Glad you are getting a small break Marty. Cooking and planning are hard hot work for sure.
Ugh we have spent so much money on cars this year. You need to have your car running though. We have had 3 flat tires this year. The one tire was replaced because we had the road hazard plan on it. The other Jimmy just plugged but the spare was toast. The truck had a broken timing belt :/ Thankful it was replace able and still runs fine. And my PT cruiser had the timing belt water pump and a few other things just replaced as maintenance OUCH Luckily Jimmy does a lot of the work himself.
Thank you for the lovely post card. I must say BC is gorgeous. Every time we are watching a show and look to see where it is filmed because we love the scenery it is BC. The film industry there mus t be pretty big.
Here in NM it has been very hot and muggy. The rain we were getting in the desert seems to have left us for the mountains. The garden is doing so well I have been spending lots of time in the kitchen putting stuff up for the winter . That is always a good thing.
Hope your new help works out . Hug Kind D for me . He is a smart pup sitting in front of the AC ;)

I am having a slight break.. Fed 130 hungry campers this morning and prepared 100 bag lunches. And then I drove to town and dropped the car off at the garage. On mom's birthday we took her a birthday cake in the afternoon and I got a flat tire. The tire is ruined.. I have all wheel drive and so I now must replace all four tires - two for sure - but all four because they are getting worn. While there at the garage doing a semi annual service and inspection.. Garage just called need something called a rotor and pads... Something is metal on metal and I'm told it needs to be repaired now..
Go ahead.. But I need the car back by 3:30 as I must return to work and cook supper. Today is BBQ day..
Delivery Truck is late .. It has been coming around 7 am .. Today I leave at 9:30 and no truck but I gave clear instructions to the new postion created this week to my dishwasher now front of house facilitator.
This position. Is a buffer between me and dishwashers - we are hiring one more person and having a rotating staff helper .. This facilitator will also be trained to serve some meals so I can have a break - ie - an afternoon and supper off occasionally - this is good if we have the right person.. Right now we do. A young 26 year old who is mature and responsible - and the owner after talking with me has made this transition .. And offered her a job next year if she wants to come back. Let's see how it works out..

Dalhouise likes air conditioners - he sits in front of our new one when we are at the condo.. And now in the car he get in between the seats and let's the cool air blow on him while driving with us. King Dalhouise is no fool of a dog.

So now I wait at home for the phone call telling me my car is ready and my visa is going to cry.

I hope you get some relief I hate that hot sticky feeling. Glad you found the AC . I do not think I could live here with out it. . We have been getting a lot of rain which is terrific but it makes humidity . not used to that in the desert. I sweat something awful when I am working in the yard.
Enjoy your days off Sounds like you have really earned them :)

Two hundred hungry campers everyday for the last two weeks... I'm exhausted. It has been extremely hot. The thermometer read 36 / 40 c everyday as well. At least I have been drinking lots of water.
At night there has been no relief.. Hot and sticky. My wife even has allowed me to have a fan.. She hates fans - says they make her sick. I shower .. A few moments later I am just as sweaty as I was before the shower.. So my point is.. My sleeps have been restles, waking up uncomfortable and tired.
But today and tomorrow I am off.. Time to recharge - to get some needed recuperation.
So off to Vancouver we drive.. Stuck - dead stop both lanes of traffic as emergency crews deal with an accident. I hope no one dies.. But it seems very serious. 45 minutes late we are on our way.. At least it was overcast and 20 c as we sat on the highway waiting for the road to open.
We are heading to Vancouver to buy an air conditioner if we can find any. We do a couple of stops in large stores to be told they don't have any left.. Not looking good for success ..
We go to Costco - my membership has expired over a year ago - we are hopeful they might have an air conditioner - nope - but I did renew my membership and get a new credit card. And a hotdog.
Ok onto the mall. Final stop with not really much hope of finding an conditioner - surprise - surprise - we go into Sears and they have just received a shipment of them. We buy one..
Service sucked - but I have it and now I'm just waiting to turn it on.
( it was laid down in my car to get it home so we have to,wait three hours before I plug it in and turn it on.). It better work....
Oh we came home - sat it up,right - went out to eat supper..
Now I'm writing and resting..

