As sad as this is I'm leaving the Cleveland Team. No one is ever on here except for me and another person. I'll be transitioning over to the Ohio Buckeye Beauty Team.

Today, on my Spark Coach it spoke about eating out at restaurants and what are green light words and red lights words.

I always do horribly when I go out to eat. I don't care what anyone says I say 98% of the meals are very high in calories. It's depressing.

So, when I go out I order what I want but I try to eat mindfully and stop when I'm full. That way, I don't feel left out AND my calorie intake may be higher BUT I didn't go full bore on the meal and scarf it down.

What about you? How do you handle restaurant ordering?

Today, on Spark Coach they spoke about smart swaps that cuts calories. They also spoke about adding more veggies to each of your meals.

Once of my favorites, is a take a 70 calorie pack of tuna, and I have diced onion, diced raw carrots and diced celery. I do you 2 tbsp. of light may and toss that all together and put it on a piece of toasted bread. Whatever kind of bread I have on hand. I then pair it with some broccoli, and a small piece of fruit. Very filling lunch.

How do you swap or bulk up your foods?

Today, on Spark Coach it was about Who Inspires You. When I think of this unfortunately I do not think of weight loss but I do think about other things.

My Mom inspires me the most. My Father passed away when he was 55 years old. That left my Mom and a house of 5 of 8 kids left in the house. My Mom did not have a job (although through her life she did work but when Dad passed away she was not), she had no driver's license. She got us kids in gear and put all of us in a line and we all place stickers on Tip Top bread bags for money until my Dad's Social Security and Veterans' payments would kick in. Afterwards, she got her license and a great job. Through all that pain, sorrow, and the unknown, I never saw her breakdown once. She may have in silence but not in front of us kids.

My Mom is such a strong woman. Today, she is 85 and I'm so thankful she is still around.

She has inspired to be my best, to be strong and successful. She taught me if I fail to keep getting back up and trying again, and again, and again but to never stop trying. I guess me trying to lose weight plays in that one.

Anyway, She inspires me more than anyone in the world.

I feel full of dread too. I know you are not supposed to, but I do. It is supposed to be like second nature to you to get up and exercise. However, it still feels like work to me. Maybe I will get to that point where I will want to exercise, but for now, it is work.

Today, on my Spark Coach it was about when thinking about keeping up with your exercise program for years to come, do you feel excited, or full of dread.

I have to admit, I feel full of dread. I used to walk 30 to 45 minutes on my treadmill every morning and I love it and I didn't dread it at all. Well, my treadmill broke and I got it fixed and kept on walking. My treadmill broke again, it was deemed unfixable and was thrown away. I don't have the money to get a new treadmill so that ended that form of exercise for me. It was convenient and worked for me in so many way. That was about 4 years ago. I'm trying to save money for a treadmill but once again, life gets in the way and uses my saved money for something else. *sigh* Once of these days, I guess.

Anyway, it spoke fitness needs to last a lifetime. And then there were tips.

1.) Must fit in your lifestyle. Chances are if you are having a hard time fitting in 30 minutes of exercise a day then chances are you won't in the future so fit in time that compliments your lifestyle.

2.) Pick things you enjoy doing. Self-explanatory

3.) Remember your priorities. Sometimes, you won't be able to exercise, or something comes up that prevents you. This is normal.

4.) Exercise in morning, if possible. People who exercise in the morning usually are more consistent than not.

5.) Don't be an all or nothing exerciser. Self-Explanatory.

Fitness is not just about losing weight and looking a certain way. Health and fitness helps you in all aspects of your life.

Turtle, I feel like quitting all the time. And...I started back on SparkPeople about 54 days ago, and I lost 7 pounds and gained back 3 pounds. I really haven't gotten out of the gate. I just keep pushing on and putting it in the front of my brain that this is a process and a lifestyle change. I try and make small changes where I can right now.

Okay, so today on my Spark Coach it talked about making it an adventure.

It spoke about how many people (me!) approach weight loss, healthy eating, and exercise form a position of pain. Boy, is that so true for me!!!!! It explained that you have to make this journey more exciting by being kind to yourself and doing things that you enjoy rather then things you don't enjoy. Like different kinds of exercising.

Me, myself cannot look at it as quite an adventure. That may be my negative nelly coming out but I can't help it. This journey can be very overwhelming and when you throw in all the outside influences that affect ones life it's anything but an adventure. I'm changing it from "Making it an Adventure" to "Making it More Tolerable." I know that is no negative but I can't help it today.

Sometimes I feel like I am in the diet mode. I just feel like quitting because I don't feel like losing weight. I am content with the way I am right now. I know it is a lifestyle change and it is all in the way you eat, but there are those days. I just have to get out of that mind set.

Today, on my Spark Coach it talked about Are you Stuck in the "Diet" mentality.

