Good morning!! The sky is supposed to pelt us with freezing rain and snow today. Boo hiss. This will last through tomorrow, which will NOT be good for my Resolution Run 5 Mile Race. Oh well. My leg is giving me fits, and I think I may have to admit that it's not an arthritis flare. I've been taking prednisone, which should knock out a flare pretty quickly. This has not improved, and I'm worried about a stress fracture in my left hip. I can't even stand on my left leg while I put my right leg into my pants. After I walk around for a while, I'm fine. But the first steps.. Ugh... It's not pleasant. Oh well. It will either get better, or it won't. I'm betting it will. :-)

Happy New Year's Eve also! emoticon

I read your blog SEABREEZE! I have no clue about alot of the things you do. Does your Garmin help you time your paces? I just run one pace right now. I really need to read up on this stuff. Which book was the most informative to you? I want to start training for a 10k and eventually a HM. I want to complete both of these in 2013!

Most of the Christmas stuff is down. Now to give the house a good cleaning. It always seems like it takes so much longer to take the stuff down and put it away than it does to put it up. I did take more time tis year to make sure everything was dusted off before I put it away tis year. I plan on finishing things up today so that tomorrow I can just sit back and relax. After my workout of course!

The next few days look to be very cold. We have a wind chill advisory for tonight. It's not going to be a very good night to be out and about. Good thing we're staying home.

I hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year's Eve! emoticon

Good Morning!

Irene-I'm so sorry for your loss. It's hard to lose a parent.

No New Year's Eve plans here. We have gone out for dinner a couple of times, but it's always so cold and I really don't like being out with all of the drinking going on. I usually sleep thru midnight anyway.

Today we'll take our decor. down. Looking forward to getting things cleaned up.

Have a nice Sunday!

Not much happening today.
I have a long run (14 miles) scheduled for tomorrow and so will rest from cardio today. We will see how it goes.

Anyone have any New Year's eve plans?

We will have a couple from Michigan over for dinner, cards, and football watching. It will be good to see them.

Good morning. I wish I could take you all and give you giant hugs! It has been a rough year for so many people! Hopefully, 2013 will bring joy and peace for you all.

I'm getting ready to go fir a run in the snow. It's a nice snow today. We've had crappy snows all season, so it's nice to see pretty stuff on the ground.

Hi all....well, the saddest of news: My FIL passed away on Thurs night. He was at home and all indications are that he was not in pain or otherwise suffering. He seemed to be very peaceful. The care he got was exceptional from professionals and his devoted wife. He was treated very well.

If you can, think of an elderly gentleman - a grandfather, uncle, cherished friend - in your life and write or call him today. Tell him you love him and how special he is. If you don't have someone special like that in your life - think warm thoughts of someone you DID have in your life who filled that role.

The funeral will be Monday morning. I'm all for doing away with 2012. It was my 'marathon year', but this kind of trumps that experience.

And under the "Bummer" heading, tomorrow is my 23rd anniversary; I'll be spending the evening at the funeral home, greeting visitors. Hubby feels badly; I keep telling him that's life, baby. We married for better or worse.

Sorry to be such a downer. The good news is that it's GOTTA go uphill from here!!

emoticon Good Morning Runners!

JERI: Running for the joy of running is an awesome reason to run! Enjoy your new music!

BECKY: It sounds like a HR monitor is a good choice. I agree, you have come a long ways. Awesome!

CHRISTY: Your 2013 goals sound perfect. Depression is no fun.

TAMMY: I do not want to be a leader of another team. Luckily this team already has several leaders so it isn't as though you are leaving the spot empty.

***

AFM: I did get a checkmark yesterday for running. It was a tougher run, but I did it. This month will be the first time I've ever logged over 100 miles... well, that is if Monday's long run goes as planned.

Good Morning everyone!

I agree that 2012 was a tough year. I'm hoping for a much better 2013!

The weather has not been very kind to us. We had about 4 inches of snow yesterday which made it quite slippery. I haven't been out running or walking in along time. Now it's suppose to be very cold for the next week. Definitely Jan. weather!