UGH poison ivy is the pits :/ When I lived in NJ I used to take a homeopathic remedy called Rhus Tox. You can buy it in a health food store. It won't prevent catching it but it does lessen the duration of the rash. I took it every day .My grandad you brown soap to wash with. He claimed that helped prevent it .
Hope you feel better soon. emoticon

That is too hot...

So it begins .. Again.. Summer camp is about to start on Saturday and we have 200 registered.
20 will be leaving two days later to go on a canoe trip leaving me 180 to feed three meals every day. This is a large enough number to cause stress.. Where and the world am I going to store all this food.
Right now at 6:30 AM I am expecting the delivery truck. Over 8000$ in supplies are on their way. And this is most for four days, with a little carry over. I will be going to a three day delivery, more stress as I have to stay on top of inventory and cooking all this food / storage, and reordering. Yes I do it all my self ...
200 people wow... 180 people for days on end.. Spring groups usually only have 180 for a day or two at the most and then they leave and the next group is small so we can bounce back. Now there is no bouncing back just. More and more mouths to feed.. Food to order, food to store, food to cook...

It was 104* here today. Doesn't really matter how hot it gets I still always have to go out and take care of the critters. Today I choose to clean in the house then went for PT . Ugh it was a nightmare when I got home . Had to do the goats . The birds are just laying in the coop :/
Hope you cool off soon. Not thinking we will here for a while emoticon

It isn't even cooler when the sun goes down here until way into the night. The early morning is cool enough to do things but by 8am-9am it starts getting hot again. When will it ever be cooler again.

Sorry to hear about your kitten, :( It has been terribly hot here too like walking into an oven. Thankfully I get done with work early and it is still in the low 80's when I get home so I can squeeze in an hour of yard work. Then I am forced inside until the sun goes down, they were joking on the weather report last night and said relief was on the way ,It would only be in the low 90's on Friday
Good Luck on your test .

Sorry I haven't been on for a while but have been studying like a mad man. Have finished my course in Medical Billing and Coding and now I have 2 certification exams and 1 proficiency test to go. We have been in a heat wave for so long and the heat nearly takes your breath away. I don't go out unless I have to. It has been in the upper 90s to the low 100s. I have lost my cat that I raised on a bottle when he was a kitten (Baby) to the heat and I was not a happy camper. Now I just have to study for these tests and so wish me luck.

21 days of work with no day off.. I am so ready for this weekend. But first I need to get through today. 85 people here for breakfast and lunch and 250 for a BBQ supper.
I hope to go to a movie, maybe find a geo cache or two, possibility of going to a bird sanctuary, and of course my wife wants to go to a mall to do some shopping.
Oh - my mother has been complaining so I must go visit her as well..
These are my weekend plans.
I hope you all are about to enjoy your weekend and have some rest too.

Stress no more for a few weeks... Today was our follow up health inspection. I had the kitchen, dish room, dish/ laundry room and my dey storage spotless. Two days of cleaning and wiping everything. It looked good - no it looked fantastic and we were feeding 100 people ( 230 people yesterday lunch) on top of that yesterday to boot..
She came and looked - then talked with me for two hours.. We have a couple of issues like a new cooler/ freezer unit to give me more dry storage space.
In my dry storage I have four freezers and so I need more storage space.. But the cooler is also at max capacity so just get me a new extra one. This won't happen this year but I can see it happening for next year..
Talked about my salad bar .. She doesn't like salad bars... But after our talk we have solutions that makes her a little more acceptable to ours..
She might come back this fall only for a check in..
Two hours - this is my longest time ever spent with a health inspector..
Secretly maybe she was trying to catch me..

So Sunday was an off day. I haven't any more of these for three weeks I think.. If I hear correct the next three weekends have bookings and this means I am working.
So on my last off day we / Noni and I made the most of it.
Church - a little hike at Brandywine Falls - a long stroll window shopping in Whistler and an enjoyable supper at the Keg on the third floor patio.
Even though it was only one day it felt like a whole weekend : yet not to busy to tire us out.

