The race benefits the Abertina Kerr Foundation, which works with children that have emotional/mental health issues.
As for walking vs. running, one of the nice things about this race is that there isn't a seperate walk, there are just pace groups. So, you can feel free to run/jog as much or as little as you'd like.
If you're debating, I say you should definately jump in with both feet. As you said, you can't help but feel proud when you cross the finish line. And, it's amazing the range of people you'll see of all different fitness levels taking part. So, don't think you'll be the only one huffying and puffing your way through.