Sometimes, I am. I think when is this going to end. However, most days, I do realize what I'm doing is a lifestyle change and that lasts forever. No, I may not lose weight all the time but I need to take care of other aspects of my life too.

The differences between Diets and Lifestyle Changes:

Diet:
1.) All about the numbers...scale, calories, etc.
2.) Reaching Certain Weight will create happiness
3.) Short-Term

Lifestyle:
1.) Looks at bigger picture
2.) Being overweight is the result of other problems
3.) It's forever. Takes care of you emotionally, physically, and spiritually
4.) Come to terms with emotional eating, body image, etc.

I'm all for the lifestyle change. Sometimes I'm not ready to lose poundage, and I just want to get used to healthy eating. Does that make sense? I guess what I mean is sometimes, I want to tend to my other needs and not just how many pounds I have lost. I'm done with dwelling on the numbers.

What is your experience?

To change up my routine I use different videos. I do not have a standard routine. I switch up every day. It keeps my body guessing what I'm going to do. The only constant that I have is that I usually walk 10 minutes a day.

Today, on my Spark Coach it spoke about changing up your work to continue challenging your body. I haven't really started working out yet but when I do I think it would be a good idea to change up my workout every 6 to 8 weeks so I wouldn't get bored.

Don't Be Afraid to Ask for Help! This was the topic of my Spark Coach today. I have to say that I only ask for help on Spark People. It seems that whenever I ask for help from family or friends they try more to sabotage me. Weird! So I don't tell them when I'm trying to make healthier choice I personally have found this works better for me.

Like I said before I do get my help from the forums and people from Spark People because I do believe one needs a team of people for this journey.

What about you?

I try to choose whole foods, but like you, I too will choose those non-whole foods. I have been doing much better with my whole foods though, especially at home. I make a lot of meals from scratch. I am trying really hard to change my life style to a more healthy life style.

Today, on my Spark Coach they spoke about choosing whole foods for your health. I eat quite a few whole foods. When it comes to my menus I truly try to keep them simplistic. I usually eat a protein, veggie, and a whole grain. Sometimes, I choose non-whole foods like sweets and processed foods. Here lately, I have been choosing non-whole foods and my body is letting me know by gaining weight, headaches, and achy body. I know when I'm eating right because I don't have these issues.

Today, on my Spark Coach they talked about staying motivated for the long haul.

When I first started my weight loss journey 31 days ago I was so motivated. The first 2 weeks I was a rock star and I lost 7 lbs. The 3rd and 4th week in and I went from an 80/20 eating plan to a 50/50 eating plan and gained back 3 lbs. I have to own up to this so I can move forward.

I have not been as motivated as before and only 2 weeks out of the gate and I'm starting to fade. I still have a spark inside me because I still believe that trying everyday to make healthy choices and "hopefully" seeing a positive outcome it better than just throwing in the towel. That is something I WILL NOT DO.

So...hey you 3 pounds that crept back up, I am going to kick your butt!!!! LOL

Today, on my Spark Coach it was about creating your perfect workout plan. As of right now, I really don't have a workout plan. I have really been procrastinating in this department. I know for a fact, I will not do 60 minutes of exercise a day forever. I just know it. So I'm going to have to figure out what I should do.

I did find this women's XBX workout that takes 12 minutes a day. I know I can do that but of course I haven't started it. I'm a HUGE PROCRASTINATOR regarding exercise.

I'll figure something out that is for sure. I mean I have tried the XBX and I always feel great afterwards and I sleep better so you would think I would just do it! But...you know what I'm taking about.

I have had a lot of setbacks in my time on SparkPeople. I stopped beating myself over them and learned from them. I am not a perfect person and I will make mistakes. It is really hard when someone makes something that you really, really like and you just cannot help yourself but to have some. There goes your calories for the day. Then you sit there and say oh why did I do that. I do not do that. I just go with the flow and pick myself back up and start fresh again. Like you said it is a long journey. I may not eat as much as I used to of the food, but I will have some. It is so good. I love to eat and that is my biggest problem. I need to realize that I eat to live.

Today, on my Spark Coach they spoke about how to bounce back from setbacks? I encounter this all the time. I think okay I goofed so I'm just going to keep on going and start fresh tomorrow. However, this time around I have realized that if I goof and overeat my calorie allotment then oh well. Once I realize it I try and minimize the caloric damage but I no longer beat myself up over it.

We just have to keep remembering that we will make mistakes. That's life! Sometimes, we will go over our allotted calories because of a special occasion...so what! We have a life to live and weight loss is not an overnight change but a long journey that has no end. It's our new way of life. So find joy, happiness, and your sense of well being in just trying your best and recognizing when you go over and just positively more forward from there. DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP OVER IT.

Bringing up a previous Coach session...Consistency not perfection! That plays into setbacks too!