Thus ended the date with Noni.
No not yet - we stopped in to say hi to my Mom then it was time to go back to camp and spend time with the Dalhouise. I had to leave him home as I knew we would be going in and out of stores and eating out.. He was a happy pooch when we got home - you would think we left him for weeks or something...

day's end and now I can have a rest with the family

So on the BBQ I cooked hotdogs and beef burgers and some chicken. In the oven I baked vegi dogs and vegi burgers.
Salad bar had about 40 items on it. Such as toss salad, spinach salad, potato salad, pasta with tuna, pasta salad, couscous, bean salad and there was a few more. We had sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, - oh I can't remember all we had lots to choose from.
I also placed out some tomato soup, and navy bean soup and a insert of fried rice.

Like I said the owner is happy.. All the guess we're very satisfied.
Even before I began cooking I had people coming up to me. Marvelling at the aroma of charcoal whisping around the camp. People were surprised it was not gas but a real BBQ ..
My point exactly to the owner later.. I think he thought I could not BBQ for this many and long.. Two hours out there in the sun and waves of heat from the BBQ and the sun - I loved every moment .. And the food was a success too

Saddle sore, but feeling engergzed. Putting on my cool looking mirror sunglasses I hop onto my bike saddle and head out the gate. Construction.. Half the road is missing and the other half is cracked and pot holed. But it is sunny, and I have supper all prepared (lasagna) so I have time to go for a long bike ride. We - my wife and I drive the four miles to the single lane bridge, ah we keep going to the four mile / eight mile viewing spot along the river bank. Do I stop? No even though this is the furthest we have ever gone on this road. We keep going and going to we reach some houses... We come to the house with the huge yellow smiley face hanging on a tree. This is where cell overage ends when leaving town towards the camp.
At this point we turn around. I am not sure what way the wind is blowing. I thought we were facing it but as we return back home it still feels like we are facing it, it is becoming more difficult to make those peddles go round and round.. Are we going up hill? It looks flat and when driving the car I never notice a difference in engine sounds.
I now and then look up to admire the mountain being swallowed by a cloud - just majestic.
I notice the wild roses in bloom as I coast on past splattering the brush along side the road with pink blossoms - not to mention the wild berries that are still in flowering mode.
We are well past the construction zone and I only hear the wind in my ears and the chirping of birds. I must make time to to do this again, but not today as I seem to have sat a little too much on that tiny little seat.

Dalhouise is not a happy camper today.. But I don't care! It is for his own good even though he doesn't understand.
Ring - ring - ring.. Our neighbour phones us.. His dog was killed last night by a cougar. He is phoning to let us know to keep our dogs tied or in the house as this large cougar is hanging around the area - also we must be aware to make sure none of our campers are wandering alone either - safety...
anyways I pick up Dalhouise and carry him back inside the cabin. Later in the morning I go get him and fasten him to the chains I have. One of the staff replied that they have never seen him tied up before.. I replied. It happens now and then. I have one at the cabin entrance and one at the entrance to the dining tent, just for occasions like today. The one by e cabin does get used more often in the middle of the night if Dalhouise decides to wake me up to go outside because I don't want him eaten..
So now he is sitting with me on the swing tied.. I guess this OK .. He is happy to be sitting with me.. ** I am off now - it is the weekend.. Hurray

I don't understand why the May 24 weekend is a week before the 24th. I remember in my youth going to the cottage on this long weekend - this is opening season for most cottages and trailers and for planting the gardens.. Not now.. Middle of the month is just to early.. Cold rains, possiblity of snow still looms heavy.. I think the government should change it back to the May 24th. And keep it there.
I did have a good day yesterday. I walked around the Boundary trail, sat by the pond spotting some birds and relaxing, sat on the swing with my pooch Dalhouse, rode my bike to the beach with my wife, watched a movie on TV, had a nap and I let my wife cut my hair.
I think that covers everything ...
Now today... It is pouring rain right now.. Sounds pleasant as it hits the tin cabin roof, and pours off onto the ground. Looks nice too as I peek out the windows and see rain falling unto green tree leaves. I think today another restful, napping afternoon is in store for me. This morning we will drive into town to attend church - have a stop to visit my mother at the nursing home. That might be a little stressful.. Depending on her mood.