Christy-I avoided pics when I was heavy. I'm sure there are some out there somewhere and someday someone will pull one out and show me, but right now I don't have any to put on
here.

I had decided that whatever weight I was at on Christmas Eve, was the weight I was going to maintain at. I wanted to lose 2more lbs, but I put on a few during the holiday's so I need to get those off before Jan. 1. I don't want to have to say I need to lose weight come the first of the yr. It will be the first time in yrs. and yrs. that my goal has not been to lose weight. My goals this yr. will be to run a 10k and then a HM. Along with getting out and trying other activities. As long as I stay active and eat right, I shouldn't have any problem maintaining or even dropping a couple lbs.

Busy weekend ahead. Tomorrow we'll be taking all of the holiday decor. down and cleaning. I'm looking forward to getting rid of the clutter. Then DH and I will be working on getting rid of the rest of the clutter in our house.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Hey running buddies!

Christy - I totally understand the depression you are going through. So many changes at work and the shock of your boss' death. It is a lot to take it and to adjust to. And now your back... I hope the prednisone makes it feel better fast! Love your goals for 2013!

I know I have not been around much. Work and wedding planning are keeping me very busy. Running is still going very well for me - it is keeping me sane.

I am thinking about stepping down as a Road Runner leader - anybody interested in taking my spot? :) I will be active on Sparks, don't worry! Send me a private message thru spark mail if you are interested in the spot.

Jeri-so sorry to hear about your friend’s husband. How sad and a tough road ahead for the wife and son.

Deej-hope the therapy is doing good still and you’re well on your way to recovery.

Beckyanne-glad to hear you had a good dr. appt. Two pounds to goal weight, so awesome. You’ve come so far! I would love to see some before/after pics if you have any. What an inspiration you are.

Irene-I can certainly relate to the hectic life. I’m so sorry to hear about your FIL but happy to hear he/you/your family are surrounded by supportive care. Still not easy.

Hello to Tammy and Beth!

A belated Merry Christmas to everyone. I’ve finally decided that I need to admit that I’ve fallen into a depression following my bosses passing and the added stress. I just was not in to Christmas this year. It dawned on my yesterday that I only bought two gift cards after his passing, the other two gifts were purchased for dh in October. Other than that, no gifts were bought. That’s not like me at all.

And the snow arrived with a vengeance! We have over 3’ on the ground. Fortunately the next 7 day forecast shows little more coming. Unfortunately, I messed my back up AGAIN shoveling snow the first day. After a week of suffering I finally saw a doctor. I’m on a load of Prednisone for 8 days to get fix the lasting effects of Sciatica. If this doesn’t work then I go in for an MRI. I’m praying the Prednisone works. Day 2 down and it’s a little better.

All of that depressing stuff being said, I’m ready for this year to end. It started out bad, had a great high in the middle (HTC) and then went down hill again. I’m ready to make 2013 my comeback year. I’m going to work less, stress less, run more, read more, less tv and get my healthy living back on track and reach my goal weight.

OK, enough rambling from me. I also will be checking in here more. I so enjoy the interaction on this team and have really missed all of you.

Christy

I am downloading a bunch of new running music. My running partner has decided to do her own thing for marathon training, so I need something to listen to. We are at such different levels of fitness and motivation, this is best for both of us. It's a relief to not have to worry about someone else's pace.

She woke up one morning and threw away all her excuses...

My main concern for getting a HR monitor is to see if I'm working too hard or not hard enough. I've had a few issues that make me wonder if i'm working too hard at times or if the way I'm feeling is just normal. I've got questions I need to discuss with my Dr. next week. When I first started on this weight loss journey, I used to always be short of breath. There was always that little hesitation in me that I was going to have a heart attack, so I wouldn't push myself. Then when I had my abnormal EKG and went thru the stress test and heart cath., I found out that although my EKG is not normal, my arteries are in great shape. That gave me the encouragement to push harder. I knew then that my weight was the problem. Now I've been having heart palpitations and they could be from alot of things, but they're holding me back a bit again and until I've been told I'm ok, I'm going to be concerned and not work up to my potential. Hopefully the Dr. will be able to put my mind at ease.

