Lots of people do the Discovery Walks, even those with strollers, trails are marked, and you get a map, (and snack at a check-point for those doing the 10km or longer distances). Starts at the Hilton Hotel in Vancouver Washington (so it's nice and close). They have free entertainment (kids mostly) and booths from the local companies at the start/finish.
The Discovery Walks is April 25 - 27th.
Friday 25th (at 4pm the Mayor give a speech before the walk) but people can start between 4-6pm (as long as they finish by 9pm.
Sat 26th (die hard walkers 7-8am start the 42/32/21km walks) the rest start anytime between 8-12 noon for 5 or 10km walk (family fun walk 6km is at 10am) as they finish by 4pm
Sun 27th(die hard walkers 6:45-8am start the 32/21km walks) the rest start anytime between 8-12 noon for 6 or 11km walk as they finish by 4pm.
There is a website www.ava.org that tells where there are local walks on the weekends (trails always marked for the "hosted walks"), but there are maps/directions from local places for a walk that you can do whenever you want. It's a good place to checkout.
(They don't have any local walks this weekend), it's the Bridge to Bridge...to Brews Walk on sunday the 20th (info at www.terrapinevents.com )starts at the Widmer Bros. Brewery at 929 N Russell St. in Portland.
I like to do the ava and terrapin walks (the ava is just walking, the other gives lots of goodies to you and walks). But I also go to the foot locker stores (they have pamphlets from lots of local events and groups for walking events).