Good morning - kind of..
I had a stressful night worried about today's delivery. My lunch ingredients are on that truck.
The truck until last delivery has been arriving around 630 - 8 AM perfect timing. Last delivery truck arrived 12:30 just after guess sat down to eat lunch. I am to be dropped numbers 1- 5 to get here early - I was drop number 9.
What to do if it is late?
I can change menu from perogies to Mac and cheese... So we can feed the 115 people..
Supper is here.. Turkey dinner
Tomorrow's breakfast is here
Tomorrow's lunch I can impervise ..
So should I just refuse this order if it comes late and reorder everything for next Tuesday? .
Long weekend OFF ...???

Looks like a fun day!

I am so excited about my strawberry patch. I put it in last year and this year I should get some berries. My dad is my strawberry expert. When I was little we always had a successful patch, but where they live now, the soil isn't right. I am lucky that my soil is correct. I have lots of green berries, can't wait!

Taking a deep breath......

Yesterday I was off and it was sunny after having a week of rain and dark dreary days that reminded me of fall not spring.. Noni and I took a drive to Vancacover with our bikes attached to the bike rack so we could do some cycling around the Sewawall. I think a few other thousand people had the same idea. Yes it was a little crowded but there was lots of room to move about.

Seen some birds also

and some flowers

It was a good day.

Inspection is over...phew.... I have yet to see the final report, however she said she seen no major violations. That is good. We have a couple of things that need tweeting, nothing of real consequence. I need to buy a cooling wand to cool my soups and sauces quicker, a brighter light in the fridge, raise a shelf higher off the floor, and for me to buy more storage containers to keep mice from contaminating cake pans and slicer. I walked her around and described how we serve - she looked over my menu - I told her he two most high risk items I bring in are the turkeys and chicken and in doing so I told her how I thaw them and store in fridge.
Thinking about it - we actually are a safe kitchen, as Noni told her we eat here too so we are not going to do anything that would cause us not to want to enjoy our meals.

For lunch I served Chinease food - processed - sweet and sour pork, chicken In a sauce, spring rolls, fried rice, stir fried Vegetables (fresh) and a soup.

Supper I am serving beef ribs, chicken breasts, corn on cob, friend rice and home made buns and a salad

The sun is out, it is about 15c and I am relaxing finally.

This morning we went to the condo picked up our extra matteress with a another staff member then back to camp. Tonight we should sleep well with this matteress.
In the mean time I am going to sit outside with Dalhouise and watch the robins and hummingbirds.

Tomorrow the plan is to go to church, then go visit Mom and hopefully take her out for supper.
But right now I must be still, relax, and not think about what I am going to do next.

My week has ended.. Feeding 161 people- they sure ate a lot. We never got ahead of the on slaught of hungry campers. Our salad bar of over 30 choices was emptied every lunch - normally it last for the next day as well - and of course we make fresh every three days... But not this week they ate everything every lunch time. My soup was eaten every day as well and I made much more than normally required - which is a good thing and the home made bread gobbled down every supper with no left overs.. The quantity was good - these guess we're a little older than our normal and it was cold so this made people more hungry. Besides that they were very active outside all day doing camp things.
Noni and I are exhausted. My day began mostly around 650 and bed again between 2030 and 2130 hr hours. I also had to deal with the bad matteress as well... I was sucking back, back pain medicine, that took away the pain but made me drowsy. No afternoon breaks like I would normally take but straight 12 hours shifts or longer..
But the week is over now... I have the weekend off.. Well not all.. I need to do some work on Sunday to make sure we are ready for health inspection Monday morning.. A few little tweets need to be taken care of before I can feel comfortable facing this inspection.

If it does not rain I hope to bring our mattress from the condo to the cabin tomorrow ...

But for now I am off and can try to relax...

