My daughters and I belong to 24 Hr Fitness, all clubs, but mainly go to Mall 205. Aquafitness is a fun class, probably age 30-50s mostly and adds variety to workout -
I tried the Treadclimber for the first time today -- Really liked it, but have to work myself up in minutes! I prefer to do strength training at home and like 10 Minute Solution videos for that.

I usually only go there for weight training but I have taken a spinning class once...bout killed me! LOL! I also did a 30 minute Ab Blast class back in March and it was great. Unfortunately, my schedule is pretty up in the air so I am usually unable to make it to their classes.
Thanks Mojojojo2! Hey, are there any classes at West Coast that you can recommend, or do you mostly just use machines? I went to a yoga class there on a Sunday when I had the free trial, but it was a substitute teacher, so it's not a good test.

My gym is my apartment, I sneak off to a different room to do my exercises. when we get a house we plan on putting together a home gym I would rather make monthly payments on a bowflex than a gym membership.
My work gives us discounted memberships at 24 hour fitness down town but i've heard from coworkers it's stuffy in there and that is a big no go for me. plus they do not have water aerobics which is my favorite thing ever.
I am currently a member of West Coast Fitness and I find that most people don't wipe down the equipment like they are suppose to. One guy comes in and leaves a puddle of sweat on each machine before moving to the next and it's gross. I've been bold enough to hand him a towel, but he doesn't use it. Other than that, I've really had no real issues there.
There is a smaller 24 hr fitness on 4th and Jefferson (across from Wells Fargo) that may be a better fit for you than the one in the Pearl. There is also a Bally's downtown and a Curves on Lombard by Peninsular so you have a few places you can choose from. Good luck!
I was a member of the WestCoast fitness and went to the location you are talking about. It is an okay place but the locker room is not clean enough. There were ants and it just was somewhat icky. The equipment should be better for the price of the membership. I belong now to LA Fitness and first thing in the morning is a really good group of people. Just my two cents. ive been to several gyms from down by la to north cali and now here... the fairview bally has the nicest and most well stocked womens weight room ive ever seen. they have some older machines, so you dont get the air ones or the electronic ones.. just the old school - adjust the weight manually ones. but hey, thats cool.
any time i dont have to hop on an obliques machine after a sweaty old man... im down! even if they wipe it down, it creeps me out! haha.
several treadmills, ellipticals, cross-trainers, stair steppers...
i was really impressed.
now i just need to go!

im actually in troutdale, so i go to the fairview bally. it seems like its a lot of men pumping iron and watching themselves in the mirrors, although their womens gym section is completely separate and is actually well equipped.
but i do like bally. i just need to go more often!

the looks I get at the gym seem to be from really skinny chicks when they realize that I can keep up with them. mostly because I use much higher resistance than they do and they'll do it for like 10 minutes and I might do it for like 30! lol

5 lbs of muscle simply takes up less space than 5 lbs of fat!

The 24hr in that area probably is a big hookup place. If there is another one closer to you I would recommend that. I've had a membership for 4 yrs (that I used to use occasionally) and they have classes everyday and stuff like that and a pool, and then you can go to anyone of them instead of just the one location. I don't know anything about the one that you are talking about, it sounds like a local place, but if you liked it and it had enough benefits and is affordable then it's probably worth it. IF you think you need a gym membership. I personally never should have gotten one but I keep it because i hav a very very good price and i guess I might use it some day. I would like to go to the classes sometime when i am in better shape and less embarassed to even be seen in a gym. Thats sort of ridiculous I know, but I'm doing just fine working out at home.

I am considering joining West Coast Fitness (the one on Lombard closer to St. Johns - the big one). It's relatively inexpensive and close to my house. I did the free 1-week trial, and it seemed fine, though not spectacular. Does anyone have experience with this gym? How do you like it?
I work in the Pearl and also have the option to join the 24 Hour Fitness there, but a.) it's more expensive and B.) I heard it's a meat market. Would love feedback on this gym, too.
