Speaking of which...Yes, you should go on a cruise! Ive been on 15 cruises now...my last was at October to the Southern Caribbean -- and Ive booked another for next October out of San Juan...so much fun!
Lisa/Robin/Chuck -- Thanks so much for your responses! Hopefully we can find (or coordinate) some local activities that interest a number of people ... I think the goal is to redefine the wheel rather than recreate it -- and keep it moving!

Would you be interested in cooking an "agreed upon SparkRecipe (virtually) with one another one a month/quarter? maybe...would have to think about this one. I find many spark recipes do not fit with my lifestyle/nutritional choices.
If you belong to a gym, which one? LA Fitness Pearl, though I can use any of the Portland/Vancouver LA Fitness gyms
Are you interested in participating local SP events (e.g., walks, gym buddies, community 5K events)? Sure, I've enjoyed the walks we have done in the past.
If you are interested in local SP events, are you interested in participating in community 5K events as a SP team e.g., Biggest Loser, Hood2Coast, Shamrock Walk/Run. (note: these events have a signup fee)? Yes, I'm already registered for RnR Portland and Ragnar NW Passage.
How do you get your fitness in (e.g., walking, running, gym equipment)? Running, walking, elliptical at home, and I need to get back into the gym for weights!
What inspires you to wellness? I want to be as healthy as my mother when I hit 90.
Other interests? Photography, music, theater, ballet, symphony, local food scene, local wineries, local breweries.

My name is Chuck and live in Aloha (next door to Beaverton). I have been with Spark since 2009. During this time I have found myself fully dedicated and fully off the program. I do however log onto Spark everyday. For me SparkPeople is one of the best sites out there today...and it is FREE. The Merchant idea world be a good idea and has been tried before in other groups. It was tough since SparkPortland takes in many suburbs and travel and time got in the way. As for learning about healthy options I find SparkPeople Nutrition articles very informative. If someone runs across a good article and post it to the forum for discussion it would be most helpful for me. There is nothing wrong getting together from time to time as a motivator. Our team leaders Gayemc and CBaileyC have formed some meetings in the past that worked out well.
I belong to a Gym, 24Hour Fitness, started at the Hillsboro gym but have been to several others in the area. Great gym with all the amenities.
I have joined a few community 5K events and other events with Spark members. Lot of fun and would like to do it more often. I have done the Shamrock Run, Turkeython, and Race for the Roses. I ride my motorcycle safety patrol on the Hood2Coast for the past 8 years. Once I get on a planned fitness program I normally workout at the gym. My equipment of choice is the treadmill, recumbent bike ad row machine. I will workout with weight machines (my least favorite) because it is necessary. I use the aerobic to train for 5K's, but for the past year had to lay off the running due to knee and shoulder problems.
My main inspiration for fitness is to live a better healthier life. I ride motorcycles long distance so endurance is a main factor. I find the more fit I am the more alert and enjoyment I get out of my hobby. As of Dec.26th I am back on the Sparkwagon and trying to stay onboard. I have a goal to lose 40 lbs. by May 14th.
My name is Lisa and although I don't *technically* live in Portland, I do live in Beaverton and I assumed that was close enough to join the club. I definitely think it could be fun to get together at local merchants (although my participation might be based on how much pocket money I have available at the time since I'm out of work at the moment, but the more advance notice the better). I love the cooking idea and would definitely participate in that one!
I don't currently belong to a gym, but might join up with one of the budget gyms (Crunch, Planet Fitness, something like that) once finances stabilize and the New Years rush dies down! I used to be a member of Diva Den in Tigard, and would also consider that if I get a good job soon.
The local SP events sound awesome and I would totally go to something like that, as long as I didn't already have plans that day. Maybe I could even talk my husband into going. Joining an SP team for a big fitness event also sounds awesome, but my participation in something like that might be based on finances. Once again, the more notice I get the more likely I'll be able to make it work.
Right now I get my fitness in primarily by doing workout videos on youtube (my favorite is blogilates). I've been thinking of starting to train for a 5k, but haven't yet stated (however I do have a nice pair of running shoes I bought last year for my first 5k that I haven't used enough yet!)
What inspires me to wellness is a little strange. I've never been good at sticking to ANY long term goals, so just the idea of picking a long term goal and achieving it is motivation enough in and of itself; just proving that I can do it. Looking a little better for my 10 year high school reunion doesn't hurt either, as well as wearing a swimsuit without having a huge complex over it.
My hobbies mostly center around cooking (especially baking) but still learning how to work this into a more healthy lifestyle. I'm starting to learn computer programming as well (but JUST starting, so I don't really know anything yet, haha!)
If so - Take a minute to share some info with the rest of us - Together we may be able to take the lead on what 2014 will look like, both beginning and end!