Ike's .... 161 guess are coming for supper, and staying for breakfast and lunch for the next five days. It is an international group of some kind - new to our camp.
As I look around we are looking pretty good - we are set to go..
Reality for my new dishwashing girls.. Now is the time to develop a routine and listen carefully to the procedures and systems I have been telling them about. It is so hard to teach during staff training as nothing is routine - we cleaned and cleaned the kitchen area / dishpitt area to get it serviceable .. But this afternoon the whys all come into place and hopefully they will understand.
Two very different girls.. One very clever on the ball - the other - well let's just say I think a few cards are missing out of the deck ....
Or is it that parents just failed to teach plain common sense... Can I help / teach this young lady?
Example - I reminder that she needs to fill the sugar container at the coffee station - white normal sugar.. She goes and fills the container with icing sugar...
There has been more of these little funnies with other simple common sense things ..
Oh well she is friendly and seemly happy right now..

Looks like you have been really busy. I hope no one got hurt in the explosion.

I have been preoccupied with my grandmother's surgery last week. We took turns having dinner at our houses so my husband could give her shots in the days leading up to it. She did very well and recovering at the hospital. It is 70 miles and my mom goes every day. I went yesterday. Saturday, I promised to help assist with the butterfly garden at the local state park, so my daughters and I spent the morning there. They were very helpful and everyone thought they were so cute planting flowers. They help me a lot so they know what to do. We went to the hospital yesterday and visited for a while. Back at work today.

Taking a deep breath......

Elk - a bear - a cougar...
All in one drive back to camp. We went to the library to hear and see a slide show about a person who leads biking tours around the the world - while there less than a mile away at the shipping terminals an explosion occurred. I heard the sirens but really didn't pay much attention as I was listening to the speaker - then the librarian entered the room and informed us of a explosion and fire... And we were to stay in.. So much for concentrating on the speaker now.. Concern about toxin in the air..

Camp days.. Well the dishwasher is up and running properly. The pot sink is in working order.
My two new dishwasher people seemly are doing well.
The kitchen sink has stopped leaking.. I think I plugged it with dirt when cleaning the ovens.
I did my first official meal last night - chicken cordon blue - wild rice - fresh asparagus with a cheese sauce. And for dessert chocolate chip banana cake. Later for snack we served cookies, a cheese tray, vegi tray.
My day began at 7:30 am and I went home at 8 pm and then... Spent two hours doing my food order on the computer. Longer than normal because most of the history from last year was wiped out and I had to search for things I wanted.
Today I called the rep to order the few things I could not find.. Deliver is tomorrow..

Bed .... You might not believe this but it is true.. I went to the kitchen .. We had a couple of extra metal shelving - so I brought them home to the cabin and lifted the matteress ... Placing between the box spring and matteress went the two metal shelves.
I find it a little hard .. Noni loves it. Our sore backs however seem to be fixed with this solution.

No heat in the lounge ... It is very cold in the evenings and morning for breakfast. Our heater I saw was loaded into the camp truck and taken to the city. Should be back in a few days. I am glad I stay in the kitchen.

Next week we have a new food inspector coming.. .. Inspection - a new inspector I wonder how strict she is going to be.. We are a pretty ruget establishment - I'll be ready as the best we can be...

Today surprised surprise - the plumber showed up, the heater guy showed up, the dishwasher Eco lab person showed up and our fridge / stove maintenance man showed up... You are thinking wonderful everything is now fixed and ready to go -- Right!
Wrong.. I can't believe it.. Nothing is working. Nothing is fixed. They all must come back with parts of this or that so things can work.
We have no heat in the lounge
We have no water to the pot sinks or to the main bathrooms
I only have use of two ovens
The dishwasher is not fully functional and none of our new chemical dispensers are working.
Tomorrow I cook the first official meal for the staff.. Staff training begins.
25 people for the week a week lateral have 161 arriving for the week ..
I sure hope everyone comes back to get us up and running soon.

Look what came in my mailbox this day. My lady friend from Ontario sent me a book "Life on Earth by David Attenborough". What I find interesting is that just last night I watched a documentary about said author.. Showing the history of film and wildlife photography from the beginning till now. But look at the envelope.. So many stamps. She had asked the post office to put as many on as possible..
Also I recieved a postcard from her that she bought 40 years ago and was tucked away In a old cookbook from Banff Alberta.
Then I have a postcard from Amsterdam from Mike?

Now my mailbox will have to wait till next Thursday before I can check it again. I think I will be pleasantly pleased when I get home and open it.