It's a snowy morning. We shouldn't see much, but it is making for slippery roads. I have alot of laundry to get done today. Plus I need to get on the treadmill.

Enjoy your Friday!

Heart rate monitors are very useful. I think I'm ADD, though. I don't want the numbers clogging my head. I like simple and to the point, how fast/how far/can I breathe. That could be why I'm not improving?? I'm just sort of staying the same.

I wear one all the time.

It originally had to do with a combination of 2 things.....

1) fear that my hr will get too high
2) just to affirm how much I was pushing myself during a run.

Now I wear it for training purposes....

There are many websites that will determine your HR zones if you know your max HR and also your resting HR.

Objectives:
Between 60% and 70% - fat burning and re-energize glycogen stores
Between 70% and 80% - develop oxygen transportation systems
Between 80% and 85% - Improve lactic acid threshold
Between 85% and 90% - Lactic Threshold
90% - Speed work

Now that I develop a training plan I often run at a pace that encourages one of these objectives - depending on any run. I can tell if I am working to hard or not hard enough.

For me, it is a great tool.

Check out Brian Mac's website.

Also read a book called HEART RATE TRAINING by Roy Benson that has encouraged me to do this type of training occasionally.

TMI, maybe.....

I never wear my heart rate monitor. I figure I can tell my heart rate by how well I can talk during a run. I've got one that goes with my Garmin, but I just don't have the desire to use it. I tried it at first, it doesn't fit me right, or something. I'm very small around my chest (not around my boobs), and it slides around a lot.

No I don't. DH and I were looking at them online yesterday and doing some comparing. We'll have to look into them more.

I had a good workout yesterday. Waiting for the temps to warm up a bit so I can get outside.
Today I'll be on the elliptical. Afterwards, I have to take my DS to the Mall shopping. Not really looking forward to that. Just hope it isn't too busy.

Have a nice day!

Good Morning!

My stomach still feels like crap after the stuff I ate yesterday. I'm going to workout as soon as I'm done here and have eaten breakfast.

I'm thinking about getting a HR monitor also. I've got 2 Dr. appt. coming up and I'm going to talk to them to see what they think. Both of my Dr.'s are runners so I'm hoping for some good input from them.

All the stores are opening so early this morning, but I won't be going to them. I don't need anything except for laundry soap, etc. and I can get those anytime.

Have a nice day everyone!

JERI: You are such a character! I love the idea of dressing like Santa!

BECKY: You and me both..... today is definitely a needed workout day!!

*****

DH and I had a nice day yesterday. We went to the "dollar" theater yesterday and saw "The Odd Life of Timothy Green."

Today plan is an easy 5 miles. I spent part of yesterday and early this morning setting up the new Garmin 410. It has a different HR monitor that does not seem to be adjustable at all. How strange. Hopefully the band will not stretch out too much. The part with the battery in it snaps on and off the band. It is supposed to be removed when not in use to save battery life.

Jeri-Cute pic!

Jean-Sounds like a nice Christmas!

I probably should've worked out today, but I had decided to give myself the day off. I allowed myself to eat whatever I wanted. My system can't handle it anymore though. I ended up not sleeping well last night and have had a headache most of the day. Just feel yucky. Looking forward to having my hot cereal and salads tomorrow. Plus getting a workout in.

I hope everyone has had a nice Christmas!

Jean, nice present to yourself!!!

I ran 10.25 miles this morning. It was fun!! It's been a long time since I've run by myself. I dressed in Santa clothes. I looked like I was an elf trying to catch up to Santa. Hahaha... I took it easy today, and just enjoyed myself.

Have a beautiful day, everyone :-)

emoticon Merry Christmas team!

Yesterday's run went very well. I did 8 miles total. This was suppose to include 11 - 800s, but I counted wrong and only did 10.

Today.....
Will open gifts this morning. Mine is the Garmin 410 I ordered myself. LOL!

Then play with the new gadget. I'm thinking I will miss the larger display on the 305, but at least the enter button will work.

Will call family.

