When I was in the 4th grade (1979), I wrote a poem for Oregon's birthday, called "Thank you, Oregon." It ended up in the Oregonian newspaper, and later became the theme of a school program that was done every year at Rockwood Alder Elementary School.
It was, I tell you the truth, horrifically bad.

My dad grue a beard also. The big wood building by where wards was in North west Portland is where my grandparents and I went square dancing. At 8 I did not bring a partner so I watched.
I remember the Centennial also. I was in grade schooland the big thing in stores were grannie dresses that we got to wear in school.

Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul
I remember the Oregon Centennial. I was 14 yrs old at the time. My dad had grown a beard for the first time in celebration.