The bags are almost packed and zipped. This time tomorrow morning 1015 we will be in the air on our way to Mexico. With all the crashes these last 6 months my anxiety of flying has gone up a notch.. However I keep assuring my self - whether in life or death I will be with the Lord... But still I struggle with inner stress... But I really want to go to Mexico.
Dalhouise today wow...he really gave me a hard time as I tried to squirt his medicine in his mouth. Giving him his pills are easy just hide it in a treat, but the syringe is a different storey. Growling, squirming, running away the chase - the calming words and the trying all over again.. Finally I am able to get his mouth open enough to squirt -- done. Tomorrow good luck with the sitter giving hm his last dose. They asked me if it was hard or easy -'I said easy - it was honestly until this morning.. We talked about her two year old who hates the squirt and it is a struggle every day giving him his.. Tomorrow she will have to,deal with two babies... Good luck.
Dalhouse now see two, suitcases - we can't hide it any more - he knows..
- my stress about flying is over riding my stress about leaving him.. Gotta think about the beaches - the new adventures - the food ... Stop Watching the News

Not a lot of hking done today. walked around the park with Dalhouise. Walked to the plaza and back again pushing a little cart.. I had to go buy a new car battery. When I came back from our bike adventure in Surrey I accidentally left the dome light on and so the next day I had a very dead battery. I called the motor club and got a boost.. Dave around for an hour and let the car idle for about half an hour.. Turned it off and went to bed. Next day I go try to start the car it is a no go.. Battery is dead again. I had inklings that it was going before and I think this was the last straw with the dome light left on. Thus the walk to go buy a new battery.. Once I got the batter home the plumber was just about to leave from doing a job here on site.. ( do you remember my last month plumbing bills) well I asked him if he would help me change the battery as I don't have tools.. He agreed - nice guy...
The car works now and so we drove got some groceries and I bought a new hand held GPS.
Remember my GPS died when I tried to turn it on on the bike trip to Surrey. I need to have a GPS for Mexico in five days from now..
I didn't buy a better one - same brand and company as the one I had because it was on sale. Discontinued .. So I got it for 89 dollars.. Regular I see was 199.$. I just didn't want to spend so much money right now. Need it for our vacation and property taxes and ultiities tax coming due in the nex 60 days.
Hopefully it will work ok for a year or so..

Thank you..
Yesterday I walked Dalhouise in the morning around the pond for a hour.

Came home ate lunch and drove to Surrey/ Cloverdale area to bicycle 11 miles around the area waiting for our friends to get off work.

They invited us to join them for supper at the fish and chips restaurant. I thought the area was flat.. Boy I was wrong.. Up hill we peddled and down hill we flew over and over.

Luck was on our side... It didn't rain. We had slight winds and sunny conditions with overcast moments. We rode all around the place exploring dead end streets and nooks and crannies...
In the morning I loaded my GPS - I planned to geocache as we cycled. When I arrived and turned my device on - it did not. I changed the batteries - still nothing - it is dead. I have been having issues with it - having to keep hitting the reset button.. Now even that does not work.
So NO geocaching done today.. That almost changed my mood - but on top the hill looking over towards the route I was about to go I see a spot I exspect to see birds - I didn't see what I thought I would but I was hopeful and once I began riding that was enough happiness

Today I feel like I accomplished something .. Checking the bank account early I found to my delight that the income tax refund was in.. Hurray... So I was able to pay off the visa and put some money in our RRSP s for next year tax breaks and some into our savings... Then I went and did some banking for my mother at the bank and while I was there I put some money into one of my account to pay for my life insurance policy that is due in April. Next it was a stop at Service Canada to print out the application for my wife's permanent resident card that is due this year and then over to Walmart to get pictures for this application. Did a stop at the drug store to get a copy of Mom's prescriptions tax report receipt and then a drive to the accountants office so that Mom can get her taxes done. Earlier in the day I collectd all her receipts and papers. Now it is out of my hands - hers is more complicated than mine and so I did not want to make mistakes.
I walked Dalhouise to the post office where I mailed a couple of postcards and bought some stamps and postcards already stamped so that I can mail more. (Hint)

