Good Point, WATERFELON

Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it's a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they're terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

I ask a variation of the first question. Rather than ask if the farmer grew the produce him/herself b/c that's an easy yes/no which can be practiced, I ask where the produce was grown. If there is any hesitation in answering, I almost always move on. I understand that farmers sometimes swap produce among themselves to create more offerings, but it still means the farmer isn't choosy where he/she gets their diversity so I am less likely to trust them. I'm all for supporting local farmers, but they're business people first, just like any other industry. I have to be even more skeptical of the people who provide the things that go in my body than out of it!

Yep! It's good to be a smart consumer when it comes to farmers markets.

Thanks for the link! What a great article, and great questions. I added them as a Note to my Crackberry and will whip it out when I venture next to a farmer's market.