Today, on my Spark Coach it spoke about emotional eating. When I'm stressed or anxious I do not eat at all or very little but...when I'm bored or depressed that is a different story. I eat, eat, and eat.

When I suffer from boredom or depression, I need to step back and take a deep breath. Actually, I need to take a lot of deep breathes and get myself in a more relaxed state. Once that is done I need to analyze why I want to eat when I'm not even hungry. I think once I have control over the emotion I can walk away from it.

When I'm stressed I have a tendency to eat more so I start putting on the weight. Not a good way to be. I have to recognize the situation so that I can control it and find another way to relieve my stress. I do not want to use food to comfort my stress.

Today, on my Spark Coach it spoke about stress and how it can affect your weight loss goals. In my case, I find when I'm super stressed I don't eat at or I eat very little and I lose quite a bit of weight. That's not healthy either so I do try and reduce any type of stress by trying to remain calm and focused.

It feels so much better now. Before it was constantly throbbing.

Okay, so today on my SparkCoach session it spoke about moderation. If you think about it moderation is the key to most things in your life so you can live a healthy, balanced life. Sometimes, I get so hung up on eating the exact amount of calories and etc. that it actually takes the joy out of my life sometimes because I'm so preoccupied on being perfect. This was one of those aha moments when I realize that this is a lifestyle change and it's something that I will be working on my entire life. So why not have some joy too. Eat moderately, maybe don't eat sweets during the week but have a sweet on Saturday after dinner with coffee. See now that is something I can look forward to.

Also, I'm finding that if I strive for perfection and then I don't lose weight for a week that I end up quitting trying to lose weight. This time around if I don't lose weight during a week who cares. Yes, my goal is to lose weight but I'm going to do it at a turtles pace because it's better to be 25 pounds lighter even if it takes me a year than being the same weight because I didn't try at all.

Well that is better than it being the crown. But having that broken tooth between the two teeth must have been very irritating. I know it would have bothered me tremendously. Glad everything is better now.

Oh, thank goodness it wasn't my crown. The tooth next to my crown had a cavity and a little piece of my tooth broke off and wedged itself between my crown and the affected tooth and was digging into my gum. That is why I was encountering that throbbing feeling.

They cleared the debris and filled the tooth and all is well again. LOL

I have an appointment to see my dentist today. One of my back molars, and I think it is the one with the crown on it is throbbing. It started acting up last week and I really thought I could hold out until May 19th when I was going in for my teeth cleaning. That isn't happening. It's starting to throb more and more each day. Time to see the dentist. I hope it's not going to cost me an arm and a leg.

So the weekend didn't end in horrible disaster. LOL. I did eat more last week and over the weekend. I get so hungry the week before... Anyway, I didn't do as bad as I thought I would regarding the scale. I'm still at peace! LOL.

This week is already starting out better. I'm riding this train.

Vanessa, I think we are the only two people on this board. This is so sad. When I joined SparkPeople many, many years ago this board had a nice group of active members now it's just so sad.

This week has been a little rough on me. I looked at my calendar and I figured out why. I don't think I need to explain. LOL.

Thank you!

I found this exercise I'm really excited about. It's called the XBX Plan for Women. The XBX (Ten Basic Exercises) Plan is an exercise program developed for the Royal Canadian Air Force for women. The program consists of charts that get progressively more difficult, and takes 12 minutes per day after users get past the beginning levels.

I started yesterday, and I felt really great. I won't start an exercise program that is so way out there and takes an hour a day because I know I won't be able to maintain it. So, I found this and I can definitely work this into my life.

Good for you. That was good news. You did an excellent job, even with the Klondike bar. You should be very proud of yourself. Keep up the great work.

I did fairly well at the staff luncheon. I had a piece of chicken, salad, broccoli, and I had a couple tablespoons of mashed potatoes and pasta. However, I did have a Klondike bar afterwards. Compared to what usually happens at these staff luncheons I did good. LOL

How did the luncheon go? Did you overeat or did you maintain your goal of not to overeat? I'm on pins and needles here waiting to hear back from you to find out.

So...today we are having our monthly staff luncheon at work. I ALWAYS overeat at these things...ALWAYS. Today, I want to break that trend. When I get to the luncheon, I will look at the offerings and choose wisely. Then I will only eat until I'm satisfied. Right???

At least you realized why you were eating those foods and can be more aware of it. Things like this happen and we just realize why and move on. You are doing an excellent job. Keep up the good work.

Yesterday evening, I ate 3 chips ahoy and some veggie straws. Looking back I realize that I did that because I was bored and lonely. My hubby is out of town. Now that I know the reason, I can do something about it if the urge hits me the next time!

So yesterday I ate more spaghetti than I should have but it's not something I will be eating all the time. And...it didn't derail my weight loss.