This afternoon we are going to the show and then finding someplace that is open to eat dinner.

Have a merry day!

Good morning.
Irene, I'm glad to see you back. I'm sorry you are dealing with the final days of your father-in-law. It's very difficult to lose a loved one, and especially to watch him decline. :-(

AFM...
This morning I ran 10 miles with my running partner. But guess what. It was only 4 miles. Uggghhh... We are NOT running well together. I have a Christmas play to attend this morning. My grandchildren are in it. After we get back from that, I will run 10-12 miles by myself. It took us 49:24 to run 4 miles this morning! This girl is young, and she's got excellent running form. Her very first 5K (3 years ago) was less than 30 minutes. She has gone backward in her running. She has not improved in 3 years because she won't put in the effort to improve. I just don't get it. That's okay... I'll just run by myself. The days are getting longer, and I'm good with being by myself. I'll go to Lexington (an hour away) once a month and run with a group. I'm very frustrated. Really. Very frustrated. It's not that I'm speedy gonzales or anything, but I can't bring myself to go backwards.

She woke up one morning and threw away all her excuses...

Good Morning!

I am done going to stores!!! The grocery store was nuts last night. DH will have to go and get dinner rolls tomorrow, but that's all. I'm tired of shopping. Every time I go, I end up spending more money than I should. We will have to make do with what we have. If I've forgotten something too bad!!!

Today I have to clean and do laundry after my workout. I want to make sure most everything is done before tomorrow.

Have a nice Sunday! It will be a cold one here!

Hey all, it's the long lost Canadian popping by to say hello, eh? LOL

Sorry I've been MIA, but with the crazy semester I've had, there were no two ways about it: Something had to give. And I'm afraid I'm going to have to disappear again for a while...I think of you all often, and wish I could linger here more, but there just aren't enough hours in the day.

Two quick updates: running has been sporadic through Nov and part of Dec - mostly averaging once a week, though I had a really busy week once when I got three runs in with different folks at work. That was nice! Tons of snow here now, though, so it's going to be trickier to navigate. That will continue to be the case through the winter. I won't be giving it up completely, but I must confess that I anticipate becoming a 'fair weather' runner until the big melt. Oh well....

My FIL is in a real bad way. We don't know how much longer we will have him with us, but I believe it's now more a matter of days than weeks. It has been a tremendously difficult journey, but we have met many angels along the way, thankfully. His visiting nurse is a wonderful young woman, with intense eyes and a beautiful smile and she cares for him well beyond the dictates of her duties. Also, his palliative care physician is a superb woman who addresses her patients' every need with grace and kindness. So while this has been painful and terribly sad, we are grateful for the incredible care that he has received. I just thought I'd give everyone a reminder to be thankful for the angels in our lives. We sure are.

Christy, on that note, I do feel for you and for your colleagues. Losing someone is never easy, but it seems that much more harsh when the person leaves the world in the prime of his life. My condolences.

Hope to catch up again before too much longer.... Will have to be playing this one by ear.
In the meantime, Merry Christmas to those who celebrate that holiday. Happy Hannukah to others....

Best of the holidays, everyone!

Good Afternoon!

We had a bit of excitement this morning. When I opened the front door at 5 a.m. a bird flew in. It flew upstairs so we opened the patio door to try and get it out. It took quite awhile. The poor thing had to tire itself out and fly lower before he flew out. DS got pics of the bird sitting on top of the star on our Xmas Tree. I guess we had our own version of a Partidge in a Pear Tree.

Went grocery shopping for some of the stuff for Xmas dinner. Still haven't decided on everything, but I wanted to get the ham and a few items that I knew for sure.

It's very pretty outside right now. The sun is shining and I always love the blue sky against the white snow covered hills. I just wish it was a bit warmer. At least the roads are in pretty good shape.

Jean-It's taking me 57 min. to do 5 miles right now. I wish it was faster, but I shouldn't complain because a few weeks ago it was 70-80 mins.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Friday and I hope you all have a great weekend. I'm sure it will be busy for many of us.

