I have never seen the robins hit the oriole grape jelly as much as I have this year. That is rather unusual isn't it?

HICKOK-HALEY ~ They always come back. I'll be away for two weeks vacation, leaving on Friday so my feeders won't be filled either. But I know they'll come back when I fill the feeders upon my return.

I was on Grand Jury Duty for all of April. Therefore, I didn't fill the bird feeders regularly. Last week I noticed that the House Finches were not around, and my heart was broken. They are so beautiful. I was hoping they would come back now that I fill the feeders everyday. Today I saw a male House Finch at the bird bath. It put a smile on my face. It won't be long until some more will show up!

That was a cute story!! We have a male red winged black bird that visits our feeders....which is pretty unusual I would think since they take to marshy areas best. We have a heart shaped plant holder that I put my humming bird feeder on just outside our solarium windows. Well as you all know these birds are VERY territorial and he caught his reflection in the window and was really going berserk putting on his threat display for that "other" male red winged black bird. He was so intent on his scare tactics that he didn't even notice my crazy little Jack Russell who had his nose to the glass of the window watching him. About the time I got my camera my standard poodle walked over and broke the whole crazy affair up!

today i was walking through the meadow when i saw a small flock of american goldfinch. i tried very hard to get a photo of one or two of them, but they're just too darn fast. plus, they blend perfectly with the yellow-green of the trees. after attempting for about 1/2 hour, i gave up. i packed up my camera and headed home. when i got home i sat at my computer and checked my emails. and, lo, right outside my window, sitting at my birdfeeder, were 2 goldfinch...happily sitting and eating...its enough to drive me silly! i'd love to hear your birdwatching stories - successes and otherwise. (and though i didn't get any great bird photos, i did get to see the red fox and get some nice pix of him!)