The rain has startd here.. It was nice while it lasted - sunny weather..
Last night out of character for Noni and I - we met with camp staff to eat out tougher. We met at an Indian restaurant. I have been wanting to check it out for a few years but Noni has always refused as she said she was not too fawn about this style of food.. Well finally we went. She ate her portions.. I ate my fill. I thonk I will take my mom here at some point in the not to far future. The price is average - it cost me fifty dollars for the two of us.. However I am not minding it so much as I did enjoy eating goat curry stew... Rice, Nana bread, lamb k bob, and chicken k bob, and noni had chicken curry. With that I washed it all down with chai tea made with milk.
Talking and listening to the camp younger staff... It was good .. I think we are going to start the year off on a good right foot.. We have a temporary new office girl too and hopefully this will help us start well together - as the office staff and I some times have these little major conflicts. It was a good time of fellowship - and I was able to make them laugh a coule of times by being just me.. I am a strange one at times - I am old enough to be their fathers.. Noni their mothers.

My body is still sore a day after the scrubbing of the kitchen. I cleaned everything including the ceilings, walls and all table surfaces and shelving.
The hardest part now is knowing I have to go back in and reclean it all before I actually start cooking and serving.
Dalhouise is away at the groomers.. I took him out for an early morning walk and then dropped him off. He was so sad and tried to dart out the door escaping from the hug of the groomer when I approached the door. Poor little guy.. He knows..
Now I am home and the house is so empty without him.. I miss him .. Crazy eh!

After dropping Dalhouse off I walked downtown Squamish to the secondhand flea market. I went in and asked if they had any postcards.. The man behind the counter said maybe and pulled out a bundle over four inches high. What I could see - the date of some postage stamps are 1926
I ask how much.. He was not sure.. We browsed through them and he said I could have them all for 25 dollars - I said I have a twenty .. He said OK and I walked out with a bundle of older postcards..
Not sure yet haven't done due dillgence ... But one quick view on Google is that one set is worth 15 dollars alone. And I have several.. So I may have lucked out big time... Regardless I am happy with my growing collection.

Going to work.. I havent said that in awhile. But tomorrow morning I must wake up and get ready to go to work. Over the winter the kitchen has grown a covering of mould to keep warm I guess. So before the fire inspector comes in, before the maintence man can come in and repair broken pipes, before the fridge maintence company comes in to do a cleaning -- I must come in and remove the mould..
Wonderful...
Today I went and bought a safety mask because I am going to wash the kitchen with bleach..
I have a solid day of scrubbing to do.. I am going to be so tired tomorrow night...

Hello.. I did a blog posting - but not everyone reads my blog..
I have started a hobby.... Collecting Postcards.
I would like to eventually have one from every State and Province.
I love getting snail mail and I am sure my postman would love delivering to my address..
So you get to encourage him and me... That sounds like a good thing to do..
Postcards with anything thing that you think is showing off your city... Or anything interesting to you..
My address
Marty Marquette
301 - 40100 Willow Crescent
Squamish BC
Canada
V8B 0L8

I look forward to checking my mail box and seeing some interesting cards... And if you include your return address I would gladly send one back.

Thank you so much

Time ... I had so much of it that it seemly stood still. Now the days are beginning to go faster and faster. Yes there is a bump in the race track.. My trip to Mexico can't come fast enough.
However last night I did my taxes for 2014 - been putting it off ... but last night I filed them.
Last week I had my eye appointment and this week picked up my new glasses.
Today I made the appointment at the garage to have my car receive it's semi annual maintence done and snow tires taken off. Next week Dalhouise will be going to the groomers.
Before the end of the month I need to take Mom to Vancouver....
Once work begins I won't have many opportunities during the day to get away from work. I need to cook breakfast, lunch, supper..
So as we put all our ducks in their row.... there are so many little things that need to be done before we move from thenCondo to the little cabin in the woods and Work.

