ApplesBananas, you would most certainly fit in! There are riders of every kind, on every bike imaginable. The pace along the route is in the 10-12 mile per hour range, and everyone is just out there to have a good time. It's like a parade!

There are some very speedy bikers who you will see racing up the outside of the crowd, but they are the volunteers who help to stop traffic so that the bikes can go by. Some of them also stay with the back of the crowd to watch out for people having problems or in need of encouragement. It's an amazingly friendly event.

Don't be intimidated by the bike shorts and jerseys, either. Lots of people are there in regular shorts and t-shirts. This is very casual! Please join us for the July ride! Everybody! In fact, we could all choose a meetup spot on the square to gather the biking Sparkers!

I have a couple of songs to suggest for you Apples - go to you tube and search for "What I am Sesame Street" by Will Iam. I love that song when I need some encouragement. There's also a really cute, inspirational Pixar short called "Boundin' ", but I couldn't find a good English version of that on youtube. It was part of a collection of shorts that I got on Netflix for my kids once; very helpful when you need a little oomph!

Shelly - I probably won't do the 5k because I'm trying not to spend too much money on races this summer. It's a silly excuse but I have a budget to stick to and so I'm being picky about races.

MissG - I keep hearing about those critical mass rides, I am a little scared I wouldn't fit in since I'm such a casual bike rider and I don't have a "serious" bike for being speedy. Truthfully I'm pretty intimidated by people who are really into biking, those spandex shorts and tight shirts look a lot flashier than my mesh shorts and t-shirt! I'm curious to know a little about the atmosphere of those rides - would I be able to fit in? One of my coworkers said she'll go to a critical mass ride with me, but we're both in the same boat when it comes to being intimidated.

As for me, I'm having a good weekend. I went with my family to the new casino today after a cookout, it was pretty nice, and I came out $26 positive, which was great. My grandma loves the penny slots... I take after her : ) I went to Market Garden last night, I had been there before for beers but never for food... I actually found the food underwhelming (I got the black bean burger and substituted a salad for fries). It was fresh and tasty, but really not awesome. I'll just stick with beer next time. Their BBQ popcorn rocks though.

I am sort of kicking myself for signing up (to run and volunteer) for the Bay Days run on the 4th of July - I joined the Cleveland West Road Runners at the expo for the Cleveland Marathon in May and the road runners club is hosting this race... I signed up to volunteer at the registration table at 7:30 a.m. then run the race at 8:30 a.m., and I am just nervous it will be sweltering hot and I will wilt. I really prefer to run early before the sun is beating down. I'm also nervous to be at the registration table, I don't feel very confident right now to represent a road runners club when it's my first activity with them. I think low confidence has been my theme this week, maybe going there and getting a good time would be a confidence booster. Is anyone else doing that race?

Hi! It's really short notice, but Cleveland Critical Mass is doing their monthly ride tonight from the downtown area, and I will be there with my daughter. Meeting up in Public Square at 6:30, taking off for Kamm's Corners at 7. At Kamm's Corners, there will be valet bike parking, drink deals at some of the bars, and water available at Carol & John's Comic Books.

I went last month, and it was fun and impressive to see 400+ bikes strung out along Euclid Avenue! If you can't come this month, they ride on the last Friday of every month. They have a Facebook page with all the information.

Won't help for July, but there is a Cleveland Clinic family 5K walk/run scheduled for August 4th in Independence. Is anyone planning on participating?

I hope everyone had a good weekend in this beautiful weather!

I started riding my bike again (1 day, but it's a start) on Thursday, and I can't wait to ride more, I'll keep it to once or twice a week for now. Running is going well for me too, I am enjoying not having ankle-deep snow or rain to run in! I bought a new water belt last night at Second Sole in Rocky River, and it's sort of big on me but I was scared to have them order in a Medium because it might have been too tight. My waist measurement was at the maximum for the Medium but at the smallest of the Large. I might get crafty and add a little extra velcro to it so that it fits a little better, we'll see.

I missed the Larchmere porchfest yesterday, did anyone go? I need to mark my calendar for it next year, I had the link in my "favorites" but didn't realize it was already yesterday.

