I have a few Dracaena marginata. They are like little palm trees. They love humidity so in the winter I water them alot. I've found that you really can't overwater them!

Here in Tidewater Virginia it is used in the media and does very well without much water and poor soil

I got it to use as a ground cover and never got it planted before winter set in so it is still a potted plant till spring.

Ginger, I had one of those many many years ago. I loved it, it was so pretty when it was blooming! I think it was called Bridal Veil.

Here is what I found when I googled it:

17. Tradescantia

The tradescantia is known under several different names including wandering Jew, wandering creeper, inch plant, Tahitian bridal veil, and Purple Heart. It has bright green leaves that are oval shaped. It also comes in green and purple, purple and silver, pinkish-cream and red, or red with silver stripes. The leaves are an inch long and spaced about an inch apart on a spindly stems. It also produces small flowers with three petals.

The tradescantia is so easy to grow that it is classified as a weed in many areas. This plant will tolerate poor light if it grown in a rich soil. However, its colors are more intense if it receives more sunshine. Its soil should be kept moist.

Wandering jew I have not had that plant in years!I have a plant in a hanging pot that reminds me of one but the leaves are way smaller and it gets these tiny white flowers all over that remind me of babys breath! It likes bright light no direct sun!I think its a relative of the wandering the way it grows down down down!oh and the small leaves are green on top and purple underneath.

I have it in the shade now and that may be why the purple has become a light lavender instead of the deep purple it is suppose to be.
But it did get the flowers so I thought it was doing well

did yours have flowers? I am just glad it has survived it was a cutting from a friend that has passed away and I am just trying to make it a beautiful plant like the one she had.

I am not very good with indoor plants and thought I might try putting it in the yard this summer, in a shaded area.

I also have a angle wing begonia but it has never had flowers and for awhile all the leaves fell off and I though for sure it was going to die.

So I moved it to another location from a indirect sun window with bright light to the back mud room on the north side of the house andd it has recovered very nicely

the only house plant I have that has flowers right now is a wandering jew, I put the potted one in the garage and the one cutting I brought in is growing in water so now I have two of them.

They have small pink flowers but the purple stems have faded to a light lavender. The one planted in the pot is still a dark purple but no flowers

All of mine did really well this year! They started blooming right after Thanksgiving and are just tapering off now.

There are 3 things needed for your Christmas Cactus to bloom:
1. Bright, indirect light throughout the year.
2. At least 13 hours of total darkness at night to set the blooms.
3. Colder temperatures, also to set the blooms.

Kitchens tend to be warmer and have the lights on alot, at least in my house! I have two in my kitchen and one doesn't bloom because it doesn't get enough daylight. The other one blooms because it is right by the window and so is in a colder zone. We keep the thermostat set between 64F and 68F during the winter and that seems to be cold enough for the rest of the Christmas Cactuses in the house.

The warming pad keeps the dirt at an even temepature and that helps keep them alive and instead of watering you need to spray the dirt with a mister of warm water. I am just working outside in the yard because this is the first warm weather we have had for awhile

I have a heated garage that I winter potted plants in and I bought a calf warmer at the seed store. My dogs lay on it when they come in from a cold day.

I cam going to buy another warmer to plant seeds in the garage, tomatoes and peppers I don't want to pay almost $5 for a 6 pack at the nursery

we are suppose to have weather in the high 40's today and I am excited to be able to get outside and do a little work perhaps it will hurry spring. The daffodils think it is already here

one of the local garden shops is offering 25% off if you bring in a poinsetta. Since I have mostly garage plants I thought of buying into the trade.

I was thinking of some ornamental cabbages just to have some color and they would go well with the pansies

We do not get much of a Winter here. I still Have beets in the ground Mulched really good. They look fine even with this cold. Next year I want to try a cold frame so I can have greens all winter.
Warmed up to53* here today but I was working so missed it. I did get to feed the critters and haul fire wood in in the warm sun :)

I don't feel complete without doing yardwork and it makes me fall behind if I am not out there everyday

sometimes when it is cold I work in the garage on the house plants

my potted tomato plant still has fruit and I have one plant that is still flowering I haven't got the heart to cut it back like i need to ....that would be admitting that spring and summer are really gone and it is indeed winter, soon though

our winter comes in late January and Feburary and by March we are into spring and the daffodils begin

oh i miss the smell of the yard when it is in bloom

our overnight temps were in the low 40s and I was realy happy to get out into the yard and pull slugs one of my favorite past times

I also caged the gardina bush so i could cover it as I need to this winter

I took in the hoses and put them in a rolling trash can; I am going to get out there again tomorrow they say it will be in the 60s

I took my houseplants into the garage and they seem to be doing well

I want to repot them but my potting soil has fertiilzer in it and I don't want to stimulate the plants. I want them to be dormit and have been watering them only once a week and cut them back it seems to be working

Just as we in MN have to bring plants in and cover with hay or other bedding material after a killing frost those in the south need to move plants to a shadier area so they don't dry out or be prepared to water twice a day or more and still might have burned plants.

I am gathering my chives to freeze for winter use. I have already dried my basil. I have a garden to move..will pot plants up and move to garage if I can't get them into the ground...I hope to at least sink the pots into the ground in the new area.

We have 3 perennials in pots outside: a long-blooming bleeding heart, a Miss Manners obedience plant, and an Asiatic lily. We'll probably cut them back and put them in the garage for the winter. We're in the mountains at 1900 feet and get early frosts. We don't have much outside space, hence my love of my plot in the community garden. For now I have a flower box on the deck railing with 3 small potted mums, and a big potted mum on the front porch. As we know, they will not make it far into November. I don't like the smell of them, or I'd bring them in. Is that what you all do?

It is wet and windy temps in the 40's at night. Houseplants don't like it below 50 degrees. I just brought all my houseplants in and clustered my potted annuals by my kitchen door so I can see their cheerful blooms and cover them quickly if I want to prolong their bloom.
