Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

Way to go Inspired2Aspire! Well done!

I completed the Girlfriends Half yesterday, so that goal is done and finished. emoticon

Now for a bit of time off from training, a visit to Texas to see my sister and her kids, then back to finish out the month.

I can't believe it's the middle of the month already. I'm still working on trying to up my cardio and strength minutes. I'm also missing the summer fruit so I'm going to need to pay more attention to that. Hope everyone has a productive and ha[[y weekend.

CBaily, I've been cleansing too the last 2 weeks (both colon and blood) and I feel more energetic and my bloating has totally gone away. I've been juicing veggies and a small amount of fruits every morning and sticking to healthy and fresh whole foods. I've eliminated grains completely and I KNOW that has helped tremendously.

I'm hoping to lose 2 pounds by the end of October from where I am now. I want my clothes to fit lose and comfy again.

I agree, real soda (as bad as it is) is better for you than diet soda. The results of the diet soda chapter are in and it clearly shows that diet sodas don't help anyone lose weight much less, get healthy!

There are some soda brands that use stevia and/or xylitol.

Virgil's is part of Reed's Inc. Unfortunately, they don't say a lot on their website about their "Zero" line--they are a retail site. I have been getting it through my co-op. I've seen it also at my favorite health food store. My teenage grandsons and other young people that stop by always tell me it taste's great! So I keep a stash for those occasions. I'm not a fan of sodas myself but I know that lots of other people are pretty hung up on it.
Here's the Reed's website if you are interested:

Stevia is my favorite!! I read a while back that it is the only one that the american diabetes association recommends. the other thing I do if I really am craving soda, I will buy sierra mist natural or the coke/pepsi that is made in mexico or the "kick back" because it has real sugar and not corn syrup....now I am NOT recommending regular soda but if you cannot live with out that drink at that time, stay far far away from HF corn syrup. so good luck with it all!!

Yes, every step in the right direction is a big plus--keep stepping.
I have read that Splenda is also toxic to the body.
You might start (just a little at a time) to put lemon juice and a few drops of organic liquid stevia extract in a glass of water or your water bottle. The newest varieties are way improved in taste and strength. I've been using Now brand "Better Stevia" and I just love it. I sweeten a lot of things with it. In case you are unfamiliar with what I am talking about here's the website that I buy it from (LOT cheaper than in any store)

www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-Certified-Or
ga
nic-Better-Stevia-Liquid-Extract-2-fR>l-oz-60-ml/9891?at=0

It comes in different flavors and also in powder.

I need to do more research on the artificial sweetener I think. It is everywhere in a lot of sweeter low cal foods. It is really too bad. I have found that a lot of the low cal foods have more sodium too. Darn it. Oh, well. One thing at a time. I am losing, and living better so that is good! :)

I totally understand about the DC thing, I have the diet cola problem too-it's my only sin. One of the things that makes DC sooooo bad is aspartame (artificial sweetner), when i get a diet cola now I get one with splenda (not great still-but better). diet coke does make a version with splenda but it is hard to find. Shasta (WinCo) and walgreen's brand diet cola, both have splenda (go figure it's the cheaper brands). I also try to substitute something like vitamin water zero (contains stevia) or the "Eco Drink" that they have at Costco. Neither are diet cola but they really are not a bad substitute.

Good Luck!!!

I am doing great staying on track with the nutrition, had one off day but still recorded everything at the end of the disaster. Had to stay keeping responsible for my choices whether wise or not so wise. I am happy to say that I am 1/2 lb down from 15 lost pounds (that I never want to find again) :) I love living a better life and am really looking forward to when I reach my goal. I am inspired and motivated every single day! The Diet Coke.. ahhhhh, yeah. I have not given it up.. yet, I drink a massive amount of water daily though. I know the DC is NOT good for me at all. It is the only bad thing I am doing to my body right now, and I know it is major because it is so toxic. I am thinking of switching to Hansens or something.. maybe I can just start drinking juice or something, something. If you have any suggestions on what would give me the same feeling as DC, please let me know. Great Job to those that are keeping up with thier goals and also those who fall and pick themselves up again! :) WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!! Have a very happy week!

Yoga is awesome. It was raining this morning (at least in my neck o' the woods) so I'm wondering if you got bendy or runny.... uhm.. runnish!

For me, revamping means changing things up. I've been running steadily, in training for something, for the last year. After this Sunday, running will take a back seat. I'll continue to run, and run in 5Ks (note I didn't say 'race' just run) but not in training mode. I'm going to take that training time and split it up into different endeavors... like more yoga! And getting back to kettlebells and x-trainer. I feel like running has consumed me, while I've consumed lots more food/calories for fuel, and I've been basically stuck at this weight for the last year. I need to get the number on the scale, and the fit of my jeans, moving in the right direction again!

I'm also going to shake up my nutrition efforts, starting with a two week cleanse. If what you're (generally) doing isn't working, it's time to try something new. That's my plan!

This rain has dampened my spirits towards running around the track but I'm back to doing yoga like a champ in the wee dark hours of the morning. I was all set to go run but as I started out the door the rain was coming down so I just went for a couple of sessions with Rodney Yee instead. If it's not raining tomorrow morning at 6:30 I'll try the running thing. Otherwise it's yoga again and that's actually pretty cool too--love it.

Good for you to be staying on track. What's the "revamp"? Got me curious.

Hey Mischelle emoticon welcome to SparkPeople, and the Portland team!
I was a confirmed Diet Pepsi addict for a very long time, so I know how it is to kick the soda habit. You can do it, though, I know you can.
Just remember water is your friend! Heh.

So September was actually a good month with only a few good slip-ups. Let's see if I can keep up the good run. I made a decision to try masters level bodybuilding in the spring which comes with a whole new workout focus. So I guess I will just wake up every day and actually treat it as a new day-if I slipped up a bit the day before, well, that's in the past.

Here we go!
Everybody rock this month!!

Well, I hope everybody (else) did great in September. I sure fell off my wagon! Fresh month, fresh start and I'm crawling back on to the wagon today. Gotta do this; tired of the regrets and intestinal discomfort from a too full belly.

The only really good thing that I started doing in September was getting out and jogging/walking around a local school track. No jogging this morning, just walking because the old piriformis/sciatica problem has flared up again. Too much sitting here at the computer and not watching my posture. And then going out and running as if I'm 35 years old again...aaarrrg! Sixty five is not a good time to JUST jump up and GO!! Gotta start slow and stretch a lot. This piriformis thing can really cripple a person; oh boy! I should get my yoga practice spun up again; it always brings relief and healing.

Okay, onward into October!
