My wife doesn't exactly understand my dietary needs either. She refuses to believe I am a diabetic, but my tests continue to show that I am, though as I said before I am really doing a good job controlling it.
The problem with Lean Cuisine and the like is that it is very high in sodium which can lead to high blood pressure. It also uses a lot of pasta and such which unless they are multigrain are going to burn right through you and you'll find yourself hungry.
The thing that has worked best for me is to play with the food journal section. Give yourself a list of things you have in your pantry you might like to eat and put each one of them in (I realize this takes some time while you get used to it). and find the one that satisfies you the most and fits inside your boundaries.
Is it wings you love? ME TOO! I love them! I now make sure if I am going to have them I make 3-5 of them and then have a dark colored veggie (sticks with your body longer) and a fruit such as an apple (with skin so you get the fiber). If you eat three fruits a day that have skin that you eat, you will have all the fiber in your diet your body needs and VERY few of us get that.
I cook up a 10 oz package of broccoli or spinach, or whatever I want to eat and I just precook it.
Get deli meat out of your diet. High in sodium and junk your body doesn't need. cook up a chicken breast and shred it for a fast protein snack or a sandwich.
He wants to go to McDonalds...take something along with you for YOU to eat. Point is take control of your diet. You can't effect change in him unless he wants to. You have to control your own. It's all about planning. I buy a lot more fish now such as Tilapia, salmon, and cod. I t can be a little fatty but it's good omega 3s just eat 3-4oz of it. I'll cook it up with seasoning and crumble it up into a multi-grain pita and presto, 5 min lunch I can eat on the go.
I'll add more recipes as I figure them out. We are all trying to figure it out, just remember you have to focus on your health.