What happened to yesterday? I don't know.. I did go,for a Dalhouise walk, I went to my appointment to the eye doctor for my annual four year check.. Yes I was scolded for that he wants to see me every two years. I went now because I know I needed new reading glasses..no choice. Then the day was gone..
Today I have plans to go to Vancouver .. I was asked by my employer to go pick up at the kitchen supply place the new sink and tables he ordered. My kitchen is getting a face lift.. Hurray! Since I want to get some new pots and other trinkets, I will gladly go especially since he is paying for the gas and items..
I will also stop in at one of the supper stores to buy some food for the men's breakfast I was asked to cook for. I have said no on a couple of occasions ... But the man who was going to do it made other plans and backed out after the church organized this function ... So in desperation they asked me to help -- what can I do? I said yes.. And so now I must shop and prepare this meal. Tomorrow about thirty men will be coming - that is not so bad - but the churches kitchen sucks... That makes it difficult to cook..
I have decided to cook and serve .. Oatmeal - bacon - sausage - hashbrowns - Eggs probably scrambled and pancakes. My wife will make cinnamon buns for me to bring later today.

I need to get ready - gotta go to camp to pick up the camp van as my car is too small for the new tables and sink.. I will bring Dalhouise with me so he can run a it before I bring him back home and pick up Noni. Then into the big city we go..
Have a good day everyone.

Spent several hours walking and sitting in Vancouver. Chinese New Year parade brought us to the big city and then we walked around afterwards looking and investigating different markets. Who needs to travel thousands of miles to get a taste of China when it is right in your backyard. On the other hand... This is only a taste of the real thing thousands of miles away - just wetting the appetite - a tease. Hmmmm I wonder if a future vacation to China should be in the making or not.

The rain is falling, I am drained of all energy and I am sitting comfortably in my cozy chair watching birds come and go at my feeders drinking a hot cup of coffee - life isn't so bad I was thinking to myself... Then along came Dalhouise....

emoticon Good Morning!
I had a terrific day yesterday. I cut away the dead evergreens that died this past winter...orange evergreens are dead Fred.
My rib didn't like me using emoticon the loppers...I guess. Planning to transplant a rhodo there and some shade loving plants: Lady's Mantle, wild ginger, etc.

I also picked up a 3 tiered bird bath fountain that I need to re-finish.
I am working on getting outside to enjoy a bit of every Summer Day we have. Last night was so clear for emoticon star gazing too! Have a great day today!

A lot has changed since May 18th..our first 70F day. Temps continue to vacillate. This morning it was 50F and appears this is where they will stay today.
rainy morning here...last night the air was so saturated looked like fog I thought we were having hail because the rain came down and was so heavy the raindrops looked like they were half dollar-size raindrops
Our Meteorologist Paul Douglas says this has been the wettest (Jan-May) on record for 144 years!
It is a great day to prep meals to serve when the sun and heat return.
It is a great day to make lists of things to be done.
It is a great day to organize an area that needs it.
It is a great day to read a book.
A wonderful day to visit the Conservatory or other indoor gardens,,,even garden centers!
Or even watching a video of gardens around the world.

Look who came to visit our yard today...Cuddles spied it from our French Doors and had to go out and take a look! Cuddles discovered a Blandings turtle in our yard this morning!
In other states they are endangered. They are protected in Michigan.

The last few days we have had so many birds visiting our yard or flying over it that include: lots of robins, mated cardinals, goldfinch, blue jay, bald eagle, herons, chickadee, song sparrow, cedar waxwings, heard a catbird or a mocking bird, a little blackbird don't know what it was, and the blue birds are nesting. We have more birds than the aviary around the lakes in Minneapolis! Anyone interested in birding should love Anoka County!

So far 2 dozen daffodils have bloomed plus all my forsythia bushes! Happy Mothers Day! emoticon

The leaves on the trees are the size of mouse ears!
My goals to complete this growing season:
working on getting new steps and landing made for kitchen door- our primary access to home with a gable roof overhang to protect the landing from snow & ice. Then a new driveway, aerating the lawns, bringing compost, horse manure and wood chips to the gardens, removing extra lilacs and old fashioned phlox and transplanting perennials and re-doing the daylily bed and the blue garden next to the deck.
Did you know that wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, and Queen honey bees can sting multiple times. It is only the worker honey bee that can only sting once because they have a barbed stinger that comes out as they sting and they die.
