Linda, I'm glad to hear he's feeling better!
Gaye, I'm with you, it would be difficult to pry me off the beach I think. Ahhhh if only.. we need to play the lotto more, don't we??
Let's see.. for January, I ended up with a B- effort for fitness, missing 2 of 13 scheduled runs and 2 of 13 scheduled ST sessions. It's not a complete failure, but I could certainly have done much better!
My eating improved and aside from the apparent sodium bombs I subjected my body to, I've done alright in releasing lbs department. I'm considering eliminating either dairy or grains in the coming months as an experiment to see how my body reacts, but that's for another Goals thread some day!
I didn't have the best weekend, but thanx to a BLC18 strength challenge I did get some good FM in and ending the month with mor minutes than expected. Of course 2 50 minute walks on the beach helped. Oh, to live at the beach. I think I'd get some good cardio in.

Alright, I'm here to confess. I skipped Thursday's and Saturday's run, and Friday's and Monday's ST sessions.
I'm back on track, with a short run on the treadmill last night.
I may have slipped, but I haven't fallen. I'm windmilling my arms, trying to maintain my balance and keep moving forward!

Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

Mia, you're absolutely right! Start off right, and build on your successes. You can certainly do it!
Annie, I could have used a MA meeting last night. I was well fed, comfortably so, had even had a nice snack for the evening, and was just fine. Until.. I saw someone with popcorn on the tv, and then it was all over for me. Ugh! C~
My goal this month is to stay focused on eating health and watching proportions, as well as working out each day for at least 30 minutes but hopefully more :-) Simple but starting the new year off right :-D
always, ~Mia~

Yes; tired, stressed out, nervous, bored, lonely, angry, etc. Any of those emotional situations can weaken a resolve to not eat when we aren't really hungry. Even a feeling of hunger can come upon us when we know we have been well fed and don't really need anything at the moment. I struggle with these tricks of my soul all the time

Good for you with running goal... Keep kicking
I think you are correct.... maybe I should remind myself nothing taste as good as I want to look. It is funny certain foods just trigger that craving and other sweets I can walk right by without difficulty. Maybe I should make sure I am no tired or stressed when I get those cravings. Thanks for the encouragement.

Way to walk off the temptation Patti!
I have that problem sometimes with Bill - he'll bring home cookies, chips, ice cream, chocolate, on and on. I avoid for the most part, just saying 'it's not for you' and sometimes that will work. Sometimes, not It's tough, but I try gently explaining to him that just because he doesn't need to lose any lbs doesn't mean he should be eating that cr@p!
Sometimes that will work. Sometimes, not LOL I guess the best thing to do is just remind yourself how much more important you and your goals are, compared to a fleeting taste of some random food that will do you no good what-so-ever.
As for me.... I have 4 of my 13 runs done so far this month. Feels good being on track! C~

I have a question for the group. What do you do when someone brings food home that is tempting? I have put it out of sight but sometimes it gets the better of me.

I have such a hard time going to a gym. My solution is to go to Volkswalks in warmer weather and work on their challenges. The other success for me was a treadmill already set up and ready to use.
I am so happy you found a Groupon that will support your goal. That was smart. I need to pay more attention to those.

Oh I love maple bars, good thing I never buy them!
I've been wanting to join a gym for a long time but just cant find one that fits my hours, finances and living area. Until today. I just got a Groupon for Empower Fitness and think I'll give it a try. That is one of my goals for 2012. Decluttering is another.

Narrowly averted those Maple Bars. Walked 2470 steps without trying (okay it was 2 dog parks trying to avoid those maple bars) and Shelby (dog) had a nice morning. The best news is those Maple Bars are no longer calling my name. I do not have the craving. Yeah!

There are Maple Bars in my kitchen...oh no! If I didn't have 4 other people living in this house with me those bars would be in the outside garbage right now. Feeling too much temptation with them in the house. I love the taste of Maple. Going to the dog park now.

Although I am returning to SparkPeople after a break I am motivated to work on small weekly accomplishments. So I joined the Healthy Challenge, agreed to exercise with my friend, attend yoga starting next week and eat more fruit/veggies and drink more water. All lofty goals but I can pick and chose each day how many I want to tackle. Looking forward to a good 2012.

Linda and HealthyAdventure - great goals! Perfectly do-able. I look forward to hearing how you do over the days to come.
I have signed up for unlimited 30 days of yoga, and will be going to our local yoga center for frequent classes several times a week! The idea is to kick-start an ongoing yoga practice. I am also planning on running a 1/2-marathon at the end of summer / early fall with a girl friend, and have started training today. Excited! :)

www.sipjuicecart.com incredable kulk once a week. Go to the gym once a week, three miles. Put the puppie on his leash just to give him a treat, in hopes that some day we can go for walks. Eat more than once a day. sipjuice.com

Annie you lost your Thistle! Good goals for the month, and all year.
For me.... I'm ramping back up into my Half training again. With that, I'd like very much .. strike that. I WILL make EVERY scheduled run this month, short of a medical emergency or natural disaster. That means a total of 13.
Eating must come back under control again. Even when I start upping my mileage, I need to keep the calorie range to a reasonable level.
I'm also going to work on improving communication with those around me. This has been a cause of much stress last year, so in 2012 this will be improved and other causes of stress will be eliminated. For this month, I will be plain, concise, and verbal in as positive manner as possible about my opinions, wants, and needs.
Yoga 3 times a week--early in the morning, first thing! Eat more sensibly (lots of veggies and hardly any sweets and simply not so much eating, period.) And even more important; love my dh better And put more time into reading the Bible and prayer (actually the most important thing of all!)
