I joined the Couch to 5K challenge so that I can at least say that I have walked a virtual 5K, if not participate in an actual one later this year. This is also the first step to converting to jogging for me. I am half way through the program this week. I am stoked!

This is my first day on Spark and glad to find the SparkPortland page. Goals for August (and into Sept since it's so close) are:
- Walk 3 miles at least 4x a week
- Plan and prepare what I will eat and when (healthy snacks have helped me in the past)
- Start using Spark regularly (need to spend some time ID'g how to best use it as I already track via WW)

LindaM, this break in the weather is so nice now isn't it? I hope, with fingers crossed, we're done with any form of the 90s for the year!

JGKenny, crazy stuff. That was the eye-opening thing for me when I first started SparkPeople - realizing exactly how many calories were in certain foods.

I was shocked when I went to starbucks the other day. Got a small non-fat chai latte and a small piece of banana bread and the whole thing came to 600 calories! I bought it for a snack . . . needless to say, I learned my lesson.

Letsbefitt emoticon isn't it amazing how many calories are packed into those drinks? I used to enjoy them as well, but decided I'd rather enjoy chewing my calories instead.

August goal - STOP drinking my calories, finally started checking the daily nutrient reports and was astonished at how many of my calories are empty. (mostly coffee drinks)

I've been way from SparkPeople for about 3 months. My goals for August are to get back in the groove, get refocused, and continue on my journey.

- Stick to my half-marathon training plan (running the PDX half-marathon in October)
- At least 30 minutes in the gym on non-running days
- Limit eating out to 2 meals per week
- Lose 8lbs by September 1st. This is ambitious, but I believe that a lot of what I have gained in the past 3 months is water weight and will shed quickly.

Debteveldahl, great goals! I like the 10 minutes a day.
Have you heard of or checked into Couch to 5K? It's a great program that helps people progress from walking to jogging. SparkPeople has a few teams for C25K, you could find them by searching.

My goals are to exercise more than 10 minutes per day by using exercise videos and getting out and walking more than I have been able to do lately. The major goal is transitioning from walking to jogging, something I had wanted to do last month, but things got away from me. I also need to lose at least 5 pounds this month.

My goals are eating within my calories, and hitting my goal of 80 g of protein per day. I'm also trying to incorporate an exercise routine back into my life. I am visiting a physical therapist on Monday to start a program to rehabilitate my knees! They have been bothering me for awhile, so I'm really looking forward to this appointment!

My main goal is to lose 10 lbs during August!