On another topic. Has anyone ever tried Halo Ice-Cream? It's really pricey but low in calories and oh so delicious! LOL If I decide to have ice-cream, I only eat Halo, which isn't very often but if you want some ice-cream it's a good option.

That is great to hear LAURENGOODHEART. One of the hardest things to do is lose weight and to beat the weekend when it usually beats you is excellent. You go girl. Keep up the fantastic work. You are a great example for all of us.

Usually on the weekend, I tend to think it's a free for all because I was so good all week. Then what happens? By making horrible choices during the weekend I totally screw up all the work I accomplished all week.

This weekend will be he 2nd weekend where I crush the weekend and the weekend doesn't crush me!!!!

Yesterday, went pretty good. I didn't exercise and I really need to find my motivation regarding that topic. LOL. Baby steps right. Since it's warming up I would be more inclined to just take a walk around the neighborhood and get my activity in that way.

I love salads but I tend to put so many more extra calories in my salad with the dressing. So, I started trying using different spices instead. I use a little bit of salt and pepper, which is a given and then I usually use Mrs. Dash Table Blend and my salad takes great. DO NOT USE Mrs. Dash Original on Salad, I decided to use the original instead of the table blend on my salad yesterday, and it was absolutely horrible. LOL. That will teach me!!!

My problem is I start off really good and I'm eating healthy, losing weight, and even feel 100% better physically, and WHAM!!!!! Out of nowhere cravings begin. I'm talking about a complete breakdown where all I think about is sweets, chips, and all the things that made me gain weight in the first place.

It's like something inside me is dead set on sabotaging me. Guess what? "It" usually wins.

Does anyone know why something like this happens. I mean it comes out of nowhere, and no matter what good food substitute I use it NEVER, EVER satisfies me.

Spent a lot of time before the rains came working out in the yard. Still so much to do! Rain, rain, go away while I'm still motivated!!

Went to grocery store yesterday and bought staples for a month, now I need to prep them all and get what needs frozen in there!

I got a new blender a couple weeks ago (my old one disintegrated) because it's just about Smoothie Time!!! Berries were on sale this week at Marc's for a good price so I stocked up, but what happened to the price of bananas?????

Got my toe lifts and "sinkups" in this morning, ready to pick up my weights.

Have a good Saturday in the rain!

New to this site. Go Cavs!

I workout at home and take some recreation classes at Tri-C West. I'm over 60, so they are free! Register now for summer semester, maybe I'll see you there!

Late getting my morning routine in today, but it's my day for weights and I'm always slow to pick those up, lol. Also have to get out and mow the lawn before we have 4 days of rain!

I do what I can to stay active most of the time, and I've lost 50lbs since last January. Most of that was gained because I was on high dose prednisone, and when I got the dose lowered, 30lbs just sort of fell off! What a motivator!

Hope to make new friends here, since we all know Cleveland!

Yes, I know. I didn't get overweight overnight either. I need to get better portion control myself. My goal right now is to not gain weight. For the last three weeks I have gained weight and I would like to stop doing that. But setting small goals is a good thing. Sometimes when you look at the big picture it can be so discouraging.

*laughing* Oh hush! But yeah, you are right! Unless...I learn to manage my portion control. That would help. What can I say I'm a work in progress. It didn't take me overnight to become overweight so I'm not going to lose all my weight overnight either. All I can do is one day at a time.

Although, I do have periods of elation and then it's like I bottom out and feel like my goals will never happen. I get so bummed when that happens. So this time around I'm setting small goals. At this point I would love to lose 20-25 lbs. If I didn't lose anymore after that I wouldn't mind.

I know how that can be with the Christmas Party. All the food looks so good and you just have to have a little bit of everything. Before you know it you ate so much you might as well not eat dinner, but you eat dinner anyway. You start feeling as big as a house and you sit there and say never again, but next year you do it all over again. LOL

That sounds painful falling off a stability ball. Hope you didn't get hurt really bad. Glad you were able to do your spin class though.

I know how hard it can be just trying to watch your portion controls. I'm still trying to watch my portion controls and have a tendency to eat to much. I know how you feel about the chocolate chip cookies. I ate one today too. Didn't feel guilty about it at all. However, it did put me over on my calories. Actually, it wasn't just the cookies fault. I just ate too much for the day. I will do better tomorrow.

Good Morning Team!

Well yesterday wasn't too bad. I really watched my portions and I never felt stuffed once. I did splurge on 2 chocolate chip cookies last night and I do not regret eating a one. LOL. I guess this time around I'm trying to teach myself moderation. I want to be able to enjoy ALL things in life and that includes chocolate chip cookies now and then.

Leaving on vacation! Italy!!! So excited!

My daughters and my amazing mother-in-law are going with us. My older daughter's boyfriend is house/dog sitting for us, so the homestead will not be empty. Probably won't have any wifi access for the 10 days we are gone, so have a great end of the month!
