I didn't get all my minutes logged on this thread, but I did log them, 1363 for November. I had to back off my upper body strength last week due to a pulled neck/shoulder muscle.

Sorry we didn't beat Seattle but they just had their marathon on Sunday so I'm sure they racked up some extra minutes. I will drop them a congratulatory note.

As of Yesterday I have 3,038 fitness minutes logged in for SparkAmerica Portland. We are still behind Seattle but we need to keep plugging away and eventually some of them will tire out and we will pass them. There is always December. In fact the whole next year is packed with months, 12 of them! emoticon emoticon

My pedometer croaked. That's really cramped my style. When I have to guestimate daily mileage, I oft err on the conservative side. I just know that from experience. Also, my mom's been in hospital for a week. That's changed some things, too. I started back into strength training and then dropped it again.

I don't think I'll meet my 3339 minute goal. BUT I am at 3057. There is another day of the month.

I am sort of bummed. We've been 8 on the list for a while. And that other city, S------, is above us on the list.

I ran a half marathon today for 127 minutes and have included minutes for november -

this week was crazy! busy...busy....busy

11/2 - 90 Minutes - Ran 6 miles with a 1/4 mile walk afterwards

11/3 - 80 minutes - P90X
11/4 - 170 Minutes - Running and some walking - Ran 12 1/2 Miles. Plus 100 pushups, 100 crunches, 100 squats, 100 seconds Plank. BL team challenge for today!!!
11/6 - 5 mile run 9:33 pace 48 minutes with a 5 minute cooldown for 53 minutes
11/9 - 3 mile treedmill run, Eliptical, Stair master and Upper body and Core ST - 127 minutes
11/10 - 1 mile treadmill,25 min bike, 45 minutes St, 20 min rowing - 100 Minutes
11/11 - 6 mile run 60 min, Recumbant bike 25 minutes, Core ST and stretching 30 minutes. 110 minutes
11/12 - 45 minutes Eliptical, 45 minutes ST [Upper body} 90 minutes

November minutes: 1377

Most of my minutes are walking. I have done more strength training this month than I've done the last couple months, which was nada. Thanks for the inspiration and competitive prod!

Don't worry about all those walking and running events this months. Remember, Spark's counters stop at 120 minutes a day. That's all they count and that includes the 5 minutes stretching and strength and cardio. You can get credit for stretching more - you just have to find a calculator for that, like this:

Just checked the numbers. They're ugly. I will say, I just tracked this week's all at once. Hope we have other folks doing the same this w/e. But this spread is 4712. Hey, cheer leading burns calories and wastes fat, too!

I have a feeling we're in trouble. I just got this email from one of the Spark leaders, I had totally forgot about the marathon. (i'm headed up there Thanksgiving to see an art exhibit):

Keep in mind that Thanksgiving weekend is also Seattle Marathon weekend! The races (kids race and 5k on Saturday, marathon and half on Sunday) start and end at Seattle Center and the expo is on Friday and Saturday at the Westin, so those are the areas that'll get the biggest crowds. Maybe it'll pull everybody away from the art museum and leave you with a nice relaxed atmosphere? I'm walking the half for the second time, so I'll be in the midst of the crowds...

did I say I lived in King County and Seattle for about 22 years? so this is extra fun.

Candy, thank you - I do wear a sport watch with a pedometer. I'm on my feet most of the day at work and like getting credit for that. I tried using CardioTrainer and it didn't function at work. I figured I do most of my . but I slacked on strength for quite a while. I've been working up to a little again the last few weeks and this challenge is helping motivate me.

don't forget your s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g! Spark's calculators give you 5 minutes for stretching after cardio or during the day. you get that counted by clicking the "Stretch After Cardio" box where you track cardio. of course, the real reason to stretch is to keep yourself healthy and injury free, not just to cream Seattle. yeah, right, whatever. just do your stretching!

OK Team, I thought since we are working to beat Seattle, they should know what we are up to so I sent one of the team leaders an email yesterday. Now they know and we might be in trouble so let's get to work!

This was posted last night on the Seattle team:
Today one of the Portland team leaders let me know that November will be the second month that they've challenged their team to beat the fitness minutes of another city - US!

This is, of course, all in the spirit of a healthy competitive spirit AND whatever it takes to keep our butts in gear. As of this moment, we're #14 on the list of American cities and Portland is #18. We're two very active cities, so we can both do better than that, but we also need to keep in mind that Portland is looking for bragging rights... and we certainly don't want them to win, do we?

So, as you plan your fitness this month, if it helps to picture the Portland team snapping at our heels, go with that! LOL! Most importantly, have fun!

Between yesterday and today, Portland has climbed from 43 to 18 in the SparkAmerica Fitness Minutes Challenge. Seattle is still sitting pretty at 14.

I finished with 1129 minutes last month. I'm committing to 1300 for November. If I can stick to my strength training, and up my walking/running, I can make it.