Does anyone have any active events to meet up at in July or desire to have a sparkpeople meetup in July? The June meetup fell through, but maybe July will have a better day. I'm willing to meet most weeknights, maybe we can start brainstorming a get-together for something healthy.

I hope all of you are doing well!

I used myfitnesspal online for a while, but I really like the Sparkpeople trackers (nutrition and fitness) better. With the nutrition plan, you can click on any of the items listed and a list of 'substitutions' will come up. I like that because one the failings I've noted of other 'meal plan' type deals is - you have to buy a package of cream cheese to have it once for a snack, then you end up throwing out the rest of the package, along with all of the other perishable stuff that you only needed for one serving. The ease of substitutions means better planning and less waste!

I did the 28-day bootcamp using the videos online (it would have been easier with a DVD!) and I loved it. I just can't find the extra few minutes now with my other exercises to do it, but when running calms down this fall I'll probably do it again, let us know how you like it! I think day 1 each week is the hardest... it really revvs up my heart rate.

I actually just discovered that shopping list feature yesterday, I think if I have a good week of eating some day then I'll print it out, it wouldn't be helpful after some of the junk I've eaten this week : )

I'm having a pretty healthy day today, I ate 2 packs of oatmeal for breakfast instead of one because my stomach was growling so much... could have done a lot worse! Today will be my first day of the season breaking out my bicycle, I've been putting it off for some reason, I need to just get out there to remember how much I love riding it.

Hope everyone is having a healthy week, enjoying the heat!

Printed shopping list from meal plan. What a help that is! Taking my three girls to visit G'ma and her jumpy dog in Grafton today. Bought the Sparkpeople 28 day boot camp DVD at Target last night.

I'm guessing this board is pretty quiet because we are all out enjoying the summer weather. Let's not forget to post the events that are going on in town!

A busy weekend - strawberry festival in Bedford, went to the movies, Shaker Square Arts Fest, a little yard work, visited Mom & Dad. . . Now it can emoticon

I'm going to be riding a emoticon before the week is out. I'm excited - for the exercise and the gas savings! emoticon

What is going on next weekend? Anything you want to share?

Shelly - I am always amazed at how much fat and how many calories can be packed into food at restaurants. Planning ahead, or just eating 1/2 of the food brought to the table can help, but its still tricky for me to eat at restaurants. I usually try to do either an appetizer, bread, or dessert, not more than one. An egg white omelet loaded vith veggies and no cheese is usually my best bet for doing ok at breakfast, that is if I can resist ordering pancakes or waffles.

Turtle - would a snack about 1 hour before dinner be helpful for you to take the hunger away so dinner is a smaller meal for you? As for late night, maybe just have a few options that you can eat at night so you know you're eating for hunger and not just for the fun of it. I know if I have ice cream, pretzels, chips or cookies at night its not really for hunger, but having yogurt, cottage cheese or a bowl of cereal is safe for me to eat without overdoing it, and it satisfies. Night eating usually isn't the healthiest choices, make sure you keep some easy stuff in the house that you can eat if you are hungry at night.

Im having a great weekend, we went to Parade the Circle yesterday and I had a good run this morning, now my husband and I are just chilling with the cats. We are going to make grilled pizza for our first time tonight, I'm excited to try it!

I'm enjoying the weather after I come home from work. I'm not planning on taking any days off this month.

I've been tracking my calories and I do pretty well for breakfast and lunch, but dinner seems to be my downfall and late night. I seem to always want to eat more at that time. I'm really trying to keep within my calorie range but I've been eating over my calories for the last few days. I've been drinking lots of water to try and compensate it for food, but it isn't working. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Wow. I'm visiting my Mom with my 3 daughters at Put-in-Bay island. I just ate what I thought was a 'healthy' breakfast, entered it, and it ended up being 579 calories! Sheesh! Next week, I will definitely take advantage of the option to print a grocery list and stick to the suggested meal plans as much as possible. My own sense of what should go together is clearly a bit off!

Hi everyone! Hope you're all having a good June so far and taking advantage of the nice days we've been getting.

Does anyone have anything good going on this month?

I'm looking forward to taking the 18th off (a random day, nothing planned) to relax and have some time to myself. Other than that, no vacations this month or anything, just regular life!

Hope everyone's doing well.