Good morning! Last night I ran 5 miles in 48 minutes. I was good with that. It was a treadmill run because nobody would run outside with me.

My grands are all at their Aunt Shannan's house in Cincinnati for a few days. Shannan and JD will bring them back Saturday, and we will have our big family Christmas.

Becky, a white Christmas will be nice. We're probably going to have a drab-weather Christmas, but that's okay.

Jean, you are going to do great with your HM. Your training has been right on track!

Deej, you will definitely back back to running. Nothing can keep you down for long.

Christy, I do not envy your snow.

Beth, I have to admit I had "vacation envy."

Lynette, pop in more often, girly. We miss you!

emoticon It's a snowy morning!

Kids have a snow day from school today. We could see close to a foot of snow when it's all done. We're definitely going to have a white Christmas.

I had a good Dr. appt. He wants me to really consider maintenance now. I told him after the holidays which he agreed. I only have 2 lbs to my goal anyway.

Another treadmill day today.

Have a great day!

emoticon Hi team!

JERI: Sorry about your husband's friend.

BECKY: University fitness centers are usually first class. Enjoy!!!

DEEJ: Glad to hear you are recovering. It takes time. I think you should share your "secret recipe."

****

Had an easy 5 mile run yesterday.
I feel fairly confident that I will break my previous HM PR in February (if all is aligned correctly), but I am still leery about being able to run at the suggested race pace - which would be a "hard" effort for me. I guess I keep repeating myself about this.....

I have to remind myself - there are more reasons to run than breaking PRs.

Today....
Reading....Bridge.....Groceries

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been absent so long. Life's a bit hectic but things should settle down after Christmas.

Jeri, I'm so sorry about your friend! So much sadness right here at the Holidays :( I have a cousin in her final hours as well; she's about 3 yrs or so younger than I & dying of colon cancer. Heartbreaking! I read where you're going to do a 100 run/100 day challenge. That's quite a challenge indeed! Be careful out there & enjoy :)

Lynette, just read your blog. What a great effort & a fantastic finish! You should be very proud :) I know you didn't get in as much training as you'd hoped for but you did fabulous in spite of that!

Jean, you sure are getting in some great, long runs! Wow! I'm very impressed!! You're so wise with your training. Hope your hubby feel better soon & you avoid the bug!

Beth, so sorry to hear about your Uncle as well! Never a good time for such a loss but especially hard at Christmas. So glad you enjoyed your vacay... I'll have to drop by your FB page & check out your pics!

I'm still in recovery mode and incredibly busy. I'm seeing a Sports Chiropractor & really like him. My only experience with a Chiro didn't go so well & I've been hesitant so this is refreshing. He's using both the Graston Technique & ART on me & taping my foot each week which allows me to go "bootless". Next step is to transition me out of the taping. It's a process. There was way too much scar tissue & it's slowly breaking down with Graston; hurts a bunch when he does it but I feel we're making progress... finally. I was injured 2 months ago tomorrow. Feels like forever since I've run :( but I'll be back...

Becky, very cool you found a coat for your DS. I ordered an IU T-Shirt for my DIL from Penney's & I don't think it's going to make it in time :( disappointed.

Christy, hope you'll get a reprieve soon! You were busy before; I can imagine since your boss's passing you're even more so! I'm hoping to be healed up soon; we'll have to get back out there together :)

My husband & daughter drove to Bloomington tonight to watch an IU game, I drove out to my Son's & made up a batch of our family "secret recipe" hot cocoa mix with my Grandsons; they're excited to take it to their teachers. I have Court tomorrow so turning in soon. Everyone have a great evening!

Good morning! It's a blah day. Yesterday a running buddy's husband had a stroke and died. They are my age. Her husband was a lot like my husband -- not a runner, but comes to every race just to cheer. It made me so sad for her. They have a teenage son. That guy was a great example of husband and dad. So loving and supportive. It really hits home when people your age start dying of weird things like strokes and heart attacks.

Anyway, enough of the sadness. Last night I was supposed to run 5, only ran 3. Tonight I will try to run longer. Hopefully, I can get some people together and go for a Christmas Lights run. We'll see.
